- GST Rule 10A: According to GST Rule 10A, a taxpayer is required to furnish bank account details:
- Within 30 days from the date of grant of registration.
- Or before filing the details of outward supplies in Form GSTR-1 or using IFF, whichever is earlier.
- Objective of the Rule: The enforcement of this rule aims to strengthen the GST registration process and address issues related to fake and fraudulent registrations.
- GST Council Approval: The amendment to Rule 10A was approved by the GST Council in its meeting in July last year to enhance the authenticity of GST registrations.
- GSTN Advisory: The Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) issued an advisory on August 23, 2024, urging taxpayers who have not yet provided their bank account details to update their registration details on the GST portal.

Maharashtra Leads as First State to Implement Unified Pension Scheme for Government Employees
- The Maharashtra cabinet has decided to implement the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) for state government employees, making it the first state to adopt the scheme announced by the Union government.
- The decision was announced by the Maharashtra cabinet and will take effect from March 2024.
What is the Unified Pension Scheme?
- The Narendra Modi-led Centre approved the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) for central government employees who joined service after January 1, 2004.
- The UPS provides an assured pension of 50% of the average basic pay over the last 12 months before retirement for eligible employees.
- The scheme is applicable to employees under the National Pension Scheme (NPS) who have completed at least 25 years of qualifying service.
- UPS will start from April 1, 2025, with an increased government contribution from 14% to 18.5%, incurring an estimated additional annual cost of ₹6,250 crore.
Financial Implications:
- Despite the increase in government contribution, employees’ contribution remains at 10% of their basic salary.
- An arrear of ₹800 crore will be payable to employees retiring before March 31, 2025, opting for UPS.
- This step follows discussions on returning to the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) in various non-BJP states and demands for pension reforms.
