2x + ky + 7 = 0 =>ky = – 2x – 7 => y = -2/ k x- 7/k

– 27x + 18y + 25 = 0 => 18y = 27x + 25 => y = 3/2 x 25/18

(-2/k)(3/2)=-1

=> k = 3

2. Answer: B

First number × second number = HCF × LCM

84 × second number = 12 × 336

Second number = 48

3. Answer: C

∴ Ratio in the number of sheeps of X and Y = 30: 60 = 1: 2

∴ Ratio in the rent = 1: 2

Let the speed of A be x km./hr. and that of B be y km/hr.

∴ 1·4/x : 1·4/y = 3: 7

⇒ y/x = 3/7

⇒ 3x – 7y = 0 …(i)

Again, 1·4/y – 1·4/x = 16/60

⇒( x– y)/xy = 4/21 …(ii)

On solving eqns. (i) and (ii) we get, x = 7 and y = 3.
