a) if a > b

b) if a < b

c) if a≥ b

d) if a ≤b

e) if a = b or no relation can be established between ‘a’ and ‘b’.

6) I) √1225a +√4900 = 0

II) (81)1/4b + (343)1/3 = 0

7) I) 18/a2 +6/a – 12/a2 = 8/a2

II) b2+ 9.68 + 5.64 = 16.95

8) I) [(2)5 + (11)3] / 6 =a3

Answers :

1) Answer: C

Sukumar’s salary in 2016 = 600000-(600000*20/100)

=600000-(6000*20)

=600000-120000

=480000

Expenditure on education in 2015 =360000
Expenditure on education in 2016

=360000+360000(10/100)

=360000+36000

=396000

Therefore expenditure on education in 2016

= 396000/480000*100

= 82.5%

2) Answer: C

Probability that patiyala is not white = 4/5

Probability that top is not white =  5/6

Required probability = Probability that patiyala is not white * Probability that top is not white

=4/5*5/6

=4/6

=2/3

3) Answer: A

Let the fixed amount be Rs, x and

The cost of each calls be y. then

1080 y + x =3600   ———–>1

1240 y +x = 4080   ———->2

Subtracting 2 in 1

160y = 480

Y=480/160 = 3

Putting y = 3 in 1 we get

X = 3600 – 1080(3)

=3600-3240

=360

Fixed charge =Rs.360 charge per unit = Rs.3

Total charges for consuming 1000 calls = Rs (360+(1000*3)

=Rs (360+3000)

=Rs.3360

4) Answer: B

Number of attempted correctly = (60% of 15 + 70% of 30 + 50% of 20)

= (60/100*15)+(70/100 *30)+(50/100*20)

=9+21+10

=40

Questions to be answered correctly fpr 80% grade = 80% of 65

= 80/100 *65

=52

Required number of questions = (52 – 40)

=12

5) Answer: D

Let amount invested by venu = x

Amount invested by Banu = x+3750

Amount invested by Renu = x+5250

Now, ( x+ x+3750 x+5250) *9/100 =2430

3x +9000 = 2430 * 100/9

3x = 27000 -9000

x=18000/3

x=6000

hence amount invested by Banu = 6000+3750

= Rs 9750

Directions (6-10) :

6) Answer: A

I) √1225a + √4900 = 0

or, 35a + 70 = 0 or, a =-70/35 = -2

II) 3b + 7 = 0 or b = (-7/3)

:. a > b

7) Answer: E

I) (18 +6a- 12)/a2= 8/a2

or, a =1/3 = 0.33

II) b2= 16.95 – 9.68 – 5.64 = 1.63

b = ±1.277

8) Answer: A

I) a3= (32 + 1331)/6 =1363/6

a = 6.1

II) 5b3– 4b3= 589/4

or b3 = 589/4

b = 5.2

a > b

9) Answer: C

I) 2a2– 11a + 12 = 0

or, a = 4,3/2

II) 4b2– 8b + 3 = 0

B=3/2, 1/2

a ≥ b

10) Answer: D

I) a(7/5)÷9 = 169÷a(3/5)

a(7/5) ×a(3/5) = 169×9

a2 = 1521

a = ± 39

II) b(1/4)×b(1/4)×b(1/2)= 273/7

or, b[(1/4)+(1/4)+1/2)] = 39

or, b = 39

a ≤ b
