Direction (6-10): Study following information carefully and answer the questions given below.

Five students are belongs to different departments viz., CSE, EEE, Mech, Civil, and ECE are standing in 5 different rows.  Each row arranged one above the other and numbered 1 to 5 from bottom to top. They are having different number of cricket balls and bats. The total number of balls and bats is 840.

Only one row between the students belongs to ECE and EEE. The person who is standing in Row-4 has 75 balls. There are totally 249 balls and bats kept by the person who standing in the Row-1. In the Row-3, the person has either 153 or 156 balls and bats totally. The student who belongs to ECE is not standing in odd numbered row. The student who belongs to EEE does not have equal number of balls and bats. The student who belongs to Civil stand immediately below the row which has equal number of balls and bats. The student who is standing in Row-3 has 66 bats. The sum of the balls and bats of CSE student is 195. One of the students who standing in a row having the total balls and bats of 126 is not immediately above the one who have maximum number of balls and bats together. The CSE student has 21 balls less than the number of balls that Civil student has. The CSE student has 30 bats more than the number of balls that EEE student has. The student who is standing in Row-3 has not less than 90 balls. The CSE student is standing in odd numbered row.

Answers:

Direction (1-5)

  1. Answer: c
  2. Answer: b
  3. Answer: e
  4. Answer: d
  5. Answer: a

Direction (6-10):

Explanation:

Row Department Bats Balls Total
5 CSE 81 114 195
4 EEE 51 75 126
3 Mech 66 90 156
2 ECE 57 57 114
1 Civil 114 135 249

  • There are totally 249 balls and bats kept by the person who standing in the Row-1.
  • The student who standing in Row-3 has 66 bats.
  • The person who standing in Row-4 has 75 balls.
  • Only one row between the students belongs to ECE and EEE.
  • The student who belongs to ECE is not standing in odd numbered row.

Now we have 2 Cases.

Case 1:

Row Department Bats Balls Total
5
4 ECE 75
3 66
2 EEE
1 249

Case 2:

Row Department Bats Balls Total
5
4 EEE 75
3 66
2 ECE
1 249

  • The student who standing in Row-3 has not less than 90 balls.
  • In the Row-3, the person has either 153 or 156 balls and bats totally.
  • The sum of the balls and bats of CSE student is 195.
  • The CSE student is standing in odd numbered row.
  • Hence CSE student standing in row-5.

Case 1:

Row Department Bats Balls Total
5 CSE 195
4 ECE 75
3 66 90 156
2 EEE
1 249

Case 2:

Row Department Bats Balls Total
5 CSE 195
4 EEE 75
3 66 90 156
2 ECE
1 249

  • One of the students who standing in a row having the total balls and bats of 126 is not immediately above the one who have maximum number of balls and bats together.
  • Hence the overall total of balls and balls is 840.
  • 840-(249-126-195-156)=114
  • Therefore one of another row has 114 balls and bats.
  • Hence 126 fixed in row-4 and 114 is in row-2.
  • In Row-4: 126-75(balls)=51 bats.

Case 1:

Row Department Bats Balls Total
5 CSE 195
4 ECE 51 75 126
3 66 90 156
2 EEE 114
1 249

Case 2:

Row Department Bats Balls Total
5 CSE 195
4 EEE 51 75 126
3 66 90 156
2 ECE 114
1 249

  • One of the rows contains equal number of bats and balls.
  • So the even number only divided equally (114/2=57).
  • Row-2 contains the even number of total.
  • Then the Row-2 have 57 balls and bats.
  • The student who belongs to EEE does not have equal number of balls and bats. Hence Case 1 was dropped.
  • The student who belongs to Civil standing immediately below the row which has equal number of balls and bats.
  • Hence Civil student standing in Row-1 and Mech student in Row-3.

Case 2:

Row Department Bats Balls Total
5 CSE 195
4 EEE 51 75 126
3 Mech 66 90 156
2 ECE 57 57 114
1 Civil 249

  • The CSE student has 30 bats more than the number of balls that EEE student has.
  • Hence CSE students have 81(30+51) bats.
  • The CSE student has 21 balls less than the number of balls that Civil student has.
  • Civil student have 114+21 balls=135 balls.
  • The number of bats having Civil students is equal to the total number of balls and bats have ECE students.

Case 2:

Row Department Bats Balls Total
5 CSE 81 114 195
4 EEE 51 75 126
3 Mech 66 90 156
2 ECE 57 57 114
1 Civil 114 135 249
