  • International Human Solidarity Day is observed on December 20 to celebrate the unity in diversity and raise awareness about the importance of solidarity.

  • Centre has exempted Handicraft and Geographical Indications toys from Quality Control Order. Order will come into effect from 1st January next year.

  • Himgiri, which is the first of the three Project 17A ships being built at Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited (GRSE),Kolkata was launched on December 14.
  • The government of Maharashtra’sUnified Development Control and Promotion Regulations (UDCPR) are expected to bolster real estate development.
  • Prime Minister NarendraModi laid the foundation stone of the world’s largest renewable solar and wind energy 30,000 megawatts (MW) Ultra Mega Hybrid Park in Gujarat’s Kutch.
  • The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has set up a dedicated Space Situational Awareness (SSA) Control Centre, at its ISTRAC campus at Peenya, Bangalore.

  • Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways and MSMEs NitinGadkari has stated that the Government has finalised GPS-based(Global Positioning System) technology toll collection to ensure seamless movement of vehicles across the country.
  • The Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad has become the first zoo in the country to receive the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Standards Certification from the Accreditation Services for Certification Bodies (ASCB), UK.
  • The Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad has also become the first zoo in the country to get ISO certificate.
  • Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik launched ‘Pareshram’ Portal along with 22 online services of Labour and Employees State Insurance Department.
  • Road Transport and Highways Minister NitinGadkari will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for 33 highway projects in Karnataka.
  • Skill India has established the first Centre of Excellence for Skill Development in the Power Sector in the campus of National Institute of Solar Energy, Gurugram Haryana.

  • The State of the Education Report for India 2020: Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), was launched virtually by UNESCO New Delhi.

  • In Uttar Pradesh,the  government has  launched a special campaign to curb property & land-related disputes in rural areas.
  • A mega leather park will come up in Ramaipur village of Kanpur with an investment of Rs 5,850 crores. The park which is part of the mega leather cluster project is likely to create 50,000 jobs, for 5 lakh people.

CURRENT AFFAIRS: BANKING & FINANCE

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has decided to set up an Automated Banknote Processing Centre(ABPC) in Jaipur.
  • Rating agency CRISIL has lowered the contraction rate of India’s GDP, and now expects the growth rate of Indian economy to contract 7.7% in the ongoing fiscal 2020-21, compared to the 9% forecast in September 2020, due to faster-than-expected recovery in the second quarter.
  • IFSCA has notified International Financial Services Centres Authority Regulations 2020
  • Coming out with corrected Doing Business rankings following review of data irregularities, the World Bank has announced that China’s ranking would have been lower by seven notches in the index for 2018.
  • The World Bank has approved 4 india projects worth $800 million to support development initiatives.
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a monetary penalty of ₹00 lakh on The Urban Co-operative Bank Ltd in Kerala.
  • S&P Global Ratings has raised India’s growth projection for the current fiscal to (-) 7.7 % from (-) 9 % estimated earlier.
  • Department of Posts and India Post Payments Bank unveiled a new digital payment app DakPay on December 15, 2020.
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the re-appointments of UdayKotak as MD & CEO of Kotak Mahindra Bank for further three years, with effect from January 1, 2021.
  • India’s GDP growth is expected to be at (-) 7.4 per cent in FY21 on better than projected recovery, stated a SBI research report, upgrading its earlier forecast of (-) 10.9 per cent.
  • Domestic rating agency ICRA Ratings expects the technical recession in the country’s economy to end in the fourth quarter of the current fiscal, limiting the contraction to 8% in the financial year 2021.

  • The SoftBank-backed firm Ola Electric has announced a Rs 2,400-crore ($320 million) investment plan to set up, what it calls, the ‘world’s largest’ electric scooter (e-scooter) manufacturing plant in Hosur, Tamil Nadu.

  • Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy Research has signed anMoU with cGanga, a think-tank of National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) for development of sludge management framework in India.
  • The Government of India and the World Bank have signed a 400 million dollar project to protect India’s poor and vulnerable from the impact of COVID-19.
  • The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of India signed a $300 million loan to upgrade rural power distribution networks to provide reliable electricity supply to consumers in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

  • The 35th edition of India-Indonesia Coordinated Patrol (IND-INDO CORPAT) between the Indian Navy and the Indonesian Navy will be conducted between December 17 and 18.

  • India has been ranked 131 among 189 countries in the 2020 human development index, according to a report released by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
