Answers :

1) Answer: D

Option A is not correct because there is no reference to a concrete possibility in the passage and moreover the given statement itself is not making any co-relation altogether. Therefore it can be eliminated from consideration.
Option B is not correct because of the same reason. The passage has nothing to do with “investigating the origin of novel corona virus”. It is mainly about the `preliminary studies’ by the government now and then. The two sides have been presented in the given passage.
Option C is not correct since it is not inferred from the passage. Nowhere is it mentioned that the government is unable to give response to “an intermediary host species”. It cannot be considered as the correct choice.
Option D is correct since it is capturing the situation pretty well. It is correct that the situations have changed completely and that is why now, the governments have to worry about “transmission through the trade of frozen products” also. In the past, they had to worry only about Wuhan and in cases of “transmission of the disease only in China”, the government used to feel contained.

Therefore, option D is the correct answer choice to this question.

2) Answer: C

The given passage first gives us a ‘hypothesis’ and after that the same is to be established by the author by giving a study and investigation into an example. This is mere explanation of the given theory because with this example, it becomes easier to understand any kind of theory.
Among the given options, only option C would be the correct choice since other options are irrelevant in the context of the given passage. The passage can be said to be written in an explanatory style since the first part is a hypothesis and the next part is the example of that. The explanation may be best given if you present a proper picture of its application in the real life.

Therefore, option C is the correct answer choice to this question.

3) Answer: E

According to the given passage, it is clear that Embarek “Peter Karim Ben Embarek is a Danish scientist and Programme Manager at World Health Organization specialising in food safety and zoonoses”. It may be said that he is still holding the post of responsibility for himself.
Among the given options, none of the words will be able to say anything regarding the character of Peter Karim Ben Embarek as a human being since autocratic refers to somebody who has no consideration of other’s views or opinions. Other options are also out of context here.

Therefore, option E is the correct answer choice to this question.

4) Answer: A

It is clear from the above passage that the WHO expert is going to have a very hard time ahead regarding the introduction of the virus into the human population. It is not even certain whether a laboratory incident hypothesis is extremely likely to explain the introduction. It can thus be said that the road ahead for the WHO expert is quite scrupulous; to say the least, in order to make sure that the laboratory incident hypothesis is extremely unlikely, at the end of his statement.
Among the given options, scrupulous refers to very concerned to avoid doing wrong and that is why it is the correct choice whereas scurrilous refers to vulgar and opprobrious refers to abusive / hateful and restrained refers to unemotional. Therefore none of the other options will be able to explain the situation correctly.

Therefore, option A is the correct answer choice to this question.

5) Answer: C

It is clear from the given passage that the author is optimistic regarding the fact that the political crisis prevailing in WHO is going to end soon given the new development installed by the WHO expert ignoring the trust vote results, has decided to. This is a sign of being hopeful about the future of WHO Programme Manager or the expert regarding its understanding on subject.
Among the given options, only option C is the correct choice as it gives the right impression regarding the opinion of the author. All the other options are completely out of context here.

Therefore, option C is the correct answer choice to this question.

6) Answer: B

The original sentence is incorrect.

Reason: There are two errors in the bold phrase.

1st. Instead of ‘their deficiency’, an article ‘the deficiency’ should be used here.

2nd. In the sentence, the writer refers to the subject ‘especial protein’ and not the adjective ‘particular’. Therefore, ‘especial’

should be replaced by ‘particular’ to make it a meaningful sentence.

Therefore, among the given choices option B replaces the bold part most appropriately.

The sentence after replacement becomes:

It was not the age profile or weather conditions, but the deficiency of a particular protein that led to the rapid spread of coronavirus disease.

Therefore, option B is the correct answer choice to this question.

7) Answer: E

The original sentence is absolutely correct and needs no correction.

Therefore, option E is the correct answer choice to this question.

8) Answer: D

The original sentence is incorrect.

Reason:

1st. As we can observe that the sentence is made in present tense, usage of the preposition ‘on’ is erroneous here. Instead of ‘on’, ‘in’ (because the meaning conveyed is `into’ the human body) should be used here.

2nd. ‘person’ means ‘a human being regarded as an individual’ and the word doesn’t make any sense in the context of the sentence. Instead of it, the noun ‘human’ that means ‘characteristic of humankind’ should be used here.

Therefore, among the given choices option D replaces the bold part most appropriately.

The sentence after replacement becomes:

The entry of the Sars-CoV-2 virus in the human body is a two-step procedure.

Therefore, option D is the correct answer choice to this question.

9) Answer: C

The original sentence is incorrect.

Reason:

1st. The phrase ‘epidemic’ and not ‘pandemic’ is used to denote an outbreak of disease that spreads quickly. Therefore, ‘pandemic’ must be replaced by ‘epidemic’ here.

2nd. As the preposition ‘from’ is used in its plural form, it’s clear that the subject has to be plural too. Therefore, the noun ‘disease’ must be replaced by ‘diseases’ here.

Therefore, among the given choices option C replaces the bold part most appropriately.

The sentence after replacement becomes:

As a result of its rapid spread in various countries around the world, WHO issued an announcement of the change in coronavirus status from pandemic to epidemic diseases.

Therefore, option C is the correct answer choice to this question.

10) Answer: C

The original sentence is incorrect.

Reason:

1st. The phrase ‘to invite’ and not ‘onto invite’ is used to denote `approaching or reaching (a particular condition)’.

2nd. As the preposition ‘to invite’ is used in its plural form, it’s clear that the subject has to be plural too. Therefore, ‘Corporation’ must be replaced by ‘Organisation’ here.

Therefore, among the given choices option C replaces the bold part most appropriately.

The sentence after replacement becomes:

China called on the United States on Wednesday to invite the World Health Organisation to investigate origins of the Covid-19.

Therefore, option C is the correct answer choice to this question.
