Government extends Pradhan MantriKisan Sammaan Yojana to all farmers

  • The Cabinet has approved extension of Prime Minister Kisan Sammaan yojana to all farmers. Earlier the benefit of this scheme was applicable to farmers having two hectacre land.
  • Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomarsaid,nearly 14 crore 50 lakh farmers will benefit from the scheme.
  • Under the PM-Kisan scheme six thousand rupees per year is being given in three installments to the farmers.
  • The beneficiaries should be in the age group of 18 to 40 years. Under this scheme, the farmers will get a minimum fixed pension of 3 thousand rupees on attaining the age of 60.
  • All small shopkeepers, self-employed persons and retail traders with GST turnover of 1.5 crore rupees in the age group of 18 to 40 years will be eligible to enroll for the scheme through the designated centres across the country.
  • Altogether 3 crore retail traders and shopkeepers will be benefited under this scheme.

Cabinet extends scholarship to wards of martyred state police officials

  • PM Modi announced major changes to the Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme under the National Defence Fund.
  • Major changes approved in PM’s Scholarship Scheme under the National Defence Fund including enhanced scholarships for wards of police personnel martyred in terror or Maoist attacks.
  • The government has also changed the in rates of scholarship. The rates are now Rs 2,500 per month for boys and Rs 3,000 for girls. It was Rs 2,000 for boys and Rs 2,250 for girls earlier.
  • The Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme, which is under the NDF, is implemented to encourage technical and post-graduate education of widows and wards of armed forces personnel. Around 5,500 wards are awarded the PMSS every year.

Sovereign Gold Bond Scheme 2019-20

  • The Government of India, in consultation with the Reserve Bank of India, has decided to issue Sovereign Gold Bonds for 2019-20 starting from June 2019 to September 2019.
  • The Bonds will be sold every month between July and September only through:

Scheduled Commercial banks (except Small Finance Banks and Payment Banks),

Stock Holding Corporation of India Limited (SHCIL),

Designated post offices, and

Recognised stock exchanges viz., National Stock Exchange of India Limited and Bombay Stock Exchange Limited.

Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa receives Baton of Chairman COSC

  • Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Birender Singh Dhanoa received the baton of Chairman, Chiefs of Staff Committee from outgoing Chairman COSC and Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Sunil Lanba.
  • Air Chief Marshal Birender Singh Dhanoa will be the Chairman COSC with effect from May 31, 2019 consequent to relinquishment of charge by Admiral Sunil Lanba upon superannuation.

Indian-origin Anita Bhatia appointed as UN Deputy Executive Director

  • Indian-origin Anita Bhatia has been the Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN-Women) for Resource Management, Sustainability and Partnerships.
  • She was appointed by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in the global body’s agency focussed on women empowerment and gender equality.
  • Veteran Indian diplomat and a gender equality champion Lakshmi Puri had previously served as the Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations and Deputy Executive Director of UN Women.

Goa appoints Namrata Menonas brand ambassador to promote yoga

  • Yoga instructor and fitness expert NamrataMenon was appointed Goa’s brand ambassador to promote the ancient system of physical and mental practices in the coastal state.
  • Health Minister VishwajitRane said NamrataMenon, who has been doing extraordinary work in the field of yoga, has been selected to promote it across the state.

Tripura to host 10th National Science Film Festival of India in 2020

  • In an effort to raise awareness about science and environment through films, the 10th National Science Film Festival of India (NSFFI) will be organised in Tripura on January and February 2020.
  • The film festival is being held with the objective of highlighting science, technology, innovation, energy, environment, agriculture and traditional knowledge in a simple way that would bring science closer to common people through simple ways of explanation.
  • The film festival would include films produced by UNICEF, UNESCO and filmmakers from different countries. It will also include entries from Tripura and other states.
  • Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb will make an appeal to filmmakers and producers to participate in this film-making initiative in July this year.

IIT Guwahati signs MoU with ISRO to set up first-of-its-kind space technology centre in the Northeast

  • IIT Guwahati has signed anMoU with The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to set up an IITG-ISRO Space Technology Cell (STC) at the institute where Assam Governor JagdishMukhi inaugurated a new academic complex and research and development building.
  • IITG-ISRO STC would be first of its kind in the North-east region to augment research and capacity building processes in the field of space technology.

HMSI partners with IDFC FIRST Bank to offer financing solutions

  • Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has partnered with IDFC FIRST Bank to provide financing solutions across the country.
  • The two partners have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) under which facilities like loans up to 100 per cent of vehicle cost, zero processing fee, down payment of₹999, and extended loan tenure of 48 months, among others will be offered to the two-wheeler maker’s customers.

India concludes best ever ISSF WC performance in Munich

  • In Shooting, India produced their best ever show at the ISSF World Cup with a total tally of five gold medals in Munich, Germany.
  • India topped the medals tally with five golds and a silver. Second-placed China bagged nine medals – two gold, two silver and five bronze medals.
  • India gold medallists included Apurvi Chandela in the Women’s 10 metre Air Rifle, Rahi Sarnobat in the Women’s 25m Pistol and Saurabh Chaudhary in the men’s 10m Air Pistol.
  • The pair of Anjum Moudgil and Divyansh Singh Panwar first won the 10m Air Rifle mixed team gold. Teenage pair of Manu Bhaker and Saurabh Chaudhary backed them up with the 10m Air Pistol mixed team title.
  • In the Mixed Air Rifle, it was an all India gold medal match and Apurvi Chandela and Deepak Kumar landed the country its lone silver

Chelsea beat Arsenal in Europa League final

  • Chelsea got the better of its English Premier League rivals to win the Europa League final, beating Arsenal 4-1 in the Baku Olympic Stadium.
  • Chelsea won their fifth major Uefa European competition final, with only Liverpool winning more among eight English clubs.
