  3. Rajni is six years older than Dinesh.

a) Only III

b) Only II and either I or III

c) Only I and III

d) All I, II and III

e) None is sufficient

Answers :

1). Answer: b)

From statement II, we can say that A student can answer in 25C18 ways.

Hence statement II alone is sufficient to answer the question.

2). Answer: b)

From statement II,

Let x be the total marks of an examination.

Then, 30% of x +21 = 37% of x

x= 300

Thus passing marks= [(30/100)*300]+ 18

= 90+18

= 108

Hence Statement II alone is sufficient to answer the question.

3). Answer: d)

Even if we combine both statements, we cannot find the length of the train.

4). Answer: c)

Let the cost price of an item be Rs x.

From Statement I,

From question, we observe that,

The selling price of Ragav is same as cost price of Kathir.

Let the cost price of an item be Rs x.

Then cost price of an item= 20000-2000= Rs 18000

Thus, x*150/100= 18000

x= Rs 12000

Then required selling price= 12000*140/100=Rs 16800

From Statement II,

(130x/100)- (120x/100) = 800

10x/100= 800

x= Rs 8000

Then, Required selling price= 8000*140/100= Rs 11200

Either Statement I or statement II is sufficient to answer the question.

5). Answer: e)

Statement I:

Given that, Mani and Karthi can complete the work in 8 days.

Then work done by Mani and Karthi in 6 days= 6/8= ¾

Hence Remaining work= 1-(3/4) = ¼

Thus Vibhu can complete the work in 4*3 days. (i.e.) 12 days

Statement II: Given that, Mani and Vibhu together can complete the same work in 72/7 days

Now from Statement I and Statement II, we have,

Mani’s one day work= (7/72)- (1/12)= 1/72

Karthi’s one day work= (1/8)- (1/72)=1/9

Ratio of one day’s work of all of them= 1/72: 1/9:1/12

= 1:8:6

Thus wage of Karthi= 8/15*12300= Rs 6560

Thus , Both Statements are sufficient to answer the question.

6). Answer: e)

Let x be the age of Prabhu and y be the age of Mani and z be the age of Vanitha.

From Statement I,

x= 2/3*z

From Statement II,

x=2y and 13y-24z=44

After solving all the above equations, we can find the present age of Prabhu.

Hence, Both Statements I and II are necessary to answer the question

7). Answer: c)

Statement I:

We know that, difference between the compound interest and the simple interest= (PR2)/1002

320 = (32000* R2)/100*100

R= 10%

Statement II:

Let P=100

n=14

We know that, SI= pnr/100

If we substitute these values we can find the rate of interest per annum.

Hence Either Statement I or statement II is sufficient to answer the question.

8). Answer: e)

Let x be the speed of the boat in still water and y be the speed of the current

From Statement I,

Downstream speed= 24/3= 8 km/hr

(i.e) x+y=8

From Statement II,

Speed of the current= 25% of 8 km= 2 km/hr

Then speed of the boat in still water=6 km/hr

Thus required time= 120/4= 30 hour

Hence Both Statements I and II are necessary to answer the question

9). Answer: a)

From I:

1/A + 1/B = 1/15

From II:

1/A + 1/B + 1/D = 1/12

From III:

1/C + 1/D = 1/10

From I, II and III

1/A + 1/B = 1/15 —- (i)

1/A + 1/B + 1/D = 1/12 —- (ii)

1/C + 1/D = 1/10 —– (iii)

Now,

1/A + 1/B + 1/D – 1/A – 1/B = 1/12 – 1/15

=> 1/D = (5 – 4)/60

=> 1/D = 1/60

Putting this value in equation (iii)

=> 1/C + 1/60 = 1/10

=> 1/C = 1/10 – 1/60

=> 1/C = (6 – 1)/60

=> 1/C = 5/60

=> 1/C = 1/12

Let, the required time = t minutes

6/60 + t/12 = 1

=> 1/10 + t/12 = 1

=> t/12 = 1 – 1/10

=> t/12 = (10 – 1)/10

=> t/12 = 9/10

=> t = 9/10 x 12

=> t = 54/5 minutes

Hence, All I, II and III are required.

10). Answer: c)

From I:

Let the present ages of Raju and Dinesh be 4x years and 3x years respectively.

(4x + 8)/(3x + 8) = 6/5

=> 20x + 40 = 18x + 48

=> 20x – 18x = 48 – 40

=> 2x = 8

=> x = 4

From II:

Rajni + Vikash = Raju + Dinesh

From III:

Rajni = Dinesh + 6

From I and III:

Let the present ages of Raju and Dinesh be 4x years and 3x years respectively.

(4x + 8)/(3x + 8) = 6/5

=> 20x + 40 = 18x + 48

=> 20x – 18x = 48 – 40

=> 2x = 8

=> x = 4

Present age of Dinesh = 3x + 4 = 3 x 4 + 4 = 16 years

Present age of Rajni = 16 + 6 = 22 years

Age of Rajni after 7 years = 22 + 7 = 29 years

Hence, Only I and III are required.
