Answers:

1). Answer d

The ratio of B’s age six years hence to C’s present age = 3: 2 (3x, 2x)

Present ages of B to C = 3x-6, 2x

Present ages of A to C = 2: 1(2x, x)

Present ages of A, B and C = 4x, 3x-6, 2x

B = A – 13

A – B = 13

4x – (3x-6) = 13

4x – 3x + 6 = 13

X = 7

B’s age, after 5 years = 3x – 6 + 5 = 21 – 1 = 20 years

2). Answer a

Total ages of A, B and C three years ago

= > 28*3 = 84 years

Total present ages of A, B and C = 84 + 9 = 93 years

Total present ages of A, B, C and D = 32*4= 128 years

Present age of D = 128 – 93 = 35 years

Age of D, 8 years ago = 35 – 8 = 27 years.

3). Answer c

5 years ago, the ratio of age of A and B = 3: 2 (3x, 2x)

The present age of A and B = 3x + 5, 2x + 5

Present age of C = Present age of A – 7

Present age of D = 35 – 6 = 29

Present age of C = 2 * present age of D

= > 2*29 = 58 years

Present age of A = 58 + 7 = 65 years

3x + 5 = 65

3x = 60

X = 20

The present age of B = 2x + 5 = 45 years

4). Answer b

The ratio of age of Kavi’s age after 7 years and Silambu’s age 8 years ago = 2: 1 (2x, x)

Preethi’s present age = 30 years

Silambu’s present age = 30 – 5 = 25

Silambu’s age 8 years ago = 17

X = 17

2x = 34

After 7 years, the age of Kavi = 34 years

Present age of Kavi = 27 years

5). Answer a

The ratio of present age of A and B = 6: 7 (6x, 7x)

The present age of C = (B’s present age/2)2

A’s age after 6 years = 18 years

Present age of A = 12 years

6x = 12

X = 2

Present age of B = 7x = 14 years

Present age of C = (14/2)2 = 72 = 49 years

6). Answer c

The present age of Rajesh = Vaibhavi’s age 10 years hence

5 years ago, Vaibhavi and Rajesh = 1: 2 (x, 2x)

Present age of Vaibhavi and Rajesh = x + 5, 2x + 5

According to the question,

2x + 5 = x + 5 + 10

2x – x = 10

x = 10

Vaibhavi’s present age = x + 5 = 10 + 5 = 15 years

7). Answer d

The ratio of age of A 4 years ago and the present age of B = 2: 1 (2x, x)

C = B + 8

C = A – 12

A – 12 = B + 8

2x + 4 – 12 = x + 8

X = 16

Present age of A = 2x + 4 = 36 years

Present age of B = 16 years

Present age of C = 16 + 8 = 24 years

Present age of C = 4* Present age of D

Present age of D = 24/4 = 6 years

8). Answer c

The ratio of present age of Ramesh and Kavi = 5: 6 (5x, 6x)

Silambu = 5 + Kavi = 6x + 5

Sum of the present ages of three of them = 56 years

5x + 6x + 6x + 5 = 56

17x = 56 – 5

17x = 51

X = 3

Present age of Ramesh = 5x = 15

Present age of Janvi = 2*Ramesh = 2*15 =30 years

The age of Janvi, after 3 years = 33 years

9). Answer b

A’s present age = (4/5)*B’s present age

The ratio of present age of A and B = 4: 5

B’s present age = (2/3)*C’s present age

The ratio of present age of B and C = 2: 3

The ratio of present age of A, B and C = 8: 10: 15

33’s = 99

1’s = 3

The difference between the ages of A and C = (15 – 8)’s = 7’s = 21 years

10). Answer d

3 years ago, the ratio of ages of Rajiv and Ganga = 7: 5 (7x, 5x)

Present ages of Rajiv and Ganga = 7x + 3, 5x + 3

Vaishnavi = Rajiv – 8

Vaishnavi = Ganga + 2

Rajiv – 8 = Ganga + 2

7x + 3 – 8 = 5x + 3 + 2

7x – 5 = 5x + 5

2x = 10

X = 5

Present age of Rajiv = 38 years

Present age of Ganga = 28 years

The sum of the present age of Rajiv and Ganga = 38 + 28 = 66 years
