Tamil Nadu Proposes ‘Income Distance’ Criteria for Devolution to 16th Finance Commission

  • Highlights the critical neonatal phase (first 28 days of life), a period with the highest risk of infant mortality and a crucial time for ensuring long-term health and development.
  • Aims to provide universal access to high-quality newborn healthcare, ensuring babies’ right to breathe, stay warm, be nourished, and protected from infections and injuries.

Key Statistics and Goals

World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week (WAAW) 2024

  • World AMR Awareness Week (WAAW) is an annual global campaign observed from 18-24 November.
  • Its primary objective is to raise awareness and understanding of AMR and encourage best practices to mitigate the emergence and spread of drug-resistant infections.

  • Raising awareness about antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
  • Encouraging best practices to combat drug-resistant infections.
  • Mobilizing global action across sectors, including human health, animal health, agriculture, and the environment (One Health approach).

What is AMR?

Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) occurs when pathogens such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites evolve to resist antimicrobial agents (e.g., antibiotics, antivirals). This resistance renders treatments ineffective, leading to:

  • Harder-to-treat infections.
  • Increased illness severity and death rates.
  • Higher risks of disease spread.

Global Threat of AMR
