U.S. to pull out of Open Skies treaty
- The United States stated it would withdraw from the 35-nation Open Skies treaty allowing unarmed surveillance flights over member countries, the Trump administration’s latest move to pull the country out of a major global treaty.
World Bank approves USD 500 million loan for Pakistan
- The World Bank has restored Pakistan’s budgetary support after four years and approved a policy loan of USD 500 million to help the cash-strapped country mitigate adverse impact of the coronavirus pandemic, according to a media report.
India builds state-of-the-art training facility for Ugandan defence forces
- The Indian Association Uganda (IAU), in association with the Indian Military Advisory and Training Team there, handed over a state-of-the-art military training facility to Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF). The war game centre, named ‘INDIA’, was inaugurated by Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda, the Army stated.
UAE-based Secure Cam to launch surveillance campaign in India
- Secure Cam IT Solutions, UAE-based security surveillance and IT solutions, has plans to install around 10,000 cameras for free in one city of about 150 countries by 2025 as part of the $1.5-billion worldwide campaign announced in October last.
US joins G7 artificial intelligence group to counter China
- The United States (US) has joined an international panel for setting ethical guidelines for the use of artificial intelligence. The Trump administration had earlier dismissed the idea.
Switzerland launches first app based on Google, Apple’s Exposure Notification API
- Switzerland has launched the world’s first app that utilised the Exposure Notification API developed by Apple and Google. The app called “SwissCovid” is currently available to members of the Swiss army, civil servants, and hospital workers.

- United States President Donald Trump has announced that America is terminating its relationship with World Health Organization over its handling of the Corona virus. He blamed WHO and China for the deaths and destruction caused by the COVID-19 pandemic across the globe.
IMF approves 732 million emergency assistance to Bangladesh for COVID-19
- The IMF Executive Board approved an emergency financial assistance worth dollar 732 million for Bangladesh to address the COVID-19 pandemic in the country. The IMF stated that the assistance has been approved for Bangladesh to meet its urgent Balance of payment and fiscal needs as Corona pandemic has led to sharp decline in its exports and income from remittances.

BSE launches eKYC services on StAR MF platform
- BSE StAR MF has launched BSE eKYC services based on Aadhaar and Video KYC.
- Open for onboarding mutual fund investors initially, it will be opened to stock brokers and other approved intermediaries. It will soon issue APIs for stock brokers and other intermediaries to connect their IT systems to BSE’s eKYC system
ADB signs 177 million dollars loan to upgrade major roads, highways in Maharashtra

- Tamil Nadu signed 17 MoUs with various companies involving investments totalling15,128 crore.

PFC signs MoU with NBPCL to fund 225 MW hydro-electric projects, Multipurpose projects in MP
- Power Finance Corporation (PFC), the central PSU under the Ministry of Power and India’s leading NBFC, signed an agreement with Narmada Basin Projects Company Ltd. (NBPCL), a wholly-owned company of Government of Madhya Pradesh, to fund projects worth 22,000 crore for 225 MW hydro-electric projects & multipurpose projects in the State of Madhya Pradesh.

CSIR-IIIM & Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) to develop RT-LAMP based test for Coronavirus
- CSIR-IIIM, Jammu a constituent laboratory of CSIR has partnered with Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) to develop and scale-up a new Reverse Transcriptase-Loop Mediated Isothermal Amplification (RT-LAMP) based COVID-19 diagnostic kit for which a formal MOU has also been signed between CSIR-IIIM, Jammu and RIL.
