  • World Thyroid Day is marked on May 25 to raise awareness and understanding of thyroid illnesses, their symptoms, prevention, and treatments.
  • International Missing Children’s Day is an annual awareness event held on May 25th.

  • Union Education Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan has begun the ‘Padhe Bharat’ 100-day reading campaign.
  • Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs and India’s Governor for the New Development Bank (NDB), presided over the 7th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of NDB via video conference in New Delhi.
  • The North East Research Conclave (NERC) 2022 was launched at IIT Guwahati by Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister for Education and Skill Development.
  • The Ministry of Culture honoured Raja Ram Mohan Roy’s 250th birth anniversary with the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.
  • The Ministry of Railways has announced a collaboration with IIT Madras to create a made-in-India Hyperloop system.
  • Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh introduced the Single National Portal for Biotech Researchers and Start-ups, in keeping with the One Nation, One Portal ethos.

  • The World Economic Forum (WEF) has launched the India chapter of the Alliance of CEO Climate Action Leaders to supercharge India’s climate action and decarbonization efforts.
  • Kuwait’s Ministry of Oil announced that it plans to start building the world’s largest petroleum research center by the end of 2022 in al-Ahmadi, south of Kuwait city

  • The Delhi government has inducted a unique initiative of using robots for extinguishing fires in Delhi.
  • Chief Minister M.K. Stalin remotely launched the Kalaignar’s All Village Integrated Agriculture Development Project in the districts of Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri and Erode.
  • The new Tripura Cabinet headed by CM Manik Saha has decided to adopt the Tripura Electric Vehicle Policy 2022, to promote electric vehicles, in an effort to cut down on environmental pollution and uphold Tripura as an eco-friendly tourist destination.
  • Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik launched India’s first ‘Olympic Values Education Programme’ (OVEP) by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in Odisha.
  • Uttar Pradesh minister for urban development and energy, Shri A K Sharma launched SAMBHAV or Systemic Administration Mechanism for Bringing Happiness and Value portal – www.sambhav.up.gov.in platform/portal that will monitor public grievances, programs, schemes, projects and policies of Urban Development and Energy Departments of Uttar Pradesh government effectively and transparently.
  • Redcliffe Labs, a unit of Redcliffe Lifetech in the U.S., has come up with its first commercial drone flight in Uttarakhand in the India healthcare sector.
  • Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah has inaugurated & laid foundation stones of various infrastructure projects worth Rs.1180 crore in Arunachal Pradesh during a public meeting at Namsai, Arunachal Pradesh.

  • Chief Commissioner, Delhi Customs Zone, Shri Surjit Bhujabal inaugurated project ‘NIGAH’ at ICD Garhi Harsaru, Gurugram.
  • Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has approved new guidelines for the implementation of ‘Indira Gandhi Shahari Rozgar Yojana’.
  • The government of Telangana has launched a single-pick cotton pilot project on 50,000 acres.
  • Tamil Nadu Minister for Forests K. Ramachandran announced in the Assembly, that Nanjarayan Tank in Tiruppur district is the 17th bird sanctuary of Tamil Nadu.

  • IDBI Bank has signed a share purchase agreement with Ageas Insurance International to sell its 25 percent stake in Ageas Federal Life Insurance(AFLI) for 580.2 crore.
  • BRICS New Development Bank (NDB) has issued an RMB-denominated bond of 7 billion yuan (about USD 1.04 billion) in China’s interbank bond market with a maturity of three years.
  • According to the World Economic Situation and Prospects (WESP) Mid-year Update 2022 report released by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs, India’s Gross Domestic Product(GDP) growth projections have declined from 6.7% to 6.4% for 2022-23 due to war between Russia and Ukraine & higher commodity prices and potential negative spillover effects from monetary tightening in the United States.
  • According to a Department of Post circular, the NEFT  facility has been made available for Post Office Savings Bank Account (POSB) customers from May 18, 2022 and RTGS facility is currently under testing and is expected to be rolled out by May 31, 2022
  • RBL Bank, Amazon Pay and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have collaborated to offer Universal Payments Interface (UPI) payments.
  • The Supreme Court has directed the constitution of 25 special courts with a retired judge in 5 states for expeditious disposal of cheque bounce cases.
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a penalty of Rs 5 lakh each on KKR India Financial Services Limited, Mumbai & Daimler Financial Services India Private Limited, Pune for failing to comply with the ‘Monitoring of Frauds in NBFCs (Reserve Bank) Directions, 2016’ issued by RBI.
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a monetary penalty of Rs 29.79 lakh on Unimoni Financial Services Limited (the entity) for non-compliance with norms on small-Prepaid Payment instruments (PPI) requirements.
  • A Y Combinator-backed corporate cards and payable management company, Volopay has partnered with Visa’s Fintech Fast Track Program to offer financial management solutions.
  • India’s largest private sector lender HDFC Bank has carved out rural banking function as a separate vertical.
  • The Reserve Bank of India has directed all banks and ATM networks to provide the option of Interoperable Cardless Cash Withdrawal (ICCW), and that the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) support UPI integration with all banks and ATM networks.

  • India’s largest private sector bank, HDFC Bank Partners with India’s largest B2B pharma marketplace , Retailio launched a new range of co-branded credit cards primarily targeted at chemists and pharmacies in the merchant segment.

  • BOB Financial Solutions Limited (BFSL) & Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (HPCL) in partnership with National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has launched the HPCL BoB co-branded contactless RuPay Credit Card.
  • Moody’s Investors Service, often referred to as Moody’s, lowered India’s economic growth projection to 8.8 percent for 2022 from 9.1 percent earlier.
  • A non-banking finance company (NBFC), Northern Arc Capital has entered a strategic partnership with Indian Bank.
  • Digital financial services firm One97 Communications, which operates under the Paytm brand, has formed a joint venture firm Paytm General Insurance Limited (PGIL) approved  by May 20
  • AU Small Finance Bank has launched two new products of AU Royale –‘AU Royale Salary’ and ‘AU Royale Business’ current account under its affluent banking program.
  • According to the State Bank of India’s research report Ecowrap, India’s GDP growth rate has been projected at 8.2-8.5 percent for FY 2022.

  • The central government declared that India received the largest annual FDI inflow of $83.57 billion during FY22.
  • The RBI eased norms for non-bank entities to set up Bharat Bill Payment operating units by reducing the net-worth requirement to Rs 25 crore from Rs 100 crore to encourage more players in the segment.
  • The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has formed various committees through the General Insurance Council (GIC) to suggest reforms in several areas of general, reinsurance, and life insurance such as regulation, product, distribution, among others.
  • The Central Board of Direct Taxes has made new rules, called the Income-tax (Fifteenth Amendment) Rules, 2022, as per this, the government has made quoting of PAN or Aadhar mandatory for cash withdrawals/deposits amounting to Rs. 20 lakh or more in a single financial year.
  • The Reserve Bank of India’s Banknote Survey of Consumers findings revealed that, among banknotes, 100 was the most preferred while 2,000 was the least preferred denomination.

  • Mr PN Vasudevan, Managing Director and CEO, Equitas Small Finance Bank, has decided to step down from his role in order to focus on the public charitable trust.
  • The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved  the appointment of Indian Forest Service (IFS) Officer, Mr Vivek Kumar as new Private Secretary (PS) to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi at the joint secretary level.
  • The board of directors of information technology giant Infosys has re-appointed Mr Salil Parekh as chief executive officer(CEO) & managing director(MD) of the company for a period of 5 years which is effective from July 1, 2022, till March 31, 2027.
  • One 97 Communications, which operates under Paytm brand, has reappointed its founder Mr Vijay Shekhar Sharma as managing director (MD) and chief executive officer (CEO) for another 5 years effective from December 19, 2022, to December 18, 2027.

  • Walmart-backed PhonePe will acquire 2 wealth tech platforms WealthDesk  (‘Wealth Technologies & Services Private Limited’) and OpenQ (Quantech Capital Investment Advisors Private Limited) total deal is in the range of USD 75 million.
  • Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund, GIC, is acquiring a 7.5% equity stake in Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail (ABFRL) for Rs 2,195 crore by way of preferential issue of equity and warrants.
  • India’s largest coal producer, Coal India Limited (CIL), is planning to divest a 25 percent stake in its unlisted arm Bharat Coking Coal Ltd (BCCL), and will go for the subsequent listing of the subsidiary on stock exchanges after obtaining further clearances.
  • Emirates Telecommunications Group Company PJSC “e&” (Etisalat Group) has acquired approximately 2,766 million shares in Vodafone Group Plc aggregating to $4.4 billion, these shares represent 9.8% of Vodafone’s issued share capital.
  • A wholly-owned subsidiary of Adani Enterprises, Adani Defence Systems and Technologies Ltd., signed an agreement to acquire a 50% stake in Bengaluru-based General Aeronautics Pvt. Ltd.

  • Smt. Meenakshi Lekhi, Minister of State for Culture and External Affairs participated in the 7th BRICS Culture Ministers’ Meeting via video conference, which was hosted by the People’s Republic of China and attended by all BRICS Member Nations.
  • President Ram Nath Kovind will kick off the two-day National Women Legislators’ Conference-2022 at the Legislative Assembly complex, which is expected to bring a significant number of female parliamentarians and legislators from throughout the country.

  • The National Film Festival of Jammu and Kashmir is quickly approaching, and the J&K Department of Information and Public Relations has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Film Development Corporation Limited.
  • In the presence of Uttarakhand Chief Minister Mr Pushkar Singh Dhami, an MoU was signed between the Uttarakhand government and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) to promote the renewable energy industry and other initiatives in the state.

  • On May 22, 2022, The fourth edition of the Indian Navy-Bangladesh Navy Coordinated Patrol (CORPAT) commenced in the Northern Bay of Bengal .
  • The Indian Navy successfully tested its ship-based surface-to-air missile (SAM) system by taking down a low flying target.
  • The Indian Navy has launched the second of four Survey Vessels (Large) (SVL) Nirdeshak (Yard 3026) at Kattupalli, Chennai, Tamil Nadu to replace the existing Sandhayak Class survey ship.

  • Chinese scientists have proposed a space project named Closeby Habitable Exoplanet Survey (CHES) to survey the sky with the help of a space-borne telescope, in the quest for habitable terrestrial planets outside the solar system.
  • Private sector rocket maker Skyroot Aerospace Private Ltd successfully tested the Kalam-100 rocket that will power the Vikram-1 rocket’s third stage/engine.
  • The  National Aeronautics and Space Administration(NASA) & Boeing successfully launched Starliner spacecraft – uncrewed mission called Orbital Flight Test 2 (OFT-2) from Space Launch Complex-41 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida, USA.
  • The 3rd edition of Indian Navy and Bangladesh Navy Bilateral exercise Bongosagar 2022 commenced at Port Mongla, Bangladesh.
  • The Army Training Command signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Gandhinagar-based Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU) to develop a ‘Wargame Research and Development Centre’(prototype name ‘WARDEC’) in New Delhi.
  • The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) plans to build an identical pair of satellites named DISHA (Disturbed and quiet time Ionosphere-thermosphere System at High Altitudes) L&H to study the physics and chemistry of the upper atmosphere including the distribution of temperature, density, and chemical constituents, and the chemical reactions that occur there.

  • Chairman, Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM), Dr Bibek Debroy has released the State of Inequality in India Report.
  • According to the report titled Travel & Tourism Development Index  (TTDI) 2021: Rebuilding for a Sustainable and Resilient Future’, released by the World Economic Forum (WEF), India has been ranked the 54th place in the overall rankings with a score of 4.2, down from 46th in 2019, but has remained on top within South Asia.
  • The Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education released the National Achievement Survey (NAS) 2021 report.
  • According to the Global Food Policy Report, 2022 released by the International Food Policy Research Institute(IFPRI), the number of Indians at risk from hunger is expected to be 73.9 million by 2030 and, if the effects of climate change were to be factored in, it would increase to 90.6 million.
