1) Dissent (Noun) – मतभेद या असहमति

Definition: The holding or expression of opinions at variance with those commonly or officially held.

Synonyms: Disagreement, Argument, Dispute, Demur

Antonyms: Agreement, Acceptance

Usage: This essay is a piece of dissent at a time when dissent may not be welcome.

 

2) Unison (Noun) – एकसाथ

Definition: The state of being of one opinion about something.

Synonyms: Accord, Agreement, Concurrence, Concurrency

Antonyms: Discord, Dissension

Usage: Newspapers have in unison supported the government, and citizens, from actors to cricketers.

 

3) Bully (Noun) — धौंसिया

Definition: A person who habitually seeks to harm or intimidate those whom they perceive as vulnerable.

Synonyms: Persecutor, Oppressor, Tyrant, Tormentor

Usage: He smiled sadly and said, “Churchill was a bully.

 

4)  Paranoid (Adjective) – व्यामोहक

Definition: Unreasonably or obsessively anxious, suspicious, or mistrustful.

Synonyms: Over-suspicious, Paranoiac, Suspicious, Mistrustful

Usage: People take loyalty literally and become paranoid.

 

5) Surreal (Adjective) – असली

Definition: Having the qualities of surrealism; bizarre.

Synonyms: unreal, Bizarre, Unusual, Weird

Antonyms: Commonsense, Sane, Sensible, Sober

Usage: There is a sense of solidarity with the ruling regime which is surreal.

 

6) Untarnished (Adjective) — निष्कलंक

Definition: Not spoiled or damaged.

Synonyms: Unsullied, Unblemished, and Untainted

Antonyms: Tarnished

Usage: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was encrusted with doubts a week before, appears like an untarnished hero.

 

7) Cynicism (Noun) — कुटिलता

Definition: An inclination to believe that people are motivated purely by self-interest; scepticism.

Synonyms: Scepticism, Doubt, Distrust, Mistrust

Antonyms: Optimism

Usage: Even the cynicism around these attitudes is ignored.

 

8) Aghast (Adjective) — भौचक्का

Definition: Filled with fear or dread

Synonyms: Affrighted, Afraid, Alarmed, Fearful

Antonyms: Adventuresome, Adventurous, Audacious

Usage:  One watches aghast as India turns war into a feud, indifferent to a wider conflagration.

 

9) Hysterical (Adjective) – उन्माद

Definition: Affected by or deriving from wildly uncontrolled emotion.

Synonyms: Overwrought, Emotional, Uncontrolled, and Uncontrollable

Antonyms: Calm, Self – possessed

Usage: The whole country lives from event to event and TV becomes hysterical, not knowing the difference between war and cricket.

 

10) Brutality (Noun) — पाशवता

Definition: Savage physical violence; great cruelty.

Synonyms: Savagery, Cruelty

Antonyms: Gentleness, Kindness

Usage: We can talk with ease about Pakistani belligerency, about militarism in Pakistan, but we refuse to reflect on our own brutality in Kashmir or Manipur.
