For the first time in India, researchers in the city have successfully 3D-printed an artificial cornea and transplanted it into a rabbit eye. This research was funded by a grant from the Department of Biotechnology and the translational work leading up to clinical trials in patients will be funded through a grant from Sree Padmavathi Venkateswara Foundation, Vijayawada.

Researchers from L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI), Indian Institute of Technology-Hyderabad (IITH), and the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) have collaborated to develop a 3D-printed cornea from the human donor corneal tissue.

The Odisha government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Institute of Ocean Technology for the protection of its coasts. The State Government is taking all possible measures for disaster mitigation and focusing on zero casualties. Digital financial services firm Paytm partnered with Samsung stores across India to facilitate smart payments as well as its loan service Paytm Postpaid through the deployment of point-of-sale devices.

The partnership will enable consumers purchasing Samsung devices — laptops, smartphones, television, smart watches, etc — from any authorized store in the country to pay through Paytm payment instruments, including UPI, wallet, buy now pay later scheme, debit cards, and credit cards.

Union Minister Jitendra Singh launched India’s first saline water lantern, which uses seawater to power LED lamps. The Minister said Saline Water Lantern will bring “Ease of Living” to the poor and needy, particularly the fishing community living along the 7500 Kilometres long coastal line of India.

According to the Ministry of Earth Science, Singh unveiled the first-of-its-kind lantern named “Roshni” during a visit to SAGAR ANVESHIKA, a Coastal Research Vessel, operated and used by the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), Chennai for coastal research.

On the occasion of the nation’s 76th year of Independence, celebrated as Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the State Bank of India (SBI), introduced a unique term deposit program called “Utsav Deposit.” This fixed deposit scheme has higher interest rates and is only available for a limited time.

SBI is offering an interest rate of 6.10% per annum on fixed deposits with a tenure of 1000 days. And senior citizens will be eligible to get an additional interest rate of 0.50% over and above the regular rate.

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has decided to launch new schemes on sanitation, nutrition, and the well-being of farmers, laborers, and the brave soldiers of the state on the 75th anniversary of India’s independence.

In his address at the 75th Independence Day event at the Manekshaw Parade Ground here, he stated a loan-cum-subsidy scheme up to ₹50,000 will be launched to support potters, blacksmiths, carpenters, sculptors, Bhajantri, basket weavers, Vishwakarmas, Madars, and other artisans.

The Border Road Organisation (BRO) has planned to construct a pilot road stretch in Arunachal Pradesh using steel slag, which can withstand heavy rains and adverse climatic conditions. The National Highways Authority India (NHAI) will also use the steel slag for the construction of a portion of the Mumbai-Goa highway.

The project has been initiated after the success of using 100 percent steel slag on a port connectivity road in Gujarat. The 1.2 km Hazira port connectivity stretch was a research and development (R&D) project carried out by CSIR-CRRI in collaboration with a major steel manufacturer and the Steel Ministry.

State-run Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam has signed a letter of intent (LoI) with the Rajasthan government to develop 10,000 megawatts (MW) of solar power projects in the state in the next five years. The investment is estimated at ₹50,000 crores.

The commercial production will commence in a phased manner and the power generated will be transmitted through the nearest sub-Stations. The power purchase agreement (PPAs) for generated energy will be signed through competitive tariff-based opportunities available in the market.

The members of the Village Defence Committee in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch celebrated receiving ‘permanent status’ under the Village Defence Guards Scheme (VDGS). The VDGS-2022 came into effect after the Ministry of Home Affairs sanctioned approval for its creation in Jammu and Kashmir.

This scheme was known as Village Defence Committee in which volunteers from villages were trained by the Indian Army and Police. Under this scheme, rifles were provided to VDC’s and they protected their villages from terrorist attacks and terror-related activities especially the vulnerable villages in mountainous areas of the Jammu region.

British writer Nicholas Evans, who authored the international best-selling novel “The Horse Whisperer”, died at the age of 72. Evans, born in 1950 in western England, worked as a journalist in both print and broadcasting, before shifting into other television work and then novel writing.

It chronicles the story of a trainer hired to help an injured teenager and her horse back to health after an injury and sold more than 15 million copies worldwide becoming a number one bestseller in 20 countries.

India may become a USD five trillion economy by 2028-29 only if the GDP grows at nine percent per annum consistently for the next five years, former RBI Governor D Subbarao stated.

He cautioned that the state and union government must realize that, the country does not have surplus budgets and while some safety net is sorely needed. They must be cautious and selective on what freebies to be given from borrowed money and future generations should not be burdened with the unnecessary debt burden.

Section 248 of the Companies Act, 2013 (the Act) provides for the removal of the name of the company from the Register of Companies if it is not carrying on any business or operation for a period of 2 immediately preceding financial years.

According to the reply, a total of 2,26,166 companies were struck off in the financial year 2017-18, 1,12,797 firms in 2018-19, 43,912 in 2019-20, Nil in 2020-21, and 49,921 entities 2021-22.

India will start supplying petrol with 20 percent ethanol at select petrol pumps from April next year and will ramp up supplies thereafter as it looks to cut oil import dependence and address environmental issues. Oil Minister Hardeep Puri stated a fifth of petrol will be made up of ethanol by 2025.

India, which achieved the target of supplying petrol mixed with 10 percent ethanol (10 percent ethanol, 90 percent petrol) ahead of schedule in June this year, has advanced the target of making petrol with 20 percent ethanol by five years to 2025. India is the world’s fifth largest producer of ethanol after the US, Brazil, EU, and China.

The Sultan Azlan Shah Cup has been part of the International Hockey Federation’s (FIH) calendar every year since 2003. The invitational tournament is named after Malaysia’s former FIH executive board member Sultan Azlan Shah.
