Answers :

1) Answer: C

Let the present age of Subash be x. Let the present age of Dinesh be y. Let the present age of Naveena be z.

By given data, Five years ago

(x – 5)/(y – 5) = 2/3;

3x – 15 = 2y – 10;

2y = 3x – 5 —- (1)

Five years hence,

(y + 5)/(z + 5) = 8/9

9y + 45 = 8z + 40

8z – 9y = 5 —- (2)

z – x = 15; z = x + 15 — (3)

Substitute (1) and (3) in (2)

8(x + 15) – (9/2) * (3x – 5) = 5;

8x + 120 – (27x/2) + (45/2) = 5

(11x/2) = 275/2

x = 25 years

y = 35 years

2) Answer: A

Let Richa’s present age be ‘x’ years

And Rahul’s present age be ‘y’ years

Now, (x – 4)/2/4(y – 4) = ½

(x – 4)/8(y – 4) = ½

2x – 8 = 8y – 32

2x – 8y = -24 — (1)

And, (y + 6) – 1/3(x + 6) = 3

 = >3y + 18 – x – 6 = 9

x – 3y = 3 —– (2)

Now, from equation I and II

y = 15 and x = 48

Therefore, Rahul’s present age = 15 years

3) Answer: C

A = 4x

B = x

C = 120/100 * (4x + x/2) = 3x

4x – 3x = 12

x = 12

A’s age = 4 * 12 = 48 years

B’s age = 12 years

C’s age = 3 * 12 = 36 years

Average = (48 + 36 + 12)/3 = 32 years

4) Answer: B

[(5x – 4x) + (7y – 6y)]/2 = 8.5

x + y = 17——-(1)

6y – 5x = 14 —-(2)

(2) + (1) * 5

11y = 99

y = 9 years

x = 8 years

B = 8 * 4 = 32 years

5) Answer: B

(16x + 8)/(x + 8) = 6/1

6x + 48 = 16x + 8

10x = 40

x = 4

B’s age = 8 * 4 = 32 years

B * D = 640

D = 20 years

E = 20 + 16 = 36 years

C’s age = 4 years

Average = (36 + 4)/2 = 20 years

6) Answer: E

Let x and y be the present ages of Arul and Arun respectively.

(x – 5)/(y – 5) = 5/4

4x – 20 = 5y – 25

5y – 4x = 5 ——- (1)

y + 7 = (4/3) * (x – 6)

3y + 21 = 4x – 24

4x – 3y = 45 ——- (2)

Adding two equations, 2y = 50; y = 25

So Hari age = 10 + 25 = 35

7) Answer: C

A – S = 4

A/F = ½

2A = F

(M + 12)/(S + 12) = 7/4

7S + 84 = 4M + 48

4M – 7S = 36

4M – 7(A – 4) = 36

4M – 7A + 28 = 36

4M – 7A = 8 ————(1)

(F – A)/(M – A) = 6/5

6M – 6A = 5F – 5A

6M – 5F = A

6M – 5(2A) = A

6M – 11A = 0 ————–(2)

(1) * 6 – (2) * 4

A = 24 years

F = 2 * 24 = 48 years

8) Answer: A

(A + 2)/(B + 2) = 4/5

4B + 8 = 5A + 10

4B – 5A = 2 —– (1)

A – 2/C – 2 = 4/5

4C – 8 = 5A – 10

5A – 4C = 2 ——— (2)

B + C = 65——– (3)

From (2) and (3)

(3) * 4 + (2)

5A + 4B = 262 ———- (4)

(4) + (1)

8B = 264

B = 33

C = 65 – 33 = 32

5A = 262 – 4 * 33

A = 26

Sum of A, B and C = 26 + 33 + 32 = 91

9) Answer: B

(A +8)/B = 3/5

B =25/100* (C +15)

(D+4)*12.5/100= (A +4)

5 A +40 = 3B

B =(5A +40)/3

B = 25/100 * (C +15)

(5A + 40)/3 = 1/4* (C+15)

20A +160 = 3C+45

(20A +115) = 3C

C = (20A + 115)/3

(D+4) *12.5/100 = (A +4)

(D +4)*1/8 = (A +4)

D +4 = 8A +32

D = 8A + 28

Total age of all four together after one year

(A +1)+ (C +1)+ (B +1)+ (D +1) = 101

A + B + C + D = 97

A +(20A +115)/3+(5A +40)/3+ (8A +28) = 97

52A = 291-239

A = 1

B = (5A + 40)/3

Present age of B = (5(1) + 40)/3

=15 years

10) Answer: D

Data inadequate.
