  • Global Parents Day Observed on June 01. “Appreciate all parents throughout the world” is the theme of global parents’ day 2021.
  • World Milk Day Observed on June 01. It is an international day established by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations to recognize the importance of milk as a global food.
  • Telangana Day commonly known as Telangana Formation Day Observed On June 02.
  • In April 2018, the United Nations General Assemblydeclared June 3 as International World Bicycle Day.
  • International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression is a United Nations observance held on June 4 every year. 
  • World Environment Day is celebrated annually on 5 June and is the United Nations’ principal vehicle for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of the environment.
  • The UN General Assembly declared 5 June as the “International Day for the Fight Against Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing.
  • World Day against Speciesismis marked on June 5 every year, to stop discrimination based on species membership.
  • World Pest Day, also known as World PestAwareness Day, is observed on June 6 every year. The objective behind celebrating this day is to create awareness of how pest management helps preserve the quality of life for people.
  • UN Russian Language Dayis observed annually on June 6. The event was established by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2010.
  • World Food Safety Dayis observed every year on June7 to draw attention and inspire action to prevent, detect and manage food borne risks. This year’s theme, ‘Safe food today for a healthy tomorrow’, stresses that production and consumption of safe food has immediate and long-term benefits for people, the planet and the economy.

  • Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar introduces Horticulture Cluster Development Programme. It was implemented by the National Horticulture Board (NHB) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare
  • Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar (IIT Ropar) in Punjab has developed a first-of-its-kind IoT device – AmbiTag that records real-time ambient temperature during the transportation of perishable products, vaccines and even body organs and blood.
  • The Union Ministry of Women and Child Development stated the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has devised an online tracking portal “Bal Swaraj (COVID-Care link)” for children in need of care and protection.
  • Aimed at empowering small and marginal farmers, who constitute 86 per cent of India’s farming community, the Common Services Centres (CSC) has unveiled a unique Agri Services Portal that will act as a one-stop destination and marketplace for them.
  • Union Minister of State (I/C) for Ports, Shipping & Waterways Shri Mansukh Mandaviya in the presence of Chief Minister of Goa Shri Pramod Sawant inaugurated the second floating jetty at Old Goa virtually on the occasion of Goa statehood day.
  • The Health Minister has launched the revamped Central Government Health Scheme, CGHS and the Umbrella schemes of Rashtriya Arogya Nidhi, RAN and Health Minister’s Discretionary Grant, HMDG on NHA’s platform, making them cashless, paperless and the citizen centric.
  • The group of ministers was constituted after several member states of the council, such as West Bengal and Punjab asked for exempting GST on all Covid-essential materials.
  • The WHO has advised against using location-based terms for variants, and has designated an official name for the variantfirst detected in India: B.1.617.
  • The Union Cabinet has approved the draft of Model Tenancy Act (MTA) for adoption and enactment by States and Union Territories to promote rental housing in the country.
  • Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar launched Seed MinikitProgramme by distributing Seed Minikits, higher yielding varieties of seeds to farmers.
  • The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment will launch Senior care Ageing Growth Engine (SAGE) project to select, support and create a “one-stop access” of elderly care products and services by credible start-ups.
  • To ensure free and fair elections in the country and maximize the electoral coverage, the Election Commission of India has made a series of recommendations to the Law Ministry including cancellation of candidature & increasing the imprisonment to 2 years in case of false affidavit by poll candidates.
  • India’s government will bring forward to 2023 from 2025 the possibility of fuel companies selling gasoline containing up to 20% of ethanol (E20), according to brokers and a publication in the country’s official gazette.
  • The ‘National AI Portal’ celebrated its first anniversary on May 28, 2021.
  • Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying announced integration of e Gopala App with UMANG platform so that 3.1 Crore users of Umang platform will get access to App.
  • Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas & Steel Shri Dharmendra Pradhan presided over a virtual ceremony in which a number of initiatives were launched to provide major fillip to the SATAT initiative, and help India leap ahead towards a greener.
  • The Centre has introduced a new system for processing of the Insurance claims provided under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Package (PMGKP) Insurance Scheme for the Health Workers Fighting COVID-19.
  • The Centre has assured to include Tamil language in the CoWIN app facility after an appeal from Tamilnadu Chief Minister M.K.Stalin.
  • The Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ announced that the government has decided to extend the validity period of the Teachers Eligibility Test (TET)qualifying certificate from 7 years to lifetime with retrospective effect from 2011. 
  • Union Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs Shri Anurag Singh Thakur launched the six modules of short films of Investor Education & Protection Fund Authority (IEPFA) titled “Hisaab Ki Kitaab”.

  • Mali’s constitutional court declared AssimiGoita, the colonel who led a military coup while serving as vice president, to be the new interim president.
  • Isaac Herzog is a former head of Israel’s Labor Partyand opposition leader who unsuccessfully ran against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the 2013 parliamentary elections.
  • The World Health Organization (WHO) has approved China’s Sinovac Covid vaccine for emergency use. It is the second Chinese vaccine to receive the green light from the WHO, after Sinopharm.
  • The core of the Sun burns at 15 million degrees Celsius by nuclear fusion of hydrogen nuclei into helium, but now scientists have designed an ‘Artificial Sun’ on Earth that has sustained a temperature of 120 million degrees Celsius. 
  • Heidelberg Cement announced its intention to upgrade its plant on the Swedish island of Gotland to become the world’s first carbon-neutral cement plant.

  • Punjab Social Security Minister Aruna Chaudhary launched the women-empowerment oriented ‘Udaan Scheme’ on the occasion of International Menstrual Hygiene Day, under which sanitary pads of Rs 40.55 crore would be distributed free of cost annually to needy women and girls.
  • InKarnataka, the Health Department has launched Doctors ride towards village side programme. Under this scheme, the Government provides necessary logistic support for the teams led by medical students to visit villages and provide better healthcare during the pandemic.
  • Tamil Nadu Govt has introduced new plans for the celebration of Kaliagnar’s 97th birthday.
  • Union Minister for Food Processing Industries Narendra Singh Tomar, virtually inaugurated the Indus Best Mega Food Park, along with Bhupesh Baghel, Chief Minister, Chhattisgarh, and in presence of Rameswar Teli, Union Minister of State for Food Processing Industries.
  • Governor of Haryana, S N Arya, approved the Haryana Recovery of Damages to Property Bill. The “Haryana Recovery of Damages to Property During Disturbance to Public Order Bill, 2021” was passed in March 2021, a move similar to Uttar Pradesh government which had passed the “Uttar Pradesh Recovery of Damages to Public and Private Property Act, 2020. 
  • Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh RK Mathur launched the YounTab scheme for students and distributed 12,300 tablets among them virtually in Leh.
  • Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar took a major decision with the announcement of a 33% reservation for girls in engineering and medical colleges of the state.
  • Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao ordered a digital survey of agriculture lands in 27 select villages across the state on a pilot basis from June 11.
  • The Punjab cabinet gave its nod for the creation of a special purpose vehicle (SPV) for operations and maintenance of large multi-village surface water supply schemes across the state.
  • The Odisha Government has launched a doorstep delivery service for oxygen concentrators. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik stated that this will further strengthen the state’s preparedness against present and future waves of covid-19.
  • Goa Chief MinisterPramod Sawant launched solarbased electrification programme for rural households in the state. This project will bring electricity through renewable energy to areas in Goa where grid connectivity is not feasible.
  • The Maharashtra government has decided to implement the Maharashtra Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (MAPS) with the objective of providing employment and training to the youth of the state.

  • The RBI stated it has cancelled the licence of Shivajirao Bhosale Sahakari Bank, Pune as the lender does not have adequate capital and earning prospects.
  • HDFC Bank mentioned it has installed mobile ATMs across 50 cities in India, which can be used for over 15 transactions by customers.
  • The Asian Development Bank and the Government of India has signed a $2.5 million project readiness financing (PRF) loan to support project preparation and design activities to upgrade major district roads in Sikkim that will help improve connectivity to important towns, rural areas, and pilgrimage and tourist destinations in the northeastern state.
  • ICICI Bank announced that it has tied up with SWIFT to offer a facility that helps overseas partner banks to send instant remittances on behalf of their customers to the beneficiary in India.
  • To make available health insurance solutions to Shivalik’s customers across 31 branches.
  • Federal Bankhas launched a NR savings account scheme for the Seafarer segment. This scheme is curated and crafted for the mariners and offers services clubbed with digital banking platforms that allow the mariners to execute banking transactions without being affected by the geo coordinates and time zone differences.
  • The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has sanctioned Rs 254 crore to set up two mega piped drinking water supply projects in Odisha under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF).
  • Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced its bi-monthly monetary policy review as RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das in Monetary Policy statement.
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has extended the bank license of the Rupee Cooperative Bank for another three months until August 31, 2021.

  • One of the oldest crypto companies in India, ZebPay, launched a new lending platform for crypto asset exchange. ZebPaywill offer both open and fixed-term lending using the platform.
  • The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) cut its growth projection for India for FY22 to 9.9% from 12.6% estimated in March, as the second wave of coronavirus infections has paused economic recovery in Asia’s third largest economy.
  • Lucknow – based RDSO, which sets standards for the railway sector, has become the first standards body in the country to join the central government’s ‘One Nation, One Standard’ scheme that aims to ensure quality products to Indian consumers.
  • The State Bank of India (SBI) has revised India’s growth outlook downwards for the current financial year. The latest SBI Ecowrap report has projected a 7.9 percent growth for India’s GDP, down from its previous projection of 10.4 percent growth.
  • Tata Consultancy Services has launched TCS Pace Port Amsterdam, a co-innovation and advanced research center designed to help customers successfully navigate their growth and transformation journeys.
  • As many as 50,000 startups have been recognized by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT). Startup India is a flagship initiative of the government launched on January 16, 2016.

  • State-owned Canara Bank has appointed S K Majumdar as its chief financial officer (CFO) with immediate effect.
  • Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government over the repatriation of Chief Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee informed that Bandyopadhyay has retired and the Bengal government has appointed him as chief advisor to the CM for the next three years.

The 61-year-old actor mentioned that he was honoured to receive the prestigious visa “in the presence of Major General Mohammed Al Marri, Director General of General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) – Dubai”.
  • The authors made history by winning the prestigious International Business Book of the Year Award for 2021 for their recently launched book Transformation in Times of Crisis, published by Notion Press.

  • To empower farmers with advance information about the possible pink bollworm infestation in cotton fields so that they could take preventive and control measures, Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Wadhwani Institute for Artificial Learning, Mumbai, for providing AI-based interventions.
  • Leading stock exchange BSE stated it has joined hands with Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council (ESC) to create awareness about the benefits of listing among small businesses and startups.
  • Boxop, a Kerala-based startuphas tied up with Mahindra Insurance Brokers Ltd (MIBL) to provide low-cost insurance protection for the Covid-19 treatment.
  • The Union Cabinet approved a memorandum of cooperation with Japan in the field of sustainable urban development which is expected to create employment opportunities. The memorandum of cooperation (MoC) will be signed between the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, Japan in supersession of an existing MoU of 2007 on urban development.
  • The Union Cabinet was apprised of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India and Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, Government of Maldives on cooperation in the field of Sustainable Urban Development.
  • The Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) and the state government signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for forming a special purpose vehicle (SPV) for the operation and maintenance of the Rs 747-crore Water Metro project.
  • Add Engineering Gmbh, the parent company of ADD Engineering (India) Private Limited,  has signed an MoU with the UAE-based defence sector EDGE Group PUSC to share crucial technology to enhance production and improve efficiency of maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) in the defence aviation sector.
  • On the Occasion of World Environment Day celebrated on June 5, CII’s Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) and Indian Institute of Architects (IIA) signed a MoU to give a fillip to the Green Building Movement and sustainable development in architectural design and planning.
  • New Zealand announced it was the latest country to sign a spaceagreement with NASA, just as New Zealand’s nascent space industry begins to take off.

  • On June 04, 2021, INS Sandhayak, the Indian Navy’s oldest Hydrographic Survey Vessel was decommissioned at Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam.

  • A new AI-driven platform called ‘XraySetu’ has been developed with the help of Chest X-ray, to help in early detection of COVID 19. It can work with low-resolution images sent via mobiles, is quick and easy to use, and can facilitate detection in rural areas.
  • On June 04, 2021, The Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Shri ThaawarchandGehlot virtually launched the SAGE (Seniorcare Aging Growth Engine) initiative and SAGE portal for elderly persons.

  • On June 03, 2021, NITI Aayog launched the third edition of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) India Index and Dashboard 2020-21. Kerala retained  the top spot  in 2021 SDG India Index
  • Cognizant climbed to 185 on the 2021 Fortune 500 list with a digital focus driving the advancement of the annual ranking of America’s largest companies.
  • The US replaced Mauritius as the second largest source of foreign direct investment into India during 2020-21 with inflows of USD 13.82 billion, according to government data.

  • Indian heavyweight boxer Sanjeet Kumar won a gold medal in the 91 kg weight category at the ASBC Asian Boxing Championships. The 2021 Asian Amateur Boxing Championships was held from 24 to 31 May 2021 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
