International Anti-Corruption Day: 9th December
- International Anti-Corruption Day 2022 is observed on the 9th of December 2022.
- International Anti Corruption Day 2022 theme set by the UN this year is “Recover with Integrity”.
- Transparency International has organized, easy-to-read data on corruption levels around the world starting from 1995.
- The U.N. has launched a special campaign on corruption in the last two years with the theme ‘Recover with Integrity’.
- Corruption has existed from time immemorial.
- Some of the earliest records of Anti Corruption texts can be found in the Code of Hammurabi of Babylonia, the Great Edict of Horemheb in Egypt, and Arthashastra in India.
- These texts spoke about bribery practices among officers of the state and law.

The production of coal in India increased by 11.66% in November:
- The total amount of coal produced in India increased by 11.66% from 67.94 million tonnes in November 2021 to 75.87 million tonnes in November 2022.
- According to data from the coal ministry, Coal India Ltd. (CIL) experienced an increase in November 2022 of 12.82%, while Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) and other captive mines experienced growth of 7.84% and 6.87%, respectively.
- Out of the top 37 coal mines, 24 mines produced more than 100% of the total output, and five mines produced between 80% and 100% of the total output.
- In November, the dispatch of power utilities grew by 3.55 percent to 62.34 million tonnes from 60.20 million tonnes during the same month last year.
- Raosaheb Danve Patil, the Union Minister of State for Coal, stated that India intends to boost its yearly coal production to 1.5 billion tonnes by 2030 to fulfill its rising fuel demand.
- Our overall dispatch for 2013–14 was 572 million tons, 817 million tons last year, and 900 million tons this year.
- Despite this, local production would not be able to meet the entire demand for coal, according to the minister.

Number of people forcibly displaced crossed 100 million in 2022: UNDP
- According to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) report “Turning the tide on internal displacement: A development approach to solutions”, for the first time, more than 100 million people were forcibly displaced in 2022, most of them within their own countries
- This was the highest global figure and more than double the number recorded 10 years ago, the analysis by UNDP and the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC) showed.
- The data was collected by the IDMC from January 2021 to January 2022.
- These internally displaced persons struggle to cover their basic needs, find decent work or have a stable source of income, among other challenges, the global body highlighted, describing their plight as an ‘invisible crisis’ due to gaps in development support.
Key Highlights :
- At the end of 2021, due to conflict, violence, disasters, and climate change, more than 59 million people have been forcibly displaced within their own countries.
- In Ukraine, due to the war, more than 6.5 million people have been internally displaced.
- According to the World Bank, by 2050, around 216 million people will be displaced due to climate change.
- In 2021, the direct impact of the internal displacement cost was more than 21.5 billion dollars.
- Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, North Africa, and parts of the Americas are the most affected regions by the internal displacement linked with conflicts and violence.
- 48% of internally displaced households earn less money than they did before they were displaced.
- Disaster-related internal displacement has been recorded in 130 countries.

TN govt signs MoU with a German bank to implement green power corridor
- Tamil Nadu Transmission Corporation has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for a loan with German bank KFW to implement phase two of the Green Energy Corridor (GEC) in TN.
Key Highlights :
- The Centre has approved Rs 719.79 crore for the project in Tamil Nadu, including the grant of 33% from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, while 47% cost of the project will be funded by the loan from KFW and the remaining 20% as equity from the Tamil Nadu Transmission Corporation Limited (Tantransco).
- As per the ministry’s instruction, the tender must be floated by December 2023.
- The work has been scheduled to be completed by 2025-2026.
- GEC phase-2 scheme will add 10,753 circuit kilometers of transmission lines and 27,546 megavolt-amperes capacity of substations in 7 states – Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh.
- In TN, Tantransco would establish a 400kV substation at Samugarengapuram in Tirunelveli district, three 230kV substations at Poolavady and Kongalnagaram in Tiruppur district, and Muppandal in Kanyakumari district under phase 2.
- The scheme would help create intra-state transmission infrastructure required for evacuating 4,000MW from renewable energy power projects by setting up 624 circuit km of transmission lines in TN.

Delhi Police to design a high-frequency radio system
- Delhi Police is set to design, install and supply the ‘Open Standard Digital Trunking Radio System’ (OS-DTRS) and will phase out the current tetranet wireless network services.
- The project will cost close to Rs 100 crore.

- It will be a more efficient internal communication system, aimed at a faster exchange of information and bigger networks.
- The trunking system provides multiple channels and common groups for policemen.

Kashmir Tourism Department to organize Houseboat festival in Srinagar

Delhi, UP & Maharashtra top in electric vehicle penetration
- Delhi, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh have the highest penetration of electric two-wheelers, passenger vehicles, and three-wheelers respectively.
- According to a BNP Paribas report on India’s electric vehicles for November 2022, Delhi had 9.3% two-wheeler electric vehicle penetration followed by Kerala and Karnataka.

- In the passenger vehicle (PV) segment, Maharashtra registered 2.4% e-vehicle penetration followed by Kerala with 2.1% and Delhi with 2.1% in November 2022.
- Tata Motors remained the electric PV market leader with a 76% volume market share.
- Uttar Pradesh led the electric three-wheelers penetration in India with 77.1% in November, Punjab with 72.7%, and Delhi with 68.6%.
- Mahindra & Mahindra and YC Electric had a 7.9% volume share while Rajasthan saw the fastest electricthree–wheeler month-on-month volume growth.

Walmart and NSIC Sign an Agreement:
- The National Small Industries Corporation Ltd. and Walmart Global Sourcing India Private Limited have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to facilitate services for MSMEs in the Walmart Vriddhi program.
- Using this MoU, NSIC will be able to offer its programs and other services to MSMEs that take part in different Vriddhi programs.
- Additionally, the MSMEs would be exposed to different benefits of obtaining working capital, help for large-scale purchases, etc. under various chances provided by NSIC.
- MSMEs, which are a part of the NSIC ecosystem, will also be connected to the Vriddhi program in pertinent clusters and will have “free of charge” access to the program’s existing business training materials, advisory support, tools, and knowledge.
- By 2030, MSME exports will be able to surpass $2 trillion in value thanks in large part to the MoU.
- Especially during the pandemic, Walmart played a crucial role in providing training and capacity building for MSMEs.

- Gautam Adani, Shiv Nadar of HCL Technologies, and Ashok Soota of Happiest Minds Technologies are the three Indians chosen for the 16th edition of the yearly list.
- The list honors the region’s most prominent donors who have shown a strong personal dedication to causes such as education and the environment.
- Malaysian-Indian Brahmal Vasudevan, founder and CEO of Kuala Lumpur-based private equity firm Creador, and his lawyer wife, Shanthi Kandiah, help Malaysian and Indian communities through the Creador Foundation, a non-profit they co-founded in 2018.

New Design of The President’s Standard and Colour & the Indian Navy Crest Unveiled
- The Hon’ble President of India has approved the introduction of a new design for the President’s Standard and Colour and Indian Navy Crest for the Indian Navy, which was unveiled at Visakhapatnam on Navy Day on 04 Dec 2022.
About The President’s color and standards :
- The Indian Navy adopted a new naval ensign about three months back, and the new design of the President’s Standard and President’s Colour awarded to the Indian Navy incorporates this change.
- The President’s Colour is given to the ‘operational formation of the force’ while the President’s Standard is meant for the ‘static formation.’
- They are given to the best-performing units of the force.
- The new design of the President’s Standard and Colour comprises three main constituents;
- The national flag in the upper-left canton adjacent to the staff,
- The state emblem undescribed with ‘Satyamev Jayate’ in golden color on the upper right canton on the fly side and,
- A Navy Blue-Gold Octagon below the golden state emblem.
About the Indian Navy Crest :
- The Indian Navy Crest has been amended to replace the foul anchor with a Clear Anchor.
- The clear anchor depicts the steadfastness of the Indian Navy to deter any challenge in the maritime domain and represents clarity in the vision, mission, and aspirations of its sailors.
- The Clear Anchor also depicts the Indian Navy’s commitment to securing the Coast and Maritime Interests of India.
Features:
- The design comprised one horizontal and vertical red band intersecting at the center and the national emblem inserted at their intersection.
- The national flag was at the upper left canton adjacent to the staff, and a golden elephant was at the lower right canton on the fly side.
- This design was inspired by the erstwhile naval ensign.
- The Octagon has twin golden octagonal borders, encompassing the golden national emblem (Lion Capital of Ashoka resting atop an anchor; and superimposed on a shield.
- Below the shield, within the octagon, in a golden bordered ribbon, on a Navy Blue background, is inscribed the motto of the Indian Navy, ‘Sam No Varunah’ in golden Devnagri script.
Importance :
- The golden state emblem signifies ‘power, courage, confidence, and pride’ whilst the navy blue-golden octagon shape draws inspiration from Shivaji Maharaj Rajmudra or the Seal of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
- It represents the eight directions (four cardinal and four intercardinal), symbolizing the Indian Navy’s maritime outreach.

IIT Madras develops Ocean Wave Energy Converter to generate electricity from sea waves
- Researchers at IIT Madras have developed and deployed an ‘Ocean Wave Energy Converter’ to generate electricity from sea waves.
- The device has been named Sindhuja-I (Ocean Wave Energy Converter) which can generate electricity from sea waves.
- The device completed its trials during the second week of November 2022.
- The device was deployed at a location about 6 kilometers off the coast of Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu, at a location with a depth of 20 meters.
About Sindhuja-I :
- The device targets generating 1 MW of power from ocean waves in the next three years
- This system has a floating buoy, a spar, and an electrical module.
- The buoy has a central hole that allows a long rod called a spar to pass through it.
- This device will help India in undertaking deep water missions and creating a Blue Economy.
- The targeted stakeholders are the oil and gas, defense and security installations, and communication sectors.
- The project will help in fulfilling the objectives of the UN Ocean decade and sustainable development goals.
- India has set a target of generating 500 GW of electricity by 2030 through renewable energy.
Center Approves Formation of Advisory Group to Bring Synergy in Bamboo Value Chain

- The Restructured National Bamboo Mission was launched during 2018-19 as a Centrally Sponsored Scheme.
- It primarily focuses on the development of a complete value chain of the bamboo sector to connect producers to consumers.
- The selection of beneficiaries and delivery of assistance are being carried out by the State Bamboo Mission/State Bamboo Development agency stationed at the State/UT nodal department for implementing the National Bamboo Mission
- It is being implemented through the state nodal department which is nominated by the State/UT governments concerned.

Saikhom Mirabai Chanu wins silver in the World Weightlifting Championships in Colombia.
- Mirabai Chanu, an Olympic silver medalist, earned silver in the 2022 World Weightlifting Championships in Colombia.
- She defeated China’s Olympic champion, Hou Zhihua. Jiang Huihua of China won gold with a combined weight of 206 kg.
- Mirabai hoisted a total of 200 kg, whereas Zhihua only lifted 198 kg.
- Mirabai’s second World Championships medal, having previously won gold in 2017 with a lift of 194 kg.
- Mirabai Chanu, participating in her first international meet since winning the Commonwealth Games 2022 in August, struggled with her left wrist in clean and jerk.
- The Indian weightlifter failed her first effort, lifted 111kg on her second attempt, and matched eventual gold medalist Jiang Huihua’s 113kg on her third attempt to place third.
- Mirabai of Manipur had previously won gold at the World Weightlifting Championships in 2017.
- She won a gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
