The names of the Sahitya Akademi Award 2020 winners list were announced by the National Akademi of Letters during the opening day of its annual ‘Festival of Letters’ event. The political-writer M Veerappa Moily, poet Arundhathi Subramaniam will be bestowed with the Sahitya Akademi Award 2020. The Sahitya Akademi Award 2020 winners’ list includes seven books of poetry, four novels, five short stories, two plays, and one each of memoirs and epic poetry in 20 Indian languages. The awards for Malayalam, Nepali, Odia and Rajasthani will be announced later.

Sahitya Akademi Award 2020 Eligibility Criteria
 1. To meet the eligibility criteria of the Sahitya Akademi Award 2020, the books need to have a great contribution towards their respective language and literature. The book should have creative and critical work. We have discussed the criteria below that the book must avoid containing.
- The work must not be translated
- The different author’s anthology must not be present in the book
- No compilation or Annotation
- The books should not have the research work made for the college degree or other exam
- A Bhasha Samman Recipient
- Sahitya Akademi Fellow
- The work of an author who is already an Executive Board member of Akademi.Â
2. Any collection of writings or content that has been published before in the form of books or revised editions will not be considered eligible for the award. But, if 75% of the content in the collections is published for the first time in the form of the book, then it may be considered for the award.
3. If the work is incompleted then it can be considered but if only the part included in the book is complete.
4. The submission of the books cannot be done by the authors and publishers directly.
5. The posthumous publication will be considered for the eligibility criteria of the award only if the author has died within the period of five years set for the awards.
6. If the Executive Board finds out that the author has done the canvassing then it will lead to the disqualification of the books.
Selection of the Sahitya Akademi Award 2020 Winner
The List of Sahitya Akademi Award Winners is prepared based on the jury recommendation that is put forward in front of the Executive Board for the purpose of approval and announcement of the result. The jury members’ names and books that are shortlisted in the final selection stage shall be made public along with the declaration of the Award
