UKIBC launches Aerospace and Defence Industry Group
- The Uk India Business Council (Ukibc) And The Defence And Security Organisation (Dso) Announced The Establishment Of An Aerospace And Defence Industry Group. The Group Will Be Supported By The Uk Defence Solutions Centre (Uk Dsc), Ads Group Ltd, The Department For International Trade (Dit), And Industry.
- The purpose of the Aerospace and Defence Industry Group is to support the positive momentum in the UK-India defence partnership. It seeks to enhance UK-India strategic cooperation, drive improvements and efficiency in India’s defence acquisition process and to foster longer term technology and hardware transfers between the UK and India.
- The UK-India relationship in aerospace and defence is driven by distinct and powerful drivers on both sides.
- The Government of India (GoI) is strongly focused on the modernisation and the enhancement of its military capability; future strategic programmes include the 114-fighter programme, Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft, aircraft carriers and an up to 5,000 armoured-vehicles requirement.

‘YuWaah’ youth skilling initiative to provide jobs to 300 million launched by Unicef,central govt
- National initiative – YuWaah – aimed at imparting skills among the youth and providing employment to more than 300 million young Indians was launched by Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani with an alliance of national and international partners, including Unicef.
- With the aim to transform the countries involved into hubs of education, skilling and employment for its more than 300 million young people aged 10-24 years.

CM Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy launches YSR Law Nestham scheme
- Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy launched YSR Law Nestham scheme at Tadepalli and a stipend of Rs 5,000 has been credited into the accounts of beneficiary junior lawyers with the click of the button.
- The eligibility of the candidate is, they should be under the age of 35 and must be a graduate in Law and only one member from each family is eligible to apply for the scheme, also junior lawyers who have stopped practising law are not eligible. Junior lawyers will be eligible for the scheme for the remaining three years after completing the first three years of practice. Also senior lawyers with 15 years of practice experience and who are currently active in practice with certification from the Bar Association are also applicable for the scheme.
- The eligible candidates can apply through the website by uploading their birth certificate, law degree certificate, aadhar card number and specified bank account details and after the registration, the certificates should remain in the Bar Council for 2 years. And if the candidate has decided to quit the job or is getting into another job the relevant authorities should be informed about it.

Country’s first aqualab to be set up in Dehradun
- The Uttarakhand state forest minister Shri Harak Singh Rawat laid foundation stone of India’s first Ganga centralised aqualab at Wildlife Institute of India (WII) Dehradun, Uttarakhand.
- The aqualabs will be set up under the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG). Various aquatic life forms found in the 2525-kilometer-long Ganga river would be preserved in the lab WII.
- Genetic laboratories, water quality analysis and geospatial database of Ganga river would be generated that would help in creating solutions in protecting the Ganga river.
- Tributaries of river Ganga such as Gomti, Betwa, Kosi will be scientifically studied and their biological components will be preserved in the lab.

Odisha’s famed ‘Kalia’ scheme to be merged with Centre’s PM-KISAN
- The Odisha government has decided to merge its flagship scheme to provide assistance to farmers with the Centre’s Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) yojana, apparently due to financial constraint.
- According to the provisions of the ‘Kalia’ scheme, farmers, mostly small and marginal cultivators, are entitled to get Rs 10,000 in two instalments for two crops in a year. The landless agricultural farmers are also eligible to get Rs 12,000 per annum for three years.
- The state government has already paid first instalment (of Rs 5,000) under Kalia scheme and process is on to disburse the second one.
- Under PM-Kisan scheme, the central government is providing annually Rs 6,000 in three equal instalments to about 14 crore farmers.
- According to the new guidelines, the farmers will get Rs 10,000 per annum as provided under the ‘Kalia’ scheme. Cultivators would not be able to avail the central’s assistance of Rs 6,000 annually after the merger.
- Poor farmers of the state can expect to get Rs 16,000 (Rs 10,000 from ‘Kalia’ and Rs 6,000 from PM-Kisan) a year, but, according to the new guidelines, they will get just Rs 10,000.
- Of the annual financial assistance of Rs 10,000, the state government will give Rs 4,000 to farmers while the rest will be provided from the Centre’s scheme.

RBI proposes new prepaid card for transactions up to Rs. 10,000
- The Reserve Bank proposed the introduction of a prepaid payment instrument (PPI) for transactions up to Rs. 10,000 on goods and services.
- PPIs have been playing an important role in promoting digital payments and bringing in the new PPI will further facilitate its usage.
- Such PPIs can be issued on the basis of essential minimum details sourced from the customer. The RBI said it will give instructions in this regard by December 31, 2019.
- PPIs are instruments to facilitate purchase of goods and services, including financial services, remittance facilities among others against the value stored on such instruments.
- There are currently three kinds of PPIs allowed by RBI — closed system PPIs, semi-closed system PPIs and open system PPIs.

HDFC ERGO launches my:health Woman Suraksha – A special health insurance for women
- HDFC ERGO General Insurance Company, India’s third-largest non-life insurance provider in the private sector, announced the launch of ‘ my:health Woman Suraksha policy’.
- It is specially designed to cover women against numerous illnesses and contingencies they may face during their lifetime, thereby providing financial aid in case of medical contingencies.
- According to the National Health Portal of India, women in India face numerous health issues like breast cancer, malnutrition, lack of maternal health. This policy will cover various types of cancers & related surgeries, pregnancy and neonatal (newborn baby) complications and assaults & burns.
- The policy will also cover women from critical illnesses like Cardiac ailments, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and others along with post-diagnosis support like Molecular Gene profiling test, Second Medical opinion and counselling to support women through the illness.
- This policy is offered to women between 18-65 years of age and offers a sum insured ranging from Rs. 1 lakh to 1 crore.
Black Buck partners IDFC Bank, YES Bank to offer free FASTags to truckers
- Online trucking platform Black Buck has partnered with private lenders IDFC Bank and Yes Bank to provide FASTags to truck owners free of cost.
- Truck owners can order FASTags on Black Buck’s Boss App, a digital services platform exclusively for truck fleet owners, and it will be delivered at their doorstep free of cost until December 31, 2019.
- The FASTags on Black Buck Boss app are provided in partnership with IDFC Bank and Yes Bank. The initiative is expected to help over 3 million trucks in India become FASTag compliant.
- With this initiative, the company looks forward to support the government’s national electronic tolling agenda, which will reduce tolling times and revolutionise the logistics sector in India

- Priyanka Chopra has been honoured with UNICEF’s Danny Kaye Humanitarian Award.
- The India star was named the 2019 recipient of the Humanitarian Award by the United Nations Children’s Fund in June this year and received the award at the Snowflake Ball.
President of India presents the National Florence Nightingale Awards
- The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, presented the National Florence Nightingale Awards to nursing personnel in New Delhi (December 5, 2019) on the occasion of International Nurses Day.
- Nurses play a vital role in delivering quality and cost effective healthcare, addressing multiple health challenges and responding to health needs of individuals, families and communities.
- The world is more and more in need of care and compassion, and nurses indeed are a symbol of seva, shushrusha, karuna. For patients and their families, nurses are the face of healthcare services.

Roger Federer first living Swiss to have coin minted in his honour
- Tennis legend Roger Federer is to become the first living Swiss to have a coin minted in their honour, with a commemorative 20 franc (USD 20.06) silver piece bearing his image being issued in January.
- The 38-year-old 20-time Grand Slam champion is regarded by many as the greatest tennis player ever and is a national hero in Switzerland.
- The first minting ran off 55,000 units being sold out between the 2nd and 19th of December 2019 and more coins will be minted during May 2020 on a 50-Franc gold coin with a different design.
- Roger Federer is a well known tennis player of Switzerland who has won 103 tour level titles, 20 Grand slam crowns and 28 ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Masters 1000. He is also the first man who spent 310 weeks as No.1 in the ATP rankings, he finished for the 15th time as No.3 in the year end rankings of 2019 and holds a record. He has also been named a street called the Roger-Federer-Allee in 2012 and the Swiss post has released a Roger Federer stamp in Basel in 2007.

- Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh were bestowed with awards for organ donation the event was organized byNOTTO (National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization) of Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry (MoHFW) headed by Harsh Vardhan.
- Tamil Nadu (TN) was bestowed with Best State award in cadaveric organ donation for the fifth time, Gujarat won three awards for the Best SOTTO (State Organ Tissue Transplant Organization), Best hospital and Best coordinator in the organ donation field and Madhya Pradesh (MP) won the Best SOTTO award.
- Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH) in Chennai, Tamil Nadu won the Best Performing Hospital award.
- According to the Global Observatory on Donation and Transplantation (GODT), India performs second largest number of transplants in the world next to the United States of America (USA). And also India has an organ donation rate of 0.65 per million population (PMP).

2019 London Summit of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)
- The 2019 London Summit of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) was the 30th formal meeting of the heads of state and heads of government of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. It was held in The Grove, Watford, Hertfordshire, United Kingdom.
- The year 2019 marks the 70th anniversary of the summit. It was attended by NATO leaders and chaired by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
- The purpose of the summit was to make the heads of state and heads of government of NATO member countries to evaluate and provide strategic direction for Alliance activities.

IIT researchers to create ‘Gandhipedia’
- Two IITs and the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) have joined hands to develop ‘Gandhipedia’, an online repository of books, letters and speeches written by Mahatma Gandhi, to commemorate his 150th birth anniversary.
- The entire project will be done with the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
- IIT Gandhinagar is also a part of the project along with IIT Kharagpur and NSCM, an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Culture.
- In the first phase, over 40 books written by Mahatma Gandhi will be digitised and indexed and their portions tweeted.
- The books will be used to reconstruct the social network of the Mahatma, including those who had influenced him and people whom he had inspired.
- The first phase is expected to be completed by March next year followed by four more phases till March, 2024.
