India’s first intranasal Covid vaccine iNCOVACC by Bharat Biotech  International Limited received DCGI approval for primary immunization against the infection for people above the age of 18.

The iNCOVACC is a recombinant replication-deficient adenovirus vectored vaccine with a pre-fusion stabilized spike protein. This vaccine has been specifically formulated to allow intranasal delivery through nasal drops. The nasal delivery system has been designed and developed to be cost-effective in low and middle-income countries.

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Army have completed six flight tests of the Quick Reaction Surface to Air Missile (QRSAM) system from Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur, off the Odisha coast.

QRSAM is a short-range Surface Air Missile (SAM) system, primarily designed and developed by the DRDO to provide a protective shield to the moving armored columns of the Army from aerial attacks. The six flight tests were carried out against high-speed aerial targets mimicking various types of threats to evaluate the capability of the weapon systems under different scenarios.

Senior diplomat Sanjay Kumar Verma has been appointed as India’s next high commissioner to Canada, while Amit Kumar, currently Consulate General of India in Chicago, has been named the next ambassador to the Republic of Korea.

Verma is a 1988 batch officer of the Indian Foreign Service and is currently the ambassador of India to Japan. Verma has served in Indian missions in Hong Kong, China, Vietnam, and Turkey. He has also served as Consul General of India in Milan, Italy.

HDFC Bank unveiled its state-of-the-art ‘Bank on Wheels’ service, for the state of Gujarat. Within this service, the Rural Banking segment of the bank has introduced ‘Bank on Wheels’ vans which will visit remote villages located 10 – 25 km from the nearest branch, to further accessibility.

This initiative is part of a pilot project to offer banking services in unbanked locations, around Ankleshwar. This van is part of the pilot project and more such vans are planned to be rolled out in various states. There is an enormous opportunity to serve people living in semi-urban and rural areas.

India’s National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS) and the UK Government in collaboration with BAE Systems (British Aerospace) successfully designed & conducted the ‘Cyber Security Exercise’ for 26 countries. The virtual Cyber Exercise on Ransomware Resilience was aimed at simulating a large, widespread cyber security incident affecting organizations within a country.

The exercise was carried out as part of the International Counter Ransomware Initiative- Resilience Working Group which is being led by India under the leadership of the National Cyber Security Coordinator (NCSC). The exercise explores the complexity of decision-making around response to ransomware on Critical National Infrastructure.

Olympic champion javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra scripted yet another historic feat as he became the first Indian to clinch a Diamond League Meet title in Lausanne, Switzerland.

The 24-year-old Chopra, who had pulled out of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games due to a “minor” groin injury he had suffered while winning silver during the World Championships last month, hurled the spear to 89.08m in his first attempt to seal the win in style. Tokyo Olympics silver medallist Jakub Vadlejch finished second with a best throw of 85.88m while Curtis Thompson of the USA was third with a best effort of 83.72m.

Gautam Adani, Asia’s richest man, will develop three Giga plants to manufacture solar panels, wind turbines, and hydrogen electrolyzers as part of a USD 70 billion investment in sustainable energy by 2030.

The new Giga factory for power electronics will be in addition to four Giga factories announced last year for making integrated solar PV modules that will produce electricity from sunlight, electrolyzers that produce hydrogen from water, fuel cells and batteries to store energy from the grid as well as 20 GW solar energy capacity by 2025 for captive needs.

The Union Cabinet approved a policy for long-term leasing of railway land for the PM Gati Shakti program, which the government said will help set up 300 cargo terminals and generate 1.25 lakh jobs. The new policy will help provide a land lease for a longer period of up to 35 years as against five years at present.

The new policy will enable the integrated development of infrastructure and more cargo terminals. It has also cut down land lease fees from 6 percent to 1.5 percent. The new policy will help in attracting more cargo to railways, and increase railways’ modal share in freight transportation thereby reducing the cost of logistics of the industry and thus generating more revenue.

DRDO also confirmed the trials of the Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS) being successfully conducted at Pokhran Field Firing Range ATAGS is a fully indigenous towed artillery gun system project undertaken in mission mode by DRDO as a part of the artillery modernization program of the Indian Army.

This will help in meeting the target of production of 5 million tonnes of Green hydrogen by 2030 and the related development of renewable energy capacity.

The development is also related to the universal miniaturized core sensor designs for leak detection and/ or analysis of hydrogen. The patented hydrogen gas sensor and analyzer are based on a core sensor; which has been conceptualized, developed, manufactured, and serviced entirely in India.
