August 4 is celebrated as Coast Guard Day every year in the US. The day is especially important for active duty and reserve Coast Guard forces as well as the civilian employees, retirees, auxiliaries, and dependents associated with the force.

the Coast Guard also acts as a first responder and humanitarian organization that aids those who are in need or affected by natural or man-made disasters. Members of the US Coast Guard perform a surprisingly wide range of duties that are essential to maintaining the safety of US waterways.

Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu along with Union ministers Pralhad Joshi and Piyush Goyal flagged off Tiranga Bike Rally for MPs from Red Fort in Delhi. Many Union Ministers, MPs, and leaders of different parties have participated in this campaign.

‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign into a mass movement by hoisting or displaying the national flag at their homes and using the ‘Tiranga’ as a display picture on their social media accounts between August 2 and August 15 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of India’s Independence.

Canadian scholar Jeffrey Armstrong has been awarded the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) Distinguished Indologist for 2021. He

was presented the award in a ceremony by Manish, India’s consul-general in Vancouver.

The annual award was instituted in 2015 during the First World Indology Conference hosted by the then President of India bringing prominent Indologists from the world over to a single platform with Indian scholars to deliberate upon the scope of promoting Indian studies abroad. The award comprises a citation, a gold-plated medallion, and US$ 20,000 (approximately ₹1.6 million).

Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri inaugurated the fourth ONGC Para Games in Thyagaraj Sports Complex in New Delhi. 275 Persons with Disabilities (PwD)  employees of eight central oil and gas public enterprises are participating in the 4th ONGC Para Games, being organized by Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) during 2-4 August 2022.

ONGC organizes the Para Games in an international format from its very first edition in 2017 with the help of the Paralympic Committee of India, where 120 ONGC PwD employees participated in games like athletics, and badminton, table tennis, and a wheelchair race.

SIDBI announced a partnership, through an agreement, with Mumbai-headquartered urban co-operative bank SVC Co-operative Bank to extend refinance facility to facilitate improved credit flow to MSMEs. The agreement was signed by Ashish Singhal, MD, SVC Bank, and Sanjeev Gupta, GM, SIDBI in Mumbai.

The partnership signed will allow SVC Bank to tap into SIDBI’s refinance facility. IDBI provides refinance to primary lending institutions such as banks including small finance banks, non-banking finance companies, and microfinance institutions which in turn provide credit to MSMEs.

The 2,500 crore-rights issues of PNB Housing Finance, a subsidiary of the state-owned Punjab National Bank, are anticipated to be finalized by December.

RBI has approved an infusion of 500 crores in PNB Housing Finance. In the post rights issue, the holding of the bank would come down below 30 percent but would be higher than 26 percent so that bank retains promoter status. The bank aims to reduce its gross non-performing assets (NPAs) to a single digit and its net NPAs to 3.5%.

The Indian government will be raising 33,000 crores through the sale of bonds. RBI will be handling the auction. Four government securities (G-secs) having rates from 6.54% to 7.10% will be auctioned through multiple price-based methods on RBI’s Core Banking Solution (E-Kuber) system.

According to RBI, the underwriting auction will be conducted through multiple price-based methods on August 05, 2022. The underwriting commission will be credited to the current account of the respective PDs with RBI on the date of the issue of securities.

Infosys Finacle, which is part of EdgeVerve Systems and a subsidiary of the IT services firm has been inducted into the International Financial Services Centres Authority’s (IFSCA) regulatory framework to pilot its blockchain-based trade finance solution.

The collaboration will test the blockchain-based Buyers Credit solution, for short-term credit in foreign currency, import payments, and trade finance transactions. The solution will later be available as a SaaS-based offering for all banks servicing clients from GIFT City in Gujarat.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday launched ‘Mission Bhumiputra’, a digital way to issue digitalized caste certificates to students. The Chief Minister inaugurated a Bhumiputra Portal at a program held at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra.

The Deputy Commissioners will give the format of applications for the caste certificates to the Headmasters of educational institutions. The DC then will convene a meeting with the Boards to decide on the protocol for issuing caste certificates to the students The certificates will be available in the Digi locker under the IT Act and digitally signed by the respective Deputy Commissioners.

The West Bengal Cabinet approved the setting up of seven new districts in the state, taking the total number of districts to 30, up from the existing 23. Announcing the Cabinet decision, the Chief Minister said the seven districts will be carved out of five existing districts Murshidabad, Nadia, South and North 24 Parganas, and Bankura.

Ranaghat, a city, and municipality in Nadia district will become the fourth new district; a new district of Bishnupur will be carved out of the existing Bankura district, and two new districts of Baharampur and Kandi will be created out of Murshidabad district.

The reliable doubles combination of Harmeet and G. Sathiyan got India off to an ideal start, with a 3-0 win against Koen Pang and Izaac Quek. With this, the India team defended their title as it had also won the gold in 2018 at Gold Coast CWG with a 3-1 win over Nigeria in the final.

Kidambi Srikanth went down 19-21 against Malaysia’s Ng Tze Yong in the opening game. Malaysian player kept his pace and momentum to register a brilliant win over Indian ace by 21-19, 6-21, 21-16 in a match that lasted for one hour and six minutes. Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand went against Muralitharan Thinaah and Koong Le Pearly Tan. Indian pair lost the first game 18-21.

Indian lawn bowls women’s fours team created history by defeating South Africa 17-10 in the final of the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. The four-woman squad comprising Lovely Choubey, Pinki, Nayanmoni Saikia, and Rupa Rani edged their South African counterparts.

India started the match aggressively leading South Africa 7-2 after the first six ends. The team which manages to get the bowls closer to the target (a smaller ball), also called ‘the Jack’, earns points. In the format of the four, each team is given eight rolls from one end.
