Each year on 12 June, the World Day against child labor brings together governments, employers and workers organizations, civil society, as well as millions of people from around the world to highlight the plight of child laborers and what can be done to help them.

The International Labour Organization (ILO) launched the World Day Against Child Labour in 2002 to focus attention on the global extent of child labor and the action and efforts needed to eliminate it. 2022 Theme: “Universal Social Protection to End Child Labour”

At an event held at AICTE Auditorium, IDS unveiled the Bharat Blockchain Consortium (Academic Blockchain Consortium) & Polyversity (Educational Metaverse) in June 2022. The initiative was held in the presence of Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister for Education and Skill and Entrepreneurship, the Governor of India, and AICTE officials.

The initiative is intended to bring together the Bharat Blockchain IDS is partnered with 100+ academic partners to create India’s largest educational metaverse, with over 100 Academic Partners creating virtual campuses to make learning more accessible, immersive, and meaningful.

The Centre hiked the minimum support price for Kharif crops by 4-9 percent for the 2022-23 crop year, with paddy MSP being raised by Rs 100 to Rs 2,040 per quintal, a move aimed at encouraging farmers to bring more area under cultivation and boost their income.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the increase in MSPs for all 14 Kharif (summer) crops for the 2022-23 crop year.

Ecuador, Japan, Malta, Mozambique, and Switzerland were elected to the UN Security Council as non-permanent members for the 2023-2024 term and will replace India, Ireland, Kenya, Mexico, and Norway. The 193-member UN General Assembly held elections to elect the five non-permanent members for the two-year term 2023-24.

On the issue of “categories of membership”, the G4 nations of Brazil, Germany, India, and Japan have said that only when the permanent seats are expanded, can the decisions of the Council reflect the interests of the broader membership.

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha rolled out an accidental insurance cover of Rs 15 lakh for government employees in the union territory.

Sinha also launched the bank’s ‘Phone Pe Loan’ facility for government employees. The free group personal insurance cover is extended to all permanent employees, in addition to the offers that they are entitled to under an agreement between the bank and the Jammu and Kashmir government.

Fino Payments Bank has partnered with Go Digit General Insurance Limited, one of India’s fastest-growing general insurers, to offer shop insurance policies to small and medium business owners.

 The tie-up will allow small and medium businesses to avail of the benefits of Digit’s My Business Policy and will be valid for one year, will cover loss or damage to the inventory or stock due to burglary, earthquake, fire, lightning, storm, flood, riots, among others. The policy will also include in-built coverages like money in safe, money in transit, etc.

ICICI Bank has partnered with digital EMI/pay-later platform ZestMoney, to expand its ‘Cardless EMI’ facility for purchases on retail and e-commerce platforms by offering pre-approved cardless credit to instantly buy products/ services by paying in equated monthly installments (EMIs).

Customers can convert transactions up to ₹10 lakh into EMIs by entering their registered mobile number, PAN, and OTP (received on registered mobile number) at the check-out of the e-commerce website/app or the PoS machine in retail outlets, without using cards.

Electric two-wheeler manufacturer Ather Energy has partnered with the State Bank of India to provide customers with vehicle financing. SBI will offer the vehicle loans on their YONO mobile application as well as at their branch network, as the public sector lender ensures ease of adoption for the buyers.

As part of the association, Ather Energy customers will get instant loans at interest rates as low as 9.55 percent per annum. Pre-approved loans will also be administered, depending on the buyer’s creditworthiness.

The Reserve Bank has canceled the license of The Mudhol Co-operative Bank Limited, Bagalkot (Karnataka), thus restricting it from repayment of deposits and acceptance of fresh funds. This is done under Section 5(b) 56 of the banking regulation act,1949, with immediate effect.

As per the data submitted by the bank, RBI said more than 99 percent of the depositors are entitled to receive the full amount of their deposits from the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC).On liquidation, every depositor would be entitled

The Reserve Bank of India has canceled the certificate of registration (CoR) of three NBFCs, including two housing finance companies. Housing finance companies whose registrations have been canceled are — Aizawl-based North East Region Housing Finance Company Limited and Gurgaon-based Aryarth Housing Finance Limited.

NBFCs that surrendered the CoR granted to them by the RBI are — Ernakulam-based Empower India Capital Investments Private Limited and Kolkata-based Mangalmayee Garments Private Limited (presently known as Abhijeet Ferrotech Limited). CoR of Noida-based Malik Motor Finance Limited has been canceled.

Senior Indian diplomat Amandeep Singh Gill has been appointed by United Nations Secretary-General as his Envoy on Technology, with the world body describing him as a “thought leader on digital technology”.

Scientists have created a new high-resolution map of the moon using data from China’s recent lunar missions. The detailed map was created using data primarily from China’s Lunar Exploration Program collected over the past 15 years and was supplemented by high-quality data from international exploration missions from the U.S., Japan, and India.

It reveals geologic layers, structural features, and a chronology of the moon’s surface, and includes 12,341 impact craters, 81 impact basins, 17 rock types, and 14 types of structures.

India jumped one position to 7th among the top recipients of foreign direct investment (FDI) in the last calendar year (2021) despite FDI inflows into the country declining, according to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

UNCTAD said FDI inflows into India declined to $45 billion in 2021 from $64 billion in the preceding year. While the United States ($367 billion) remained the top recipient of FDI, China ($181 billion) and Hong Kong ($141 billion) also retained second and third positions respectively.

The World Health Organization has given the Regional Director Special Recognition Award to the Resource Centre for Tobacco Control (e-RCTC) of the Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh. 

The Resource Center for Tobacco Control was established in 2018 by 25 organizations focusing on tobacco control in India as a joint project of the PGIMER and the UNION-SEA to showcase tobacco control initiatives.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin unveiled the official logo and mascot of the 44th Chess Olympiad will take place from July 28 to August 10 in Mamallapuram, Chennai. It is believed that the competition has already received a record 343 teams in the open and women’s sections from 187 countries.

The mascot ‘Thambi’ is a knight dressed in the traditional Tamil attire veshti (Dhoti) with a shirt and is seen with folded hands, apparently extending the Tamil greeting ‘Vanakkam’. The words “Chess Believe” are seen on its shirt.
