1). Cursory (Adjective)

Definition: hasty and therefore not thorough or detailed.

Synonyms:  perfunctory, desultory, casual, superficial, token, uninterested, half-hearted, inattentive, unthinking

Antonyms: thorough, painstaking

Usage: a cursory glance at the figures

 

2).Ad  Valorem (Adjective)

Definition: (of the levying o f tax or customs duties) in proportion to the estimated value of the goods or transaction concerned.

Usage: ad valorem stamp duty at the rate of 1 per cent is payable

 

3). Anomaly (Noun)

Definition: something that deviates from what is standard, normal, or expected.

Synonyms: oddity, peculiarity, abnormality, irregularity, inconsistency, incongruity, deviation, aberration

Antonyms: usual, conformity, regularity.

Usage: there are a number of anomalies in the present system

 

4). Embolden (Verb)

Definition: give (someone) the courage or confidence to do something.

Synonyms: give courage, make brave/braver, encourage, hearten, strengthen, fortify, stiffen the resolve of, lift the morale of

Antonyms: dishearten, discourage

Usage: emboldened by the claret, he pressed his knee against hers

 

5). Paucity (Noun)

Definition: the presence of something in only small or insufficient quantities or amounts.

Synonyms: absence, deficiency, insufficient.

Antonyms: abundance, enough, plenty.

Usage: a paucity of information

 

6). Rampant (Adjective)

Definition: (especially of something unwelcome) flourishing or spreading unchecked.

Synonyms: uncontrolled, unrestrained, unchecked, unbridled, widespread, pandemic, epidemic, pervasive

Antonyms: mild, controlled, under control.

Usage: political violence was rampant

 

7). Lethal (Adjective)

Definition: very harmful or destructive.

Synonyms: fatal, deadly, mortal, causing death, death-dealing, life-threatening, murderous, homicidal

Antonyms: harmless, safe

Usage: the Krakatoa eruption was the most lethal on record

 

8). Chunk (Noun)

Definition: a thick, solid piece of something.

Synonyms: lump, hunk, wedge, block, slab, square, nugget, nub, brick, cube, bar,

cake, loaf

Antonyms: whole, full.

Usage: huge chunks of masonry littered the street

 

9). Loopholes (Noun)

Definition: an ambiguity or inadequacy in the law or a set of rules.

Synonyms:  means of evasion/avoidance, means of escape, escape clause, escape route

Antonyms: be captured, be imprisoned

Usage: they exploited tax loopholes

 

10). Purview (Noun)

Definition: range of experience or thought.

Synonyms: attitude, apprehension, attention.

Antonyms: ignorance, misconception, mistake.
