1) A train leaves Rampur at 2:15 pm and travels at the rate of 50 kmph. Another train leaves Rajpur to Rampur at 1:35 pm and travels at the rate of 60 kmph. If the distance between Rajpur and Rampur is 590 km at what distance from Rampur will the two trains meet?
4). The length of a train and a platform is equal. The train at the speed of 60 km/hr crosses the platform in 1 minute. What is the length of platform?
6) The speed of two trains are in the ratio x:y. They are moving in the opposite directions on parallel tracks. The first train crossed a telegraph pole in ‘k’ seconds where as the second train crossed the same telegraph pole in ‘p’ second. Find the time taken by the trains to cross each other completely.
7) A train travels at the speed of 65 kmph and halts at 8 junctions for a certain time. It covers a distance of 1300 km in 1 day (24 hours). How long does the train stop at each junction, if it halts for the same period time at all the junction?
8) How many seconds will a train 60 m in length, travelling at the rate of 42 kmph, take to pass another train 84 m long, proceeding in the same direction at the rate of 30 kmph?
9) The distance between Meerut and Allahabad is 700 km. Sangamnagri express starts from Allahabad to Meerut at 60 kmph. 50 minutes later Ganga express leaves Meerut to Allahabad on the parallel tracks at 70 kmph. How far from Meerut will they cross each other?
10) The two trains of lengths 400m, 600m respectively, running at same directions. The faster train can cross the slower train in 180sec, the speed of the slower train is 48km/hr. Then find the speed of the faster train?
Answers:
1). Answer: c
A train that leaves Rajpur travels at the speed at the speed of 60 kmph, at 2.15 pm it will be at 550 km way from the given train at Rampur. So the two trains meet each other in 5 hours (550/110 = 5 hrs) and from Rampur trains will met at a distance of 50 * 5 = 250 km.
2) Answer: b
Let the length of train B be X m.
Then, length train A =2X/5
Now the speed of train B to that of train A
= (X/70) : (2X/5)/45
= (x/70) : (2x/225)
= 45 : 28
3). Answer: b
Speed of train is = 150/3 = 50 m/s
Time taken to cross the bridge
= (length of train + length of bridge)/ Speed of train
= 350 / 50 = 7 sec.
4). Answer: a
Let the length and platform be x metre.
Train Speed = 60 kmph = [(60 × 5)/18] m/sec = 50/3 m/sec
Time = 1 minute = 60 seconds
According to the question,
(x + x)/(50/3) = 60
6x / 50 = 60
x = (50 × 10)
x = 500 metre.
5) Answer: d
1/6 Minutes = 10 sec, 1/4 minutes = 15 sec
Speed of first train = 300/10 = 30 m/s
Speed of second train = 300/15 = 20 m/sec
If they travel in opposite direction, relative speed = 30 + 20 = 50 m/sec
Distance covered = 300 + 300 = 600 m
Time = distance/speed = 600/50 = 12 sec
6). Answer: c
Length of 1st train = xk
Length of 2nd train = yp
Time = Total distance / [Relative speed] = (xk + yp)/(x + y)
7). Answer: a
Speed = 65 kmph
Distance = 1300 km
Time taken = 1300/65 = 20 hours
Clearly, 4 hours are spent at 8 junctions in stoppages as one full day was taken for the journey to be completed.
Required time = 4 * 60 = 240 min and at each junction the halt is of = 240/8 = 30 min
8) Answer: b
Relative speed = 42 – 30 = 12 kmph = 12 * 5/18 = 10/3 m/s
Time = Total length of both the train/relative speed
= (84 + 60)/(10/3)
= 43.2 sec
9). Answer: c
In 50 minute Sangamnagri can cover 50 km. So, the rest distance = 650 km, which will be jointly covered by both trains. Time taken = 650 / (60 + 70) = 5 hr
Distance from Meerut = 5 * 70 = 350 km
10) Answer: b
Length of the two trains = 600m + 400m
Speed of the first train = X
Speed of the second train= 48 Km/hr
1000 / [(X – 48) * 5/18] = 180
(1000*18)/[(x-48)*5] = 180
X – 48 = 20
X = 68 Km/hr
