  • The United Nations observes “International Day for Tolerance” on 16th November every year to create public awareness of the dangers of intolerance.
  • National Epilepsy Day is observed on November 17 every year by the Epilepsy Foundation, to create awareness about epilepsy & the month of November is observed as ‘National Epilepsy Awareness Month.
  • World COPD Day is observed on 17th November (Third Wednesday of November) every year & the day is organised by the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) with the collaboration of health care professionals and COPD patient groups across the globe.
  • World Philosophy Day is celebrated on the Third Thursday of November each year, In 2021, the day falls on 18 November & it was introduced in 2002 by UNESCO.
  • Every year, National Naturopathy Day is observed on 18th November in India & the day was declared by the Ministry of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy), Government of India, on November 18, 2018.
  • World Toilet Day is an official United Nations International observance day on 19 November to inspire action to tackle the global sanitation crisis & the theme of 2021 is valuing toilets.
  • World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (WAAW) is celebrated from 18-24 November every year & the 2021 theme is Spread Awareness, Stop Resistance, calls on One Health stakeholders, policymakers, health care providers, and the general public to be Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)  Awareness champions.
  • Universal/World Children’s Day is celebrated on 20 November annually to promote international togetherness, awareness among children worldwide, and improving children’s welfare & the theme of 2021 is A better future for every child.

CURRENT AFFAIRS: NATIONAL NEWS

  • Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu has inaugurated the 24th edition of Bengaluru Tech Summit 2021 being organised by the Department of Electronics, IT & BT of the Government of Karnataka jointly with Software Technology Parks of India with a theme ‘Driving the Next’.
  • The Cabinet has approved provisioning of mobile services in uncovered villages of ‘aspirational districts’ across five States of Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra and Odisha, at an estimated cost of ₹6,466 crore & it envisages 4G based mobile services in the 7,287 uncovered villages of 44 Aspirational Districts across these five States.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the “First Global Innovation Summit of the Pharmaceuticals sector” on November 18, 2021.
  • Prime Minister participated virtually in the 21st Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), and through video-message in the Joint SCO-CSTO Outreach Session on Afghanistan.
  • The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has set up a Customs & GST pavilion in the 40th edition of India International Trade Fair.
  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has attended the 56th Conference of Director Generals of Police (DGP) and Inspector Generals of Police (IGP) at Police Headquarters, Lucknow
  • Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Parshottam Rupala has launched India’s first-of-its-kind, dedicated business incubator known as LINAC-NCDC Fisheries Business Incubation Centre in Gurugram, Haryana.
  • Union Minister for Commerce, Industry, Food and Public Distribution Piyush Goyal virtually launched India’s first Food Museum in Thanjavur, Tamil Nādu and measures were on to make the country go up the  ladder from currently being the fifth-largest agricultural exporter in the world.
  • The 4th edition of the Global report on trends in prevalence of tobacco use 2000–2025 published by the World Health Organization (WHO).
  • Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the proposals by the Union Rural Development Ministry for continuation of the PMGSY-I and PMGSY-II up to September 2022 to complete road and bridge
  • The 52nd edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) has begun in Goa & the opening ceremony will be hosted by filmmaker Karan Johar and actor Manish Paul.
  • Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi will inaugurate the “InFinity Forum”, a 2-day thought leadership Forum on FinTech, on 3rd December 2021.
  • The government has signed a contract for procurement of two Fixed Base Full Mission Simulators (FBFMS) for Jaguar Aircraft from HAL for IAF with five years Comprehensive Annual Maintenance  Contract (CAMC) at a combined total cost of Rs.357 crore.

  • India and France held the 15th Meeting of their Joint Working Group on Counter Terrorism in Paris.
  • India has reaffirmed its strong commitment to strengthening Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) & India Virtually participating in the 21st Annual Council of Ministers (COM) meeting.

CURRENT AFFAIRS: STATE NEWS

  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated Purvanchal Expressway in Sultanpur district, UP.
  • The State Cabinet headed by Chief Minister Pema Khandu has approved the large, brightly coloured Kaiser-i-Hind as the Arunachal Pradesh’s State Butterfly.
  • Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has launched ‘Aatmanirbhar Gram Yatra’ from Mahemdabad near Ahmedabad to reach out to the villages in the state.
  • UP’s first air pollution control tower opened in Noida & the anti-air pollution tower is located in a posh sector 16-A.
  • The Food and Supplies Department, Government of West Bengal, has launched India’s first of its kind WhatsApp chat bot dedicated to facilitate the citizens of West Bengal to apply for a ration card, lodge  grievances and get access to other critical resources

CURRENT AFFAIRS: BANKING & ECONOMY

  • The Government of India and Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed a $61 million loan to improve livability, harness technology, and promote new developments to accommodate the expanding population in Agartala city while building capacity of state agencies for improved service delivery.
  • The Swiss brokerage firm, UBS Securities has revised India’s real GDP growth projection for 2021-22 to 9.5 percent from 8.5 percent estimated earlier.
  • Paytm Money, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Paytm, launched Voice Trading that allows users to place a trade or get information about stocks via single voice command.
  • HDFC Bank Ltd has launched the second edition of its “Mooh Band Rakho” campaign to raise awareness on fraud prevention in support of International Fraud Awareness Week 2021 (November 14-20, 2021).
  • Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) has entered into a collaboration with Google for having a social impact lending programme, entailing financial assistance up to ₹1 crore at competitive interest rates targeted at micro- enterprises.
  • State Bank of India (SBI) has entered into a strategic partnership with Jamshedpur Football Club (JFC), a fully owned Tata Steel subsidiary, to promote football in the country.
  • India received $87 billion in remittances in 2021, and the United States was the biggest source, accounting for over 20 percent of these funds, the World Bank.
  • The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) has approved a 150 million USD loan to the Government of India for the implementation of the Sustainable Urban services program for Chennai Metropolitan  Area (CMA).
  • Private sector lender RBL Bank has been authorized by the Reserve Bank of India to collect direct taxes on behalf of the Central Board of Direct Taxes.
  • The Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM) has projected a real rate of growth of 7 to 7.5 per cent and a nominal rate of growth of more than 11 per cent in 2022-23.
  • HDFC Bank launched a micro-credit facility for the street vendors under PM Street vendor’s Atma Nirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi), with common service centres.
  • Mswipe has announced a partnership agreement with OneCard, a mobile-first credit card company & it will provide no-cost or low-cost EMIs to its retail customers while purchasing at Mswipe Point of Sale terminals.

  • India has been re-elected to the Executive Board of UNESCO for the term 2021-25.
  • The senior most judge of Madras High Court, M Duraiswamy was appointed as the Acting Chief Justice of the Madras HC.
  • On the TRIFED (Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation Ltd) Aadi Mahotsav at Dilli Haat occasion Olympic medalist and boxer Padma Vibhushan MC Marry Kom was declared as brand  ambassador of the TRIFED Aadi Mahotsav.

CURRENT AFFAIRS: MOUs AND AGREEMENT

  • Infosys, a leading digital services and consulting company, and MIT Technology Review, a world-renowned technology media brand and its custom publishing division Insights, have announced the launch of ‘The Cloud Hub’, a forum offering insights and learning from successful cloud transformations to help global enterprises accelerate their cloud journey.
  • Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) , operator of Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru (BLR Airport), has partnered with Microsoft India for the ‘BIAL Genie Hackathon’ to develop an app using Microsoft Azure.

  • Two Delhi-based teenage brothers Vihaan (17) and Nav Agarwal (14) have won the 17th annual KidsRights International Children’s Peace Prize for tackling pollution in their home city by recycling household waste.

  • Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat will inaugurate the 14th edition of ‘c0c0n’, an annual Hacking and Cyber Security Briefing, which will be held virtually from November 10-13 with the theme of Improvise, Adapt and Overcome.
  • The Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) is organising a virtual agriculture summit and awards event titled Envisioning Smart & Sustainable Agriculture on November 17 and 18.
  • On Nov 17, 2021, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated two-days 82nd All India Presiding Officers Conference (AIPOC) in Shimla Himachal Pradesh.
  • Prime Minister Modi delivered a keynote address at The Sydney Dialogue via video conferencing & it is an initiative of the Australian Strategic Policy
  • Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas & Housing and Urban Affairs, will lead an official and business delegation to UAE from 15 – 17 November 2021, to attend the Abu Dhabi  International Petroleum Exhibition & Conference (ADIPEC) & it was hosted by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC).

  • On Nov 15, 2021, The sixth edition of Indo French joint military exercise ‘EX-SHAKTI 2021’ was conducted at the French port town of Frejus & the exercise will focus on Counter-Terrorism
  • The 3rd edition of the Singapore, India and Thailand Trilateral Maritime Exercise (SITMEX – 21) commenced on Nov 15-16, 2021 it is being held in the Andaman Sea and is being hosted by the Royal Thai Navy (RTN).
  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the Rashtra Raksha Samparpan Parv in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh & it has been organised by the Ministry of Defence from November 17-19, 2021 as a part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahaotsav’ celebrations.
  • On Nov 15, 2021, the Indian Air Force and the Indian Army conducted a joint airlift exercise named Operation Hercules.
  • On Nov 17, 2021, Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) signed an export contract with Airbus Defense & Space, Spain for supply of CounterMeasures Dispensing System (CMDS) & the contract, valued at around USD 21 million, was signed by NP Diwakar, Director (Technical) BDL and  Arnal Didier Dominique, Sr Vice President Airbus Defense and Space, S.A.U., at Bengaluru.
  • On Nov 18, 2021, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh dedicated to the Nation renovated Rezang La Memorial at a solemn ceremony at Chushul in Ladakh.
  • On Nov 16, 2021, The Indian Navy conducted a security exercise, called “Prasthan“, in the Offshore Development Area (ODA) off the coast of Mumbai & the exercise, conducted by the Headquarters Western Naval Command, is held every six months.

  • India has slipped five points in the global bribery risk rankings settling at the 82nd spot with a score of 44 among 194 nations analysed for compliance risks businesses face internationally & Denmark ( with a risk score of 2 ) , Norway ( with a risk score of 5 ) , Sweden ( with a risk score of 7 ) , Finland and New Zealand are the top five ranked nations on the TRACE matrix and the least corrupt societies.

  • On Nov 16, 2021, India successfully launched the 41st Scientific Expedition to Antarctica & it is being led by Dr Shailendra Saini, Scientist National Centre for Polar & Ocean Research (Voyage Leader).
  • According to Indian Space Research Organisation, the exoplanet search and study group at the Ahmedabad based Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), has discovered a new exoplanet orbiting too close to an evolved or aging star with a mass of 1.5 times that of the Sun and located 725 light years away.
  • SpaceX launched 53 Starlink satellites on a Falcon 9 rocket lifted off from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida, United States.
  • Union Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Shri Giriraj Singh inaugurated ‘Bhumi Samvaad’ – National Workshop on Digital India Land Record Modernisation Programme (DILRMP) at India Habitat Centre in New Delhi.

  • On Nov 12, 2021, Union Minister of State for Culture Meenakshi Lekhi launched the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav mobile App to enable all single point access to all information related to the 75th anniversary celebrations of India’s independence.

  • Punjab Sports and higher education minister Pargat Singh launched a book ‘Uddna Baaz’ a biography on Olympian Gurbachan Singh Randhawa & the book is written by the sports writer Navdeep Singh Gill, an officer with the state public relations department.
  • HarperCollins India presents A New Book Titled ‘The Disruptor: How Vishwanath Pratap Singh Shook India’ authored by Debashish Mukerji.
  • Pullela Gopichand released his autobiography Shuttler’s Flick: Making Every Match Count Co-authored by writer and motivational speaker Priya Kumar & the Book published by Simon & Schuster India.
  • Union Women and Child Development Minister and former actor Smriti Zubin Irani announced the publication of her debut novel Lal Salaam & the novel is based on the tragic killings of 76 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel at Dantewada in  Chhattisgarh in April 2010.
  • Former Union minister and Congress leader Salman Khurshid authored a book titled Sunrise Over Ayodhya: Nationhood in Our Times.

  • On Nov 15, 2021, Lewis Hamilton won the Brazilian Grand Prix 2021 in Sao Paulo, Brazil meanwhile Max Verstappen (Red Bull – Netherlands) came second & Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes-Finland) came third in the Brazilian Grand Prix 2021.
  • On Nov 12, 2021, American high jumper Erik Kynard will finally get his gold medal from the 2012 London Olympics after the IOC approved reallocating some results from those games because of doping cases.
  • Australia became the new T20 World Cup champions after registering a comprehensive 8 wicket win over New Zealand in the summit clash at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, UAE.
  • On Nov 17, 2021, Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports Shri Anurag Thakur conferred the first ever SAI Institutional Awards to 246 athletes and coaches in New Delhi.
  • Janette Brittin (England) , Mahela Jayawardene (Sri Lanka) and Shaun Pollock (South Africa) have been inducted into ICC Cricket Hall of Fame in 2021.
  • The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports announced the National Sports Awards 2021 , it includes Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award, Arjuna Award, Dronacharya Award, Dhyan Chand Award for Lifetime Achievement in Sports and Games, Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar & Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA) Trophy.
  • Former world number one Garbine Muguruza beat Anett Kontaveit 6-3, 7-5 to become the first Spaniard to win the elite season-ending WTA Finals in Guadalajara, Mexico & In doubles, Czech’s Barbora Krejčíková and Kateřina Siniaková defeated Hsieh Su-wei (Chinese Taipei)  and Elise Mertens (Belgium) 6–3, 6–4.
  • On Nov 19, 2021, South African legend and former captain AB De Villiers announced retirement from all forms of cricket.
  • Alexander Zverev won his fifth ATP title of the season and 18th overall by defeating American qualifier Frances Tiafoe 7-5, 6-4 at the Vienna Open 2021 or Erste Bank Open 2021.
  • Indian badminton player Prakash Padukone will receive the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award this year from the Badminton World Federation (BWF).
  • The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed the 14 host countries of the ICC men’s white ball events from 2024-2031.
