  • National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and JCB International, along with domestic banks, have launched RuPay JCB Global Cards.
  • Banks including State Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, Axis Bank, Union Bank of India, Central Bank of India, Andhra Bank, City Union Bank, and TJSB Bank will issue these cards, which will be accepted in India at all POS terminals and ATMs that accept JCB cards.
  • It will be accepted in India at all Point Of Sale (POS) terminals and Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) that accept JCB cards.

  • Andhra Pradesh became the first state to reserve jobs for local youth after the assembly passed the Andhra Pradesh Employment of Local Candidates in Industries/Factories Act, 2019, which reserves 75 per cent jobs in industrial units, factories, joint ventures and projects set up under public-private partnership mode.
  • Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy had promised to provide quota in local jobs during his ‘padyatra’ in the state. It was also an election promise.
  • While the step is positive in that it promotes local hiring, the state will also have to focus on skill development of the youth to ensure their employability.

  • The Supreme Court extended the deadline for publication of final National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam by a month to August 31 while rejecting the pleas seeking permission for 20 per cent sample re-verification.
  • The Centre and the Assam government sought permission for sample re-verification to find out wrongful inclusions and exclusions of persons in the NRC.
  • The National Register of Citizens (NRC) for the state of Assam has been taken as the exercise to enumerate citizens in Assam. The exercise aims at identifying illegal immigrants in the state of Assam that borders Bangladesh.

  • The IMF projected a slower growth rate for India in 2019 and 2020, a downward revision of 0.3 per cent for both the years.

  • Bharatmala program will be funded through cess, toll revenue, market borrowings, private sector participation, insurance fund, pension funds, masala bonds, and other initiatives and the LIC credit line was one such initiative(bonds).
  • LIC offered Rs 25,000 crore in a year and Rs 1.25 trillion in five years for highways construction.
  • The budget allocation for Road Transport and Highways ministry has also increased by about Rs 5,000 crore.

  • Vodafone’s mobile phone-based banking service M-Pesa has shut down operations in India with effect from July 15.

  • This year, ranked 106, Reliance Industries (RIL) has replaced IOC (117) as the top-ranked Indian company on the Global 500 list.
  • US giant Walmart continues to top the Fortune 500 list followed by Chinese state-owned oil and gas company Sinopec Group, which moved one rank up. Dutch company Royal Dutch Shell was ranked third followed by China National Petroleum and State Grid.

  • Maharashtra reported 233 cases of ATM fraud in 2018-19, the highest in the entire country, Reserve Bank Of India (RBI) data.
  • The data showed that Delhi grabbed the second spot with 179 cases, followed by Tamil Nadu with 147 cases of ATM fraud.
  • In Maharashtra, people lost Rs 4.8 crore to bank fraud, while in Delhi people lost Rs 2.9 crore. The country witnessed an increase in ATM fraud cases in general (up from 911 to 980).
  • Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura were the only three states that didn’t report a single incident. However, the money lost came down from Rs 65.3 crore in 2017-18 to Rs 21.4 crore in 2018-19.
