Maharashtra’s Rural Local Bodies Receive over ₹620 Crore XV Finance Commission Grants
- The Union Government has released the Fifteenth Finance Commission (XV FC) Grants for Rural Local Bodies in Maharashtra for FY 2024–25.
- The release includes the 2nd installment of Untied Grants amounting to ₹611.6913 crore and the withheld portion of the 1st installment amounting to ₹8.4282 crore.
- The funds are allocated to 4 District Panchayats, 40 Block Panchayats, and 21,551 Gram Panchayats in the state.
Key Highlights :
- Untied Grants can be used by Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs)/Rural Local Bodies (RLBs) for location-specific needs, excluding salaries and establishment costs.
- Tied Grants can be used for:
- Sanitation and ODF maintenance, including household waste, human excreta, and fecal sludge management.
- Drinking water supply, rainwater harvesting, and water recycling.
- The grants are recommended by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj and Ministry of Jal Shakti and released by the Ministry of Finance in two installments per year.

Nagaland Launches Agricultural Best Practices to Boost Rural Entrepreneurship
- The North East Center for Technology Application and Reach (NECTAR) has set up a Common Facility Center (CFC) in Kukidolong village in Chumukedima district, Nagaland to promote rural entrepreneurship.
- This is part of a Farmers Mobilization and Awareness Program initiative launched in Nihoto village in Dimapur district, Nagaland.
- Representatives from eight villages participated in this initiative under the PM-DevINE project.
- The Consortium for Training, Research and Development, Guwahati and the Entrepreneurs Associate, Kohima jointly conducted the training session.
- There was special emphasis on best agricultural practices and the importance of supporting the CFC on community-wide benefits.
- The best practices included converting banana pseudo-stem into marketable products, extracting banana fibre, producing nonwoven fibre, preparing organic liquid nutrients and manufacturing handmade paper.
- However, the insights were provided by progressive farmer Kitoho S Rotokha and Kitoho Michael Swu of the State Agriculture Department.

- Bajaj Auto has reappointed Rajivnayan Rahulkumar Bajaj as Managing Director & CEO for another five-year term, effective April 1, 2025, subject to shareholder approval.
- The company has announced a ₹1,500 crore fund infusion into its wholly-owned subsidiary, Bajaj Auto Credit Ltd (BACL).
- The investment aims to support BACL’s projected AUM growth for FY 2025-26 and will be provided in installments through equity capital, preference capital, or subordinated debt.
- Rajiv Bajaj, who has led Bajaj Auto since 2005, is credited with transforming it into a global leader in two- and three-wheelers.
- Holds a mechanical engineering degree from the College of Engineering Pune.
- Completed a master’s in manufacturing systems engineering from the University of Warwick.

Indian and French Navies to hold 23rd edition of VARUNA naval exercise
- The Indian Navy and the French Navy will carry out the 23rd edition of their bilateral naval exercise, VARUNA, from March 19 to 22, 2025
- First Conducted: 1993 (as part of Indo-French cooperation), renamed as Varuna in 2001
- The exercise has been an important part of India-France maritime cooperation since it began in 2001 and reflects the strong naval partnership between the two countries.
- According to an official press release, VARUNA 2025 will focus on improving coordination and cooperation between the two navies.
- The exercise will include various drills and manoeuvres involving underwater, surface, and air operations.
- Key warships and aircraft from both navies will take part, including India’s aircraft carrier INS Vikrant and France’s aircraft carrier FS Charles de Gaulle.
- Other participants include fighter aircraft, destroyers, frigates, and an Indian Scorpene-class submarine.
- The exercise will feature advanced air defence drills and fighter jet exercises, including mock air combat between India’s MiG-29K and France’s Rafale-M jets.
- Anti-submarine warfare drills will focus on strengthening underwater surveillance, while surface warfare operations will involve coordinated movements and engagements by ships from both navies.
- Maritime patrol aircraft will assist in improving situational awareness, and replenishment-at-sea exercises will boost logistical cooperation.

- The four-member Crew-9 mission, including Wilmore and Williams, experienced a safe splashdown.
- Former U.S. President Donald Trump demanded an earlier return, alleging political delays.
- NASA expedited Crew-9’s replacement mission and advanced SpaceX capsule readiness.
- Wilmore denied any political influence on NASA’s decision to keep them on the ISS.
- Boeing’s Starliner faced propulsion issues, delaying the return.
