  • India has achieved a significant milestone in the 2024 Network Readiness Index (NRI) by jumping 11 places from 60th in 2023 to 49th in 2024, with an improved score of 63.
  • Forbes has revealed its 2024 ranking of the World’s 100 Most Powerful Women, celebrating influential figures from business, entertainment, politics, philanthropy, and policymaking.

  • The Ministry of Defence (MoD) signed a contract with Larsen & Toubro (L&T) for the procurement of 155 mm/52 calibre K9 VAJRA-T Self-Propelled Tracked Artillery Guns for the Indian Army.
  • The Indian defense sector’s push for self-reliance continues, with a focus on reducing dependence on imports, especially in light of global conflicts such as the Russia-Ukraine war.
  • Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh launched the Rashtraparv Website and Mobile App on December 25, 2024, which coincided with Good Governance Day.
  • The bilateral naval exercise between India and Sri Lanka is named SLINEX 24 (Sri Lanka – India Exercise 2024).
  • The 18th edition of Exercise SURYA KIRAN involves the participation of Indian and Nepalese Army contingents.
  • INS Tushil arrived at Casablanca, Morocco on 27th December 2024 as part of strengthening bilateral relations and naval cooperation between India and Morocco.
  • The Indian Navy received two warships: the destroyer Yard 12707 (Surat) and the frigate Yard 12651 (Nilgiri), marking a significant step towards self-reliance (Aatmanirbharta) in defense.

  • Chinese astronauts Cai Xuzhe and Song Lingdong set a new world record for the longest single spacewalk on December 20, 2024.
  • Nafithromycin is India’s first indigenous Macrolide antibiotic, developed by Wockhardt with support from the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC).
  • China’s first atmospheric monitoring station in Antarctica, the Zhongshan National Atmospheric Background Station, began operations.
  • Of the total 24 PS4-Orbital Experiment Module (POEM-4) payloads which will be flown onboard the PSLV-C60 SpaDeX mission, 4 have been developed by Karnataka-based academia and start-ups.
  • Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the European Space Agency (ESA) have signed an agreement to collaborate on astronaut training, mission implementation, and research experiments.
  • India is expected to achieve its first orbital launch in 2025.

  • The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is preparing to launch its PSLV Orbital Experimental Module-4 (POEM-4) mission, which includes experiments on living biological materials in space.

  • Rohan Mirchandani, co-founder of Epigamia, passed away on December 21 at the age of 42 due to a cardiac arrest.
  • Shyam Benegal, the renowned Indian filmmaker, passed away at the age of 90 in Mumbai.
  • T. Vasudevan Nair, one of India’s greatest writers of all time, died in Kozhikode at the age of 91.
  • Osamu Suzuki, the long-serving leader of Suzuki Motor Corporation, passed away on December 25, 2024, at the age of 94.
  • Hafiz Abdul Rahman Makki, deputy chief of Pakistan-based terrorist group Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD), died due to a heart attack in Lahore.
