11 September – National Forest Martyrs Day

National Forest Martyrs Day is marked on September 11.
The day as the name suggests is observed to pay tributes to those who laid down their lives to protect the jungles, forests, and wildlife across India.

HISTORY

After the Ministry of Environment and Forest made the declaration, this day officially came into existence and it was in the year 2013.
The ministry selected this date (11 September) because, on this day in 1730, the Khejarli massacre took place in the country.
On the orders of the then king Maharaja Abhay Singh of Rajasthan, the soldiers started cutting trees to provide wood for a new palace.
During that time, a woman identified as Amrita Devi offered her head instead of the sacred Khejarli tree.
Angry over the act, people in that village rose in protest and offered their lives in place of trees.
After beheading her, the soldiers went on to slaughter over 350 people including Amrita’s children. On hearing this massacre, the shocked king instantly ordered his soldiers to spot killing the people and apologized to those who belonged to the Bishnoi community.
Along with his apology, King Maharaja Abhay Singh made a declaration stating that no cutting of trees and killing of animals will take place in areas that are around the Bishnoi villages.

World First Aid Day

World First Aid Day is celebrated every year on the second Saturday of September.
This year, World First Aid Day falls on September 10.
It is celebrated to raise public awareness of how First Aid can save thousands of lives in everyday crises.

History

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) established World First Aid Day in 2000.
Henry Dunant, a young Geneva trader, endured terrible suffering and torment on June 24, 1859, during the battle of Solferino.
Nevertheless, the man helped build temporary hospitals and acquired the equipment and materials they required.
His 1863 book- A Memory of Solferino served as the impetus for the creation of the International Committee of the Red Cross
According to the book, Dunant suggested establishing a separate group that would offer prompt assistance to soldiers who were injured.
He is regarded as a co-founder of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), which was established after his articles went viral.

Grandparents’ Day- 11 September

Grandparents’ Day is celebrated each year on the first Sunday after Labour Day.
This year it falls on September 11.
To mark this day by remembering the contribution of our grandparents to our lives.

History:

The story starts with a 9-year-old boy, Russell Capper, who sent a letter to President Richard Nixon in 1969.
The letter, reportedly, asked the president to set aside a day to celebrate the presence of grandparents.
In 1977, senators passed a joint resolution to the senate and requested the president to set aside a National Grandparents’ Day.
Congress passed the resolution.
In 1978, President Jimmy Carter signed the proclamation.
The first National Grandparents’ Day was celebrated on September 10, 1978.

NITI Aayog and WRI launched India’s first National Electric Freight Platform- E-FAST India:

The World Resources Institute (WRI) and NITI Aayog introduced E-FAST India (Electric Freight Accelerator for Sustainable Transport-India), the country’s first national electric freight platform
With the assistance of the World Economic Forum, CALSTART, and RMI India, several stakeholders are brought together through the National Electric Freight Platform.
The platform’s goal is to increase public awareness of freight electrification, supported by a ground-level demonstration pilot and research that is supported by data.
It would help scale experiments and provide information for initiatives meant to hasten India’s freight electrification.
Participating in the launch of E-Fast India were significant players in the automotive, logistics, development banking, and fintech industries.
It will aid in fortifying the collaboration and in identifying and promoting freight solutions.

Rajasthan launches 100-day urban employment guarantee scheme

Rajasthan chief minister Shri Ashok Gehlot launched the ‘Indira Gandhi Urban Employment Scheme’ at the Ambedkar Bhawan, Jaipur, Rajasthan.

Aim :

To provide 100 days of employment to needy families in urban areas on the lines of the rural employment guarantee scheme Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).
The Government of Rajasthan has allocated Rs 800 crore for the scheme.

About ‘Indira Gandhi Urban Employment Scheme’ :

More than 2.25 lakh families have already registered for the scheme.
The scheme would cover works like environment protection, water and heritage conservation, garden maintenance, removing encroachments, illegal sign boards, hoardings, banners, Sanitation, cleanliness, etc.
People from the age group of 18 to 60 are eligible for the scheme.
Payments will be made in the bank accounts of the beneficiary within 15 days.

Other welfare projects :

The Rajasthan Government had made treatment free under the Chiranjeevi scheme.
He also highlighted the government’s initiative to open Mahatma Gandhi English Medium schools to provide education to children in English, and a scheme to distribute free sanitary napkins to women

Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma launches Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act online portal

Meghalaya Chief Minister Shri Conrad K Sangma has launched the online portal of the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act (MRSSA) 2016.

Aim :

To ensure the safety and security of the residents, gathering intelligence inputs and to better the process of delivery of numerous government services.

Salient features of the online system:

The digitization process would connect more than 6,000 villages and localities across Meghalaya to the online system.
Electoral Picture Identity Card (EPIC) is being used to identify the landlord
The web application has been designed and developed to enable the landlords, tenants, and local authorities of the localities and sub-localities to register and enter the details of the residents (i.e., landlords/tenants’) rental units as a provision in Form B of the Act.
The ‘Dorbar Shnongs’ (traditional village institution of the village) have also been adopted for the security of the residents in their respective localities.

The Government of Meghalaya has introduced the Meghalaya Resident Safety and Security Act (MRSSA) 2016.
To ensure & enhance the security of the citizens of the state by making a careful and thorough examination of tenants residing in Meghalaya.
To implement the Act, the state government in collaboration with National Informatics Centre (NIC) has taken the initiative to design and develop an online application.
The implementation of the Act will prevent anti-social elements from gaining shelter.

WAAREE, India’s largest Solar Panel manufacturer, has entered into an Agreement with the State Bank of India (SBI) for Solar Projects.
It allows WAAREE to receive unsecured financing for solar projects through Surya Shakti Solar Finance Scheme & provide working capital for Channel Partners under EDFS (Electronic dealer finance scheme).

SEBI gives in-principle approval to Helios Capital to launch mutual fund business

Helios Capital Management PTE Limited Founder Mr. Samir Arora has received in-principle approval for mutual funds (MF) from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).
Helios Capital, which is the business of portfolio management services, applied for a mutual fund license with the SEBI in February 2021.
He was the Chief Investment Officer of Alliance Capital’s Indian mutual fund business.
Arora quit Alliance Capital Mutual Fund after 19 years and is now looking to enter the Rs 37 trillion Indian mutual fund industry.
Recently, SEBI granted in-principle licenses for mutual fund forays to Zerodha Broking, Bajaj Finserv, and Frontline Capital Services.

Vehicle Dispatches Rise 21% As Chip Supply Improves:

According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, increased semiconductor supply and seasonal demand led to a 21% yearly surge in passenger car wholesales in India in August.
According to the most recent information provided by the industry group Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), deployments of passenger vehicles (PVs) to dealers were 2,81,210 units in August 2018 compared to 2,32,224 units in August 2021.
According to SIAM, wholesale sales of passenger cars increased by 23% last month to 1,33,477 units from 1,08,508 units in the same time the previous year.
In August, utility vehicle dispatches increased by 20% to 1,35,497 units from 1,12,863 units in the same month a year prior.
Similarly, total two-wheeler wholesales grew by 16% last month to 15,57,429 units from 13,38,740 units in the same time the previous year.

Singapore awarded the ‘Meritorious Service Medal’ to Sunil Lanba, Former Navy Chief of India:

Admiral Sunil Lanba, a former chief of the naval staff of India, has received the Pingat Jasa Gemilang (Tentera), also known as the Meritorious Service Medal (Military) (MSM(M)), from President Halimah Yacob.
The award was given to Admiral Lanba in recognition of his excellent efforts to strengthen the long-standing bilateral defense ties between the Indian Navy and the Republic of Singapore Navy.

Hindi writer Dr. Asghar Wajahat awarded with 31st Vyas Samman:

Well-known Hindi author Dr. Asghar Wajahat received the 31st Vyas Samman at a ceremony in New Delhi.
For his play Mahabali, he has been given the coveted honor.
Wajahat centers his drama Mahabali on the poet Tulsidas and the Mughal emperor Akbar.
He tries to determine if Mahabali the poet or Mahabali the monarch is the actual Mahabali via the play.
The K K Birla Foundation awards the Vyas Samman for exceptional Hindi literature written by an Indian citizen and published during the previous ten years.
It comes with a plaque, a citation, and a prize worth Rs.4 lakhs.
The Initiation took place in 1991.
In 1991, Ram Vilas Sharma’s book “Bharat ke Pracheen Bhasha Parivar aur Hindi” earned him the first Vyas Samman.
The 30th Vyas Samman was given to Professor Sharad Pagare in recognition of his book, “Patliputra ki Samragi.”

Mr. Volker Turk appointed as the new UN High Commissioner for Human Rights

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres appointed Mr. Volker Turk of Austria as the next United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, following approval by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
He replaces Mr. Verónica Michelle Bachelet Jeria, a Chilean politician who served at the office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) from 2018 to 2022.

The 113 members of Parliament (MPs) approved the proposal.

Gervais Ndirakobuca was born in 1970 in Bukinanyana in the Cibitoke Province of Burundi
He is a Burundian former rebel commander and police commissioner.

He joined the National Police of Burundi and rose to the rank of Commissioner (lieutenant-general).

US Military Successfully Tests Minuteman III Intercontinental Ballistic Missile

The Air Force Global Strike Command Airmen launched an unarmed LGM-30G Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) equipped with 3 test re-entry vehicles from the Vandenberg Space Force Base in California
It will be the second such US nuclear defense drill in less than a month after the launch of Minuteman III ICBM in Aug 2022.

About Minuteman III ICBM :

The LGM-30 Minuteman is an American land-based ICBM in service with the Air Force Global Strike Command.
The Minuteman III has been in service for 50 years and is currently the only land-based ICBM in the US nuclear arsenal.
The missiles are housed in silos on three US military bases in Wyoming, North Dakota, and
The US arsenal also includes Trident submarine-launched ballistic missiles and nuclear weapons carried by strategic bomber aircraft.
In 1970, Minuteman III became the first deployed ICBM with multiple independently targetable reentry vehicles (MIRV).

Indian rocket maker Agnikul Cosmos gets patent for single-piece 3D printed rocket engines

Indian space-tech startup AgniKul Cosmos Private Limited has secured a patent from the Central government, for the design and manufacturing of single-piece rocket engines using 3D printing technology.
Agnilet, one such single-piece engine, is the world’s first single-piece 3D printed rocket engine fully designed and manufactured in India, it was successfully test-fired in early 2021.
Since 2019, Agnikul has raised a total funding of Rs 105 crore ($15 million) from Mayfield India, pi Ventures, Speciale Invest, and a host of others including prominent angels such as Anand Mahindra and Naval Ravikant.

As part of the third National Lok Adalat of 2022, the State Legal Services Authorities of Rajasthan and Maharashtra launched the Digital Lok Adalat in the respective states.
Rajasthan and Maharashtra became the first states to use end-to-end digital platforms during the third National Lok Adalat of the year that saw 75 lakh cases settled across India including 45 lakh pending and 58.33 lakh pre-litigation cases.

It was launched by the National Legal Services Authority Chairman and Supreme Court judge, Justice Shri Uday Umesh Lalit during the ’18th All India Legal Services Authorities’ meet held in Jaipur in July 2022.

According to Fortune India’s list of “India’s Richest” for 2022, there are 142 billionaires living in India, and their combined fortune is estimated to be worth USD 832 billion (Rs 66.36 trillion).
The first list, created in partnership with the wealth management company Waterfield Advisors, is mostly based on the wealth of the owners of publicly traded companies.
Gautam Adani, the richest man in Asia, has surpassed Jeff Bezos, the creator of Amazon, to reach the third spot on Forbes’ real-time list of billionaires.

Australia Captain Aaron Finch to Retire from ODI Cricket:

Australia’s captain, Aaron Finch, announced his retirement from one-day international cricket following Australia’s third and final ODI against New Zealand.
Finch will continue to captain the Australian T20 squad and will lead it in the defense of its global championship in the T20 World Cup, which will be contested in Australia in October and November.
Finch is regarded as one of the most dangerous opening batsmen in the world, having amassed 5,401 runs in ODIs with an average of over 40 and 17 hundred.
