  • World Wind Day also known as Global Wind Day is observed every year on 15 June It is organised by Wind Europe and GWEC.
  • World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is observed on June 15 every year to raise awareness about abuse and neglect of older persons and raising awareness of the cultural, social, economic, and demographic processes affecting elder abuse and neglect. The current theme of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is ‘Access to Justice’.
  • June 16th marks the annual International Day of Family Remittances (IDFR), which recognizes the financial contributions made by 250 million migrant workers to sustainable international development.
  • The World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought is a United Nations observance celebrated each year on 17 June. The theme of World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought 2021 is “Restoration. Land. Recovery”.
  • The UN General Assembly adopted on 21 December 2016 its resolution and designated 18 June as an international observance, Sustainable Gastronomy Day.
  • June 18th every year is International Picnic Day. The origins of this event are unknown, but it doesn’t dampen its popularity with many countries across the globe celebrating this event.
  • Autistic Pride Day is a pride celebration for autistic people held on June 18 each year. The theme for World Autistic Pride Day 2021 announced by the United Nations(UN) is “Inclusion in the Workplace: Challenges and Opportunities in a Post-Pandemic World”.
  • National Reading Day is celebrated to honour the father of the ‘Library Movement in Kerala’, the late PN Panicker, whose death anniversary is on June 19.
  • On June 19, the United Nations observes International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict to raise awareness about the need to eradicate and put a full stop to conflict-related sexual violence. This year’s theme for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is “Orange the World: Fund, Respond, Prevent, Collect!”.
  • World Sickle Cell Awareness Day is observed every year on June 19 to increase awareness and understanding of the disease and the challenges faced by its patients and their families. The World Sickle Cell Day 2021 Theme is ‘Shine the Light on Sickle Cell’.
  • World Sauntering Day is celebrated on June 19 every year. World Sauntering Day 2021 Theme is “The best remedy for a short temper is a long walk”.
  • World Refugee Day is an international day organized every year on 20 June by the United Nations. The theme of World Refugee Day 2021 is “Together we heal, learn and shine”.
  • Father’s Day is commemorated in most parts of the world on the third Sunday of June. This year it is being observed on June 20.
  • The International Day of Yoga has been celebrated annually on 21 June since 2015, following its inception in the United Nations General Assembly in 2014.
  • World Hydrography Day is celebrated every year on 21 June. The World Hydrography Day theme for 2021 is “100 years of international cooperation in hydrography”.
  • The Fête de la musique, also known in English as Music Day, Make Music Day or World Music Day, is an annual music celebration that takes place on 21 June.
  • The summer solstice, Observed on June 21. It is also known as festival solstice or midsummer, occurs when one of the Earth’s poles has its maximum tilt toward the Sun.

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated two centers of excellence established by the Border Roads Organization (BRO) at Seema Sadak Bhawan in New Delhi.
  • Centre has launched ‘Project O2 for India’ to step up production of medical oxygen to meet the potential increase in demand due to further waves of the pandemic. ‘Project O2 for India’, an initiative of the Office of Principal Scientific Adviser, Government of India (GoI).
  • PM Narendra Modi invited the world to invest in India while addressing the 5th edition of global tech event VivaTech via video conferencing.
  • Union Tribal Affairs Minister launches ‘Sankalp Se Siddhi-Mission Van Dhan’ & several other initiatives
  • The Union Home Ministry has operationalized the national helpline 155260 and reporting platform for preventing financial loss due to cyber fraud.
  • The Union Social Justice and Empowerment (SJE) Ministry launched 14 cross disability early intervention centres throughout the nation to offer assistance to infants and younger youngsters prone to or with disabilities.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a custom crash course programme that aims to skill and upskill over one lakh “Covid warriors” across the country.
  • Chief Election Commissioner, Shri Sushil Chandra along with Election Commissioner Shri Rajiv Kumar and Election Commissioner Shri Anup Chandra Pandey released ‘General Elections 2019 – An Atlas’ on June 15, 2021.

CURRENT AFFAIRS: INTERNATIONAL NEWS

  • Albania, Brazil, Gabon, Ghana and the United Arab Emirates were elected unopposed to the powerful UN Security Council as non-permanent members for the 2022-23 term.
  • A new free trade agreement with the UK will deliver more Australian jobs and business opportunities for exporters, bringing both countries closer together in a changing strategic environment.
  • The Asian Development Bank (ADB) approved a $250 million policy-based loan to the Government of Bangladesh to help finance reforms aimed at improving the inclusiveness and responsiveness of the country’s social development and resilience program.
  • Japan stated it will make a vaccine passport available from next month for Japanese travellers, as governments around the world experiment with ways to relaunch tourism and business trips.

CURRENT AFFAIRS: STATE NEWS

  • Telangana government had launched the Telangana AI Mission (T-AIM) powered by Nasscom and as part of the T-AIM an accelerator programme called Revv Up has been launched to enable and empower AI startups.
  • Raja Parba, a 3-day festival celebrating womanhood is being celebrated across Odisha.
  • The Rajasthan government will soon set up a Vedic Education and Sanskar Board to revive the knowledge of Sanskrit scriptures and Vedas.
  • The Asian Development Bank (ADB) stated, it has approved a USD 484-million loan to improve transport connectivity and road maintenance in the Chennai-Kanyakumari Industrial Corridor (CKIC) in Tamil Nadu.
  • The Haryana government announced a one-time payment of Rs 5,000 each to small shopkeepers, construction workers, auto-rickshaw drivers and unorganized labourers who have faced financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown.
  • West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee relaunched her government’s Krishak Bandhu scheme, doubling the assistance to farmer- beneficiaries to Rs 10,000 a year.
  • Punjab Sports and Youth Services Minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi launched a special Mobile App “Khedo Punjab” for putting the Sports Department and all the Sports persons of State of Punjab on Digital platform.
  • After launching YouTubelessons for college kids of Class IX and X, the state authorities launched e-Pathshala and e-Mulyankan amenities maintaining in thoughts disruption of lessons in the course of the ongoing pandemic.
  • Kerala will celebrate International Day of Yoga virtually by organizing various events. National Ayush Mission will organize a 12-hour virtual Yoga Session ‘Yogathon’ in the state. Quiz competitions and essay competitions on the theme Yoga will also be organized for school students.
  • Tamilnadu Chief Minister M.K.Stalin inaugurated Minnagam, a consumer grievance redressal centre in Chennai.
  • Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar launched two ambitious schemes christened as the ‘Mukhya Mantri Yuva Udyaymi Yojna’ and the ‘Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyami Yojna’ to promote entrepreneurship among youth and women of all sections under the state’s ‘Mukhaya Mantri Udyami Yojna’ scheme.

  • India’s retail inflation raced to 3% in May, breaching the upper limit of the central bank’s inflation target for the first time in six months and bringing further pressure on an economy whipped by the second wave of covid-19 infections.
  • The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) launched a TV Channel Selector web portal for consumers who could not access its mobile phone app of the same name due to lack of a smartphone.
  • Facebook has kicked off a new initiative to keep children safe on the internet. The ‘Report it, don’t share it’ campaign is being helmed by the social media giant in collaboration with Aarambh India Initiative, Cyber Peace Foundation, and Arpan.
  • Global advertising technology major, The Trade Desk announced the launch of operations in India and stated it has appointed Tejinder Gill as the Country General Manager.
  • Wipro announced that it has joined the World Economic Forum’s Partnership for New Work Standards initiative to establish a healthy, resilient and equitable future of work.

  • Ambuja Cement Foundation has joined hands with National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) for implementation of its employability through skill initiative project’s second phase.
  • Ujjivan Small Finance Bank stated it has collaborated with customer engagement platform MoEngage to drive digital banking experiences in the unserved and underserved regions of the country.
  • Bengaluru-based Navi General Insurance has introduced a monthly subscription (EMI) based insurance product instead of paying the annual premium upfront to make health insurance affordable.
  • The Reserve Bank of India stated the scope of Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) will be expanded by August 31 this year by adding ‘mobile prepaid recharges’ as a biller category, a move likely to help millions of prepaid phone subscribers in the country.
  • ICICI Bank launched ‘ICICI STACK for Corporates’, a comprehensive set of digital banking solutions for corporates and their entire ecosystem including promoters, group companies, employees, dealers, vendors and all other stakeholders.
  • Godrej Housing Finance (GHF) has released a ‘design your EMI’ home personal loan product to enable consumers to customize their equated monthly installments (EMIs).
  • Google Pay app will now support debit card payments by SBI, IndusInd Bank and Federal Bank and credit cards by IndusInd Bank and HSBC.
  • Federal Bank has expanded its strategic collaboration with Oracle and Infosys, to offer an enhanced customer experience through Oracle CX (Customer Experience) platform.
  • LIC Cards Services Ltd (LIC CSL) has launched a contactless prepaid gift card ‘Shagun’ in collaboration with IDBI Bank on the RuPay platform.
  • State-owned Canara Bank mentioned it will be the lead sponsor of National Asset Reconstruction Company Limited (NARCL) or bad bank with 12 per cent stake in the entity.
  • Digital payments company PhonePe has launched India’s first Wallet Auto Top-up feature using UPI e-mandates for its customers.
  • IDFC FIRST Bank has announced the launch of “Ghar Ghar Ration” Program, an Employee-funded program for its low-income customers whose livelihoods are affected by COVID-19.
  • IndusInd Bank announced the launch of ‘Indus Easy Credit’, a comprehensive digital lending platform that enables customers to meet their financial requirements from the comfort of their homes.

  • Sterling and Wilson Solar Ltd announced the appointment of Amit Jain as Global CEO.
  • COAI stated Ajai Puri, Chief Operating Officer of Bharti Airtel, has been re-elected as Chairman of the industry association for 2021-22.
  • On June 11, 2021, The United Nations appointed Rebeca Grynspan from Costa Rica as the new secretary general of its trade and development body, of  the United Nations Conference on Trade & Development.
  • Indian peacekeepers in Sudan honoured with UN medals for outstanding performance
  • Nivea India announced the appointment of Ajay Simha as the marketing director.
  • Streaming platform SonyLIV has appointed Sreedhar Reddy Komalla as head, Telugu content, digital business.
  • Foreign lender HSBC appointed bank veteran Raghu Narula as the head of wealth and retail banking for the country from August 1.
  • Microsoft named its chief executive officer Satya Nadella as board chairman, an additional role in which he will lead the work to set the agenda for the board.
  • udChalo, a Consumer Services Company for Indian Defence Personnel announced that Ravi Kumar has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer of udChalo.

  • Watch manufacturer Timex Group India announced the appointment of former ADIDAS India executive Manoj Juneja as Vice President Sales & Marketing.
  • Yuvraj Singh appointed as Brand Ambassador of PUMA Motorsport in India
  • Premium smartphone brand OnePlus stated it has named cricketer Jasprit Bumrah as the brand ambassador for its wearables category.
  • Aashish Chandorkar, a private person, is appointed to the post of Councillor, Permanent Mission of India(PMI), World Trade Organisation (WTO), Geneva (at DS/Director level) for a period of three years,” the department of commerce has stated in an office order.
  • Montek Singh Ahluwalia, former Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission and distinguished fellow at the Centre for Social and Economic Progress (CSEP), was named as a member of a High-Level Advisory Group (HLAG) formed by the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in the face of the dual crisis posed by the Covid-19 pandemic and climate change.

  • The Assam government will present its own versions of the Bharat Ratna and the Padma awards from next year.
  • Indian-American chemist Sumita Mitra has won one of Europe’s most prestigious innovation prizes for her pioneering use of nanotechnology in dentistry to produce stronger and more aesthetically pleasing fillings which are now used by dentists around the world. Mitra won European Inventor Award 2021 in the “Non-EPO countries” category.

  • A MoU for Bihar’s mega Dagmara hydroelectric project, initiated with an aim to a new era of growth in the power sector, was signed between the Bihar State Power Holding Corporation and the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Limited (NHPC).
  • The Emirates Group Security (EGS) and the GMR Aviation Academy (GMRAA) signed a MoU to promote cooperation for development and exchange of information, technical expertise, and experiences in aviation security.
  • An MoU has been signed between the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways and Ministry of Culture and Tourism for Cooperation in Development of National Maritime Heritage Complex at Lothal in Gujarat.
  • State-owned SJVN Ltd has signed a pact with National Institute of Wind Energy (NIWE) to develop solar and wind energy projects.
  • H-Energy signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Petrobangla recently to supply re-gasified liquefied natural gas (R-LNG) from India to Bangladesh.
  • India’s ministry of state for ports, shipping, and waterways has signed a pact with the ministry of civil aviation to develop seaplane services across the country.
  • The Indian Institute of Management Nagpur (IIMN) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Central Institute of Road Transport (CIRT) for generating industry-oriented knowledge in transport management and boosting work capacity.
  • India and Bhutan inked an MoU for developing cooperation between two countries in the area of environment.

  • To Study Venus the European Space Agency (ESA) has announced the launching of its probe EnVision.
  • On June 12, 2021, The Indian Coast Guard inducted the first three of 16 Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH) Mk-III designed and manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).
  • The European Space Agency (ESA) has planned to launch the world’s first wooden satellite, WISA Woodsat, on Earth’s orbit by the end of 2021.
  • On June 17, 2021, The Shenzhou 12 mission launched from Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China. China successfully launched the first three men crew to its new space station in its first crewed mission in five years.
  • Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur and Yantai Institute of Coastal Zone Research in China have developed a technique that can detect the formation of cyclones in the North Indian Ocean region.
  • Polar-Areas Stellar-Imaging in Polarisation High-Accuracy Experiment (PASIPHAE) is an international collaborative sky surveying project.
  • A workforce of Indo-French researchers has developed a brand new imaging technique to make clear images of objects in foggy weather conditions.

  • On June 14, 2021, The yearly meeting of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) held a face-to-face summit at NATO headquarters in Brussels, Belgium.
  • On June 16, 2021, The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay hosted a three-day virtual conference of BRICS Network Universities on electric mobility.  The theme of the Conference of BRICS Network Universities is “Electric Mobility”.

  • On June 17, 2021, The Competition Commission of India (CCI) approved the proposed acquisition of a stake in Magma HDI General Insurance Company by two entities, Under the transaction, India Advantage Fund S4 I & Dynamic India Fund S4 US I, and NHPEA Trisul Holding B.V.

  • India maintained 43rd rank on an annual World Competitiveness Index compiled by the Institute for Management Development (IMD).
  • On June 17, 2021, Institute for Economics and Peace released the 15th edition of the Global Peace Index. Iceland remains the most peaceful country in the world & Afghanistan is the least peaceful country in the world for the fourth consecutive year.
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) was second in terms of reserves transferred to the government as a percentage of gross domestic product (GDP) for the fiscal year 2020-21. Turkey has been ranked first followed by India.

  • India’s Mirabai Chanu, the 2017 world champion in weightlifting, has qualified for the Tokyo Olympics in the women’s 49-kg category announced by the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF).
  • Scotland’s Kathryn Bryce and Mushfiqur Rahim of Bangladesh have been named the International Cricket Council (ICC) Players of the Month for May.
  • On June 13, 2021, The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced  list of 10 cricket legends who have been inducted to the prestigious list of the ICC Hall of Fame
  • On June 13, 2021, world’s second youngest Grandmaster D. Gukesh sensationally won the $15,000 Gelfand Challenge chess title.
  • India’s Neeraj Chopra won the javelin gold medal in the Meeting Cidade de Lisboa in Lisbon, Portugal.
