The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of India (GoI) signed an agreement for a $295 million loan to upgrade around 265 kilometre state highways with climate and disaster-resilient design, and road safety elements in Bihar. The project supports the Government of Bihar’s programme to upgrade all state highways to standard two-lane widths and improve road safety. The improved roads will enhance connectivity in some of Bihar’s poorest rural districts and promote access to health and education facilities, and markets to improve people’s lives.

The Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has introduced Jeevan Kiran, a new plan that offers life cover with the return of premium. The plan is a non-linked and non-participating, individual, savings, life insurance plan. The plan is for customers desiring high life cover at a reasonable cost. The plan is available for young people starting at age 18 and till age 65. The plan has a minimum Sum Assured of Rs 15 lakh for moderate life cover. The policy term varies from 10 years to 40 years.

When the House met after the first adjournment at Noon, Union Coal and Mines Minister Pralhad Joshi moved the Bill into the House. The 10th meeting of the Sub Committee on Military Cooperation between India and Malaysia was held in New Delhi.The Indian delegation was led by Joint Secretary (International Cooperation), Ministry of Defence Shri Amitabh Prasad, while the Malaysian side was headed by Assistant Chief of Staff, Defence Operations and Training Division Maj Gen Dato’ Khairul Anuar bin Abd Aziz. Akashvani Jammu Correspondent reports that in Poonch district, eight crore rupees were transferred to the bank accounts of as many as 37 thousand farmers under Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojna. In the Samba district, 3.69 crore rupees were transferred to the bank accounts of as many as 17,942 farmers. The farmers of other districts also received their 14th instalment under the scheme. The farmers expressed happiness after receiving the instalment.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has given its approval for the appointment of N S Vishwanathan as the non-executive (part-time) chairman of the bank for a 3-year term. NS Vishwanathan’s role as the chairman will become effective from October 27, 2023, or from the date of approval by the Reserve Bank of India, whichever comes first. In addition to his role at Axis Bank, Vishwanathan currently serves as the non-executive chairman of the Governing Council at the Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology, Hyderabad, as also of the Academic Council of the College of Supervisors, RBI, Mumbai.
