- India and China have signed the protocol for exports of Indian tobacco leaves to China
- The protocol was signed during the recent visit of Commerce Secretary, Dr. Anup Wadhawan to Beijing
- Wadhawan also had bilateral meeting with Vice Minister of General Administration of China Customs, Zhang Jiwen for examining market access and quarantine issues for India’s agriculture and allied products

National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) to organize the first edition of Night at the Museum
- National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA), New Delhi organized the first edition of Night at the Museum
- The event organised in collaboration with the India Art Fair from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM
- Highlight objects include works of art of Rabindranath Tagore, Amrita Sher-Gil, Raja Ravi Verma, Nandalal Bose and Jamini Roy
- NGMA aims to conduct Night at the Museum as a regular activity and will organise it on the last working day of every month
ICAR launched National Agricultural Higher Education Project (NAHEP)
- Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) launched National Agricultural Higher Education Project (NAHEP) to attract talent and strengthen higher agricultural education in the country
- It is inaugurated at the fourth Convention of 2-day “Agrivision-2019” organized by Vidyarthi Kalyan Nyas in Pusa, New Delhi
- ICAR has launched Rs 1100 crore ambitious National Agricultural Higher Education Project (NAHEP), this project will be funded by the World Bank and the Indian Government on a 50:50 basis. In addition, a four year degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, Fisheries and Forestry has been declared a professional degree
- Rajendra Agriculture University has been upgraded as Dr. Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University to strengthen the government’s effort to bring green revolution in Eastern India including North East
- Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) has been set up in Barhi, Jharkhand on the lines of IARI, Pusa New Delhi, and another IARI is being set up in Assam
- To promote the participation of students in agricultural business, Student READY (Rural Entrepreneurship Awareness Development Yojana) scheme is being run, under which practical experience of agriculture and entrepreneurship is provided to undergraduate students

Government renamed DIPP as Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade
- The Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) has been renamed as the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade with a mandate to deal with matters related to start-ups, facilitating ease of doing business among others
- The newly named department under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry will look into matters related to promotion of internal trade, including retail trade, welfare of traders and their employees
- The President gave his nod to bring internal trade matters under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade

- Last year, Krishna Kumari Kohli, a Hindu woman became the first non Muslim female to win a women reserved seat in Senate of Pakistan

UAE and Saudi central banks launch common digital currency called ‘Aber’
- The central banks of the UAE and Saudi Arabia have launched a common digital currency called “Aber” which will be used in financial settlements between the two countries through Blockchains and Distributed Ledgers technologies
- The UAE central bank will establish an additional means for the central financial transfer systems of the two countries and enable banks to directly deal with each other in conducting financial remittances
- The use of the currency will be restricted to a limited number of banks in each state

Uttar Pradesh government approved construction of Ganga expressway to connect Prayagraj with western UP
- Uttar Pradesh state cabinet approved construction of a four lane Ganga Expressway connecting Prayagraj to Western Utter Pradesh which would cost about 36,000 crore rupees
- Ganga Expressway will be 600 kilometres long and can be expanded to six-lane in future
- New Ganga Expressway will be the longest expressway in the world
- The state cabinet also gave approval to 291 kilometres long Bundelkhand Expressway will be constructed at a cost of 8864 crore rupees

Reserve Bank of India to inject Rs 37,500 crore through OMO in February
- Reserve Bank of India will inject Rs 37,500 crore into the system through purchase of government securities in February to increase liquidity
- RBI has been decided to conduct purchase of government securities under Open Market Operations (OMOs) for an aggregate amount of Rs 375 billion in the month of February 2019 through three auctions of Rs 125 billion each during the 2nd, 3rd and 4th week
- There will be no auction during the first week due to the scheduled Monetary Policy Committee meeting

State Bank of India set to own 15% in Jet Airways
- India’s largest lender State Bank of India (SBI) is set to swap part of its loans into a stake of at least 15 per cent in Jet Airways
- The airline’s founder and chairman Naresh Goyal stake cut to below 20 per cent from 51 per cent
- Etihad Airways PJSC, the foreign partner with a 24 per cent stake, is expected to infuse additional funds to take its holding to more than 40 per cent

- Vice Admiral G Ashok Kumar, VSM assumed charge as the new Vice Chief of Navy Staff (VCNS)
- The ceremony took place at South Block lawns at Rashtrapati Bhavan in the national capital
- G Ashok Kumar held the charge as the Deputy Chief of Naval Staff from June 6, 2016, he was commissioned into the Executive Branch of the Indian Navy on 01 Jul 1982
- After having completed his specialisation in Navigation and Direction at Kochi in 1989, he served as the Navigating Officer of Indian Naval Ships Beas, Nilgiri, Ranvir and Vikrant
- His other sea tenures include Commanding Officer of INS Kulish and Ranvir, and Executive Officer onboard INS Brahmaputra

Global Corruption Index: India 78th Rank
- According to the annual index by global watchdog Transparency International
- India has improved its ranking on a global corruption index in 2018 by three points and moved to 78th position with a score of 41
- In the list of 180 countries, China and Pakistan lagged far behind at 87th and 117th position, respectively
- Denmark is the least corrupt country followed by New Zealand
- Somalia, Syria and South Sudan are the most corrupt countries in the world

73 year old Frenchman wins solo round the world sailing race
- Frenchman Jean-Luc van den Heede won the round-the-world Golden Globe race without the help of modern technology after 211 days at sea
- Jean-Luc Van Den Heede arrived Les Sables d’Olonne in western France in his 35 foot yacht Matmut, the first boat to finish the 30,000 mile Golden Globe race.
