International Day of UN Peacekeepers-29th May
- On the 29th of May, the UN Peacekeepers International Day is commemorated around the world.

- Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi announced that India has become one of the world’s fastest-growing economies.
- He was addressing an occurrence where he announced the PM-CARES for Children’s Scheme’s benefits.
- Within the midst of the pandemic’s negative mood, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that India relied on its strength.
- Prime Minister Modi transferred scholarships to school-going children. Also, a passbook of PM CARES for Children, and a Health card under Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana was handed over to children during the program.
- Under this PM-CARES scheme, PM Modi helped children with someone’s needs education loans for higher education. and they will give monthly Rs 4000 for children daily needs.
- Apart from Rs 10 lakh on attaining the age of 23 years, the children will be given health coverage through the Ayushman Card and emotional counseling through the ‘samvad helpline’ for psychological and emotional help.

Ease of living: Common platform called Jan Samarth is to be launched soon
- To make life easier for the average man, the government plans to develop Jan Samarth, a unified platform for the implementation of several initiatives run by several ministries and departments.
- As part of the Shri Narendra Modi government’s goal of minimal government maximum governance, the new portal will first enroll 15 credit-linked government activities.

- Because some of the Centrally Sponsored Schemes incorporate many agencies, the services will be gradually expanded based on compatibility.
- Initiatives like the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and the Credit Linked Capital Subsidy Scheme are handled by several ministries.
- The planned site attempts to bring together many programs on a single platform so that beneficiaries can conveniently access them.
- The State Bank of India and other lenders are conducting pilot tests and cleaning up loose ends in preparation for the formal launch.
- Various state-owned banks can now approve loans for MSMEs and other borrowers in principle in 59 minutes, compared to the previous turnaround time of 20-25 days.
Jet Airways Gets DGCA approval To Start Commercial Flights:
- Jet Airways has been given an air operator’s authorization by the DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation).
- After more than three years of being grounded, the airline will be able to resume commercial flight operations.
- The airline received certification after conducting proving flights for the safety regulator between May 15 and May 17.
- The airline intends to launch service in the second quarter, between July and September.
- It will be a full-service airline that will offer both business and economy classes.

- Jet Airways has met all of the pre-conditions set by the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) as part of the insolvency process for the transfer of ownership of the airline to the successful resolution applicant, a consortium consisting of UAE-based NRI Murari Lal Jalan and London-based Kalrock Capital Management.
- The NCLT authorized the Jalan-Kalrock consortium’s resolution plan for Jet Airways’ rebirth in June.
- They recommended a cash injection of Rs 1,375 crores into the airline, with Rs 475 crores going to creditors and Rs 900 crores going to CAPEX and working capital.

Kuwait To Build The World’s Largest Petroleum Research Center
- Kuwait’s Ministry of Oil announced that it plans to start building the world’s largest petroleum research center by the end of 2022 in al-Ahmadi, south of Kuwait city.
- The center will have 28 technological laboratories and hire more than 600 employees.
- The estimated cost of the project is $120 million.
- It will seek to develop improved production and refining techniques that can be used by the industry for different applications including the extraction of heavy crude and non-associated gas.

Telangana Launches a Single-Pick Cotton Pilot Project
- The government of Telangana has launched a single-pick cotton pilot project on 50,000 acres.
About Single-Pick Cotton Pilot Project :
- This method will help increase yields by up to 40%.
- The single-pick cotton will be suitable for machine harvest because the plants will grow to a uniform height of around knee-level compared to the tall varieties of cotton.
- Presently, the farmers pick cotton bolls at least three to four times, but this method will help the farmers to extend the harvest by a few weeks and allow farmers to complete the harvest all at once.
Single-pick cotton:
- Cotton varieties flower at one time and boll bursting happen at the same time.

Nanjarayan Tank to become Tamil Nadu’s 17th bird sanctuary
- Tamil Nadu Minister for Forests K. Ramachandran announced in the Assembly, that Nanjarayan Tank in Tiruppur district is the 17th bird sanctuary of Tamil Nadu.
- An initial amount of ₹5 crores has been allocated for the works.
- Also, Slender loris sanctuaries will be established in Dindigul and Karur districts with Rs 5 crore.

- The Nanjarayan Tank is a 86-hectare water body, hosts around 130 bird species along with other flora and fauna.

International Day of Yoga to be observed in Karnataka on June 21, 2022
- Minister Ayush Sarbanand Sonowal announced that the main event of the 8th International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2022 will be held at Mysore in Karnataka on June 21, 2022.
- Also, The International Day of Yoga would be falling in the “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” year & the ministry has also planned to observe it at 75 iconic locations across the country, focusing on branding India on a global scale.

RBI reduces the net-worth requirement for non-bank BBPOU to Rs 25 crore from Rs 100 crore
- The RBI eased norms for non-bank entities to set up Bharat Bill Payment operating units by reducing the net-worth requirement to Rs 25 crore from Rs 100 crore to encourage more players in the segment.
- This circular is issued under Section 10 (2) read with Section 18 of the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007 (Act 51 of 2007), and shall come into effect immediately.
About BBPS :
- Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) is an interoperable platform for bill payments and the scope and coverage of BBPS extend to all categories of billers who raise recurring bills.
- The BBPS is owned by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).
- Through this platform, Payments can be made via transfer cheques, cash, and electronic modes.

- Standardized bill payment experience
- Centralized customer grievance redressal mechanism

IRDAI establish committees through GIC to recommend industry overhaul
- The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has formed various committees through the General Insurance Council (GIC) to suggest reforms in several areas of general, reinsurance, and life insurance such as regulation, product, distribution, among others.
- These panels include heads of private and public sector insurance companies, members of Irdai, and representatives from the GIC.

PAN or Aadhaar mandatory for cash deposits or withdrawals of Rs 20 lakh or more
- The Central Board of Direct Taxes has made new rules, called the Income-tax (Fifteenth Amendment) Rules, 2022, as per this, the government has made quoting of PAN or Aadhar mandatory for cash withdrawals/deposits amounting to Rs. 20 lakh or more in a single financial year.
- The fresh guideline will also be applicable for the opening of a current bank account or cash credit account by a person with a banking company or a cooperative bank or a post office.
- Also, a person is required to apply for PAN at least seven days before making any of the aforementioned transactions.
As per the new rules, PAN or Aadhaar will be compulsory in the following transactions:
- Cash deposit or deposits aggregating to ₹20 lakh or more in a financial year, in one or more accounts of a person with a banking company or a co-operative bank or a post office
- Cash withdrawal or withdrawals aggregating to ₹20 lakh or more in a financial year, in one or more accounts of a person with a banking company or a co-operative bank or a post office
- Opening of a current account or cash credit account by a person with a banking company or a co-operative bank or a post office
- For authentication referred to in section 139A, the permanent account number or Aadhaar number along with demographic information or biometric information of an individual shall be submitted to the Principal Director General of Income-tax (Systems) or Director General of Income-tax (Systems) or the person authorized by the Principal Director General of Income-tax (Systems) or Director General of Income-tax (Systems) with the approval of the Board.

- Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique identity number.
- The data is collected by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) a statutory authority established in January 2009 by the Government of India, under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, under the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and other Subsidies, benefits and services) Act, 2016.
RBI survey: ₹100 is the most preferred banknote, ₹2,000 the least
- The Reserve Bank of India’s Banknote Survey of Consumers findings revealed that, among banknotes, ₹100 was the most preferred while ₹2,000 was the least preferred denomination.
- Among coins, the denomination of ₹5 was the most preferred whereas ₹1 was the least preferred.
Key Highlights :
- As per the survey, the Watermark of Mahatma Gandhi’s image followed by the windowed security thread were the most recognized security feature.
- Around 3 percent of the respondents were not aware of any banknote security feature.
- Overall, approximately 7 out of 10 respondents were found to be satisfied with the new series of banknotes.

- In the RBI Survey, a diverse sample of 11,000 respondents from rural, semiurban, urban and metropolitan areas, spanning 28 states and three union territories
- The survey also included 351 visually impaired respondents.
- The survey covered respondents from the age of 18 to 79 years with a gender representation of 60:40 for males and females.
- It has been conducted to assess demand for cash as well as denomination preferences at the consumer level.

Jharkhand To get WHO Award for Controlling Tobacco Consumption
- The World Health Organization (WHO) has selected Jharkhand for the World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) Award-2022 in recognition of its efforts to reduce tobacco consumption.
- Stata Tobacco Control Cell of the Health Department will receive the award on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day in Delhi on May 31, 2022.
Reasons for the reduction of tobacco in Jharkhand :
- Awareness and restrictions on the use of Tobacco such as the prohibition of smoking in public places and making it a punishable offense.
- Successful campaigns and reach-out helplines for those who planned on quitting tobacco.
- According to the Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS)-1 report, the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) was launched in Jharkhand in 2012, when the state’s tobacco prevalence rate was 51.1 percent, with 48 percent being smokeless users.
- According to the GATS-2 report, which was published in 2018, tobacco users in the state fell to 38.9 percent, with 35.4 percent being smokeless users.

- Every year, WHO recognizes individuals or organizations in each of the six WHO Regions for their accomplishments in the area of tobacco control.

- Emirates Telecommunications Group Company PJSC “e&” (Etisalat Group) has acquired approximately 2,766 million shares in Vodafone Group Plc aggregating to $4.4 billion, these shares represent 9.8% of Vodafone’s issued share capital.
- The transaction is in line with e&s ambition to be a global player in telecom and technology and to increase its exposure to international markets.
- It had invested to gain “significant exposure to a world leader in connectivity and digital services.
- Also, e& does not seek Board representation & is confident about the company’s ability to unlock value from its organic business activity and other potential strategic transactions.

Adani buys 50% stake in drone startup General Aeronautics
- A wholly-owned subsidiary of Adani Enterprises, Adani Defence Systems and Technologies Ltd., signed an agreement to acquire a 50% stake in Bengaluru-based General Aeronautics Pvt. Ltd.
- Adani Defence Systems and Technologies shall leverage its military drone and Artificial Intelligence/ Machine learning (AI/ML) capabilities and work with General Aeronautics for providing end-to-end solutions for the domestic agricultural sector.
- The acquisition is expected to be completed by July 31.
- The Adani group forayed into healthcare by incorporating Adani Health Ventures (AHVL).
- The new entity will be engaged in healthcare-related activities like setting up medical and diagnostic facilities, and research centers.
- The Adani family entered into definitive agreements for the acquisition of Switzerland-based Holcim Ltd’s entire stake in two Indian cement companies Ambuja Cements Ltd and ACC Ltd.
- Adani Enterprises unveiled its plans to acquire a 49% stake in Quintillion Business Media the parent entity of business news platform BQPrime.
- The Adani family has also committed to investing $75 million in Abu Dhabi-headquartered petrochemicals firm Borouge’s $2 billion initial public offerings (IPO), touted to be the biggest ever listing in the emirate.
- India’s largest commercial port operator Adani Ports and Special Economic Zones (APSEZ) said its subsidiary Adani Harbour Services will acquire a 100% stake in third-party marine services provider Ocean Sparkle Ltd, which has an enterprise value of ₹1,700 crores.

ISRO plans to build twin satellites, DISHA-L&H, to study the upper atmosphere
- The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) plans to build an identical pair of satellites named DISHA (Disturbed and quiet time Ionosphere-thermosphere System at High Altitudes) L&H to study the physics and chemistry of the upper atmosphere including the distribution of temperature, density, and chemical constituents, and the chemical reactions that occur there.
- The Satellites would be launched in low earth orbit about 500 kilometers above the earth.
- ISRO officials revealed this at a National Meeting on Aeronomy Research, themed “Science of Near-Earth Space and its Applications”.
About DISHA satellites :
- DISHA satellites will study space weather and solar-terrestrial interactions.
- This will help provide warnings based on space weather happenings so preventive actions can be taken quickly.
- The two satellites will carry identical payloads.
- The Disha H satellite will be placed at an 85-degree high inclination from the earth’s equator, whereas the Disha L satellite will be placed at a 25-degree low inclination
- The data generated by the proposed ISRO’s solar mission Aditya L1 and by DISHA satellites would help to understand the Sun-Earth linkages.

ICMR Report: India’s cancer burden to rise to 29.8 million in 2025
- According to a report by the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) on the ‘Burden of cancers in India’, The number of Indians suffering from cancer is projected to increase to 29.8 million in 2025 from 26.7 million in 2021.
- The findings of the report have been published in BMC Cancer Journal.
- The report estimates the cancer incidences in Years of Life Lost (YLLs), Years Lived with Disability (YLDs), and Disability-Adjusted Life Years (DALYs) from 2021 to 2025.
- In 2021, The highest incidence was noted in the North (2,408 patients per 100,000) and the Northeast (2,177 per 100,000).
- Cancer cases were higher among men.
- Mizoram, Delhi, and Meghalaya had the highest cancer Disability Adjusted Life Years (DALYs) and the most vulnerable demographic are people in the 65–69-year age group.
- As per the report, 7 cancers account for more than 40 percent of the total disease burden
- Lung Cancer (10.6 percent)
- Breast Cancer (10.5 percent)
- Mouth Cancer (5.7 percent)
- Liver Cancer (4.6 percent)
- Stomach cancer (5.2 percent)
- Oesophagus Cancer (5.8 percent)
- Cervix Uteri (4.3 per cent)
- As per National Centre for Disease Informatics and Research (NCDIR) 2021-2025 projections :
- Men will contribute to 14.7 Million Years of Life Lost (YLLs)
- 0.72 million Years Lived with Disability (YLDs)
- 15.5 million Disability Adjusted Life Years (DALYs) in 2025.
- For women will be 13.6 million YLLs, 0.69 million YLDs, and 14.3 DALYs.
Factors contributing to the increased risk of cancers :
1) Tobacco and alcohol consumption
2) increasing consumption of packaged food with harmful preservatives and junk food
3) obesity
4) radiation from mobile phone towers
5) vegetables are grown in toxic water like rivers near industries
6) adulteration in food and artificial coloring of food and vegetables.
What is DALY?
- The disability-adjusted life year (DALY) is a measure of overall disease burden, expressed as the number of years lost due to ill-health, disability, or early death.
- It has become more common in the field of public health and health impact assessment (HIA).

CURRENT AFFAIRS: MOUS AND AGREEMENT
India and Jordan have agreed to collaborate in the fertilizers sector:
- Mansukh Mandaviya led a high-level delegation to Jordan in a first-of-its-kind mission to secure fertilizers and raw materials for the short and long term.
- The visit was timed to coincide with the current worldwide fertilizer crisis.
- According to Dr. Mandaviya, the Jordan visit was significant in ensuring India’s supply of phosphoric and potassium fertilizers.
- Mansukh Mandaviya referred to Jordan as India’s preferred fertilizer partner during the meetings.

- Jordan Phosphate Mining Company (JPMC) inked MOUs with Indian public, cooperative, and private sector companies for supplies of 30 LMT Rock Phosphate, 2.50 LMT DAP, and 1 LMT phosphoric acid for 2022.
- India has signed a 5-year MOU with Jordan for yearly shipments of 2.75 LMT of MoP, which will gradually increase to 3.25 LMT each year.
- These shipments will be critical for India’s continued fertilizer supply in the coming agricultural seasons.

Women’s T20 Challenge: Supernovas Beat Velocity
- Supernovas defeated Velocity by four runs in the final of the Women’s T20 Challenge 2022.
- Deandra Dottin, a West Indies T20 specialist, starred with both bat and ball as Supernovas won their third Women’s T20 Challenge title with a four-run victory over Velocity.
- The BCCI organizes the Women’s T20 Challenge, an Indian women’s cricket 20-20 tournament.
- After being thrown in to bat first, Dottin blasted 62 off 44 balls at the top of the order to help Supernovas score a competitive 165-7 total.
- She recovered to take two wickets for 28 runs in four overs and was instrumental in limiting Velocity to 161-8.

Sidhu Moose Wala, a Punjabi singer, was killed:
- Sidhu Moose Wala, a 29-year-old Punjabi singer, was killed in Jawaharke village, Mansa district, Punjab, by unidentified assailants.
- The event occurred a day after the Punjab Police ordered his security, as well as the security of more than 420 people, including former MLAs, Jathedars of two Takhts, and Deras’ leaders, and police personnel, to be withdrawn.
About Sidhu Moose Wala:
- Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu alias Sidhu Moose Wala was born on June 17, 1993, in the Moose Wala hamlet of Mansa district.
- Moose Wala’s fan base numbered in the millions, and he was well-known for his rap.
- Moose Wala had an electrical engineering degree.
- He had studied music in college and had afterward relocated to Canada.
- Sidhu Moose Wala ran for the Punjab assembly in this year’s election on a Congress ticket from Mansa but was beaten by AAP candidate Vijay Singla by 63,000 votes.

- Sanskrit scholar and Bhagirath Prasad Tripathi ‘Vagish Shastri’ has died here after a prolonged illness.
- He was 86.
About Bhagirath Prasad Tripathi:
- Shastri was awarded the title of ‘Mahamahopadhyaya’ by the Kashi Pandit Parishad in 1982.
- He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2018 and the President’s Award in 2013.
- Shastri had invented a unique technique of teaching Sanskrit grammar called ‘Vagyoga’, a mnemonic method to enter into the soul of words.
- Hundreds of scholars from all over the world learned Sanskrit from him in a very short time and made translations of Sanskrit texts in their languages.
- He authored several books.
- People would also come to him to learn meditation and kundalini awakening.
- In 2018, the Government of India awarded him the Padma Shri for his work in the field of literature & education.
