Answers :

1) Answer: A

The word “Defence Reforms” before the first blank indicates that it is regarding the nature of crisis in National Security Council. In the context of the sentence, the words which are suitable for the first blank are ‘nested’, ‘boarded’ and ‘resided’. Hence options C and E are eliminated.

The second blank is regarding the “painful organizational reforms” of the military. The only word that makes the sentence meaningfully correct is ‘reforms’ indicating that the National Security Council descended into chaos. The words ‘improves’ and ‘changes’ are irrelevant to the context of this sentence. This eliminates options B and D as well.

Therefore, option A is the correct answer choice to this question.

2) Answer: B

In the context of the sentence, the only appropriate combination of words is that of ‘trauma’ and ‘balance’. This makes the sentence meaningfully correct. All other options are either grammatically or contextually incorrect. Therefore, options B, C, D and E are eliminated.

Therefore, option B is the correct answer choice to this question.

3) Answer: C

In the context of the sentence, the only combination of words that lead to a meaningful sentence is ‘ experience’ and ‘credible’.

“The 1962 defeat led to massive militarization” is one of the principles in the information systems of achieving results. The principle of militarization means, the process of forming a military, there must be at least a group of individuals necessary for its completion.

All other options are incorrect either contextually or grammatically. Therefore, options A, B, D and E are eliminated.

Therefore, option C is the correct answer choice to this question.

4) Answer: D

In the context of the sentence, the only appropriate combination of words is that of ‘ manoeuvre’ and  ‘triggered’. This makes the sentence meaningfully correct. All other options are either grammatically or contextually incorrect. Therefore, options A, B, C and E are eliminated.

Therefore, option D is the correct answer choice to this question.

5) Answer: E

The phrase “Such rebalancing” after the first blank indicates that the word describes the type of military movement of the “massive militarization”. In the context of the sentence, the words which are suitable for the first blank are ‘responsibility’, ‘leadership’ and ‘power’. Hence options B and D are eliminated.

“Army Chief” before the second blank and “questions” after it shows that it has to be the opposite of the type of rules faced by the military. The only word that makes the sentence meaningfully correct is ‘responsibility’ which means “fact of having a duty”. The word ‘awaited’ and ‘belated’ are irrelevant to the context of this sentence. This eliminates options A and C as well and remains with the word ‘overdue’.

Therefore, option E is the correct answer choice to this question.

6) Answer: A

The statement states that the “Surging waters on Sunday washed away homes”. It starts with “Surging waters” which implies, move suddenly and powerfully forward or upward, the next statement should be in consonance with the one given.

Statement I:  the rescue operation in the aftermath of the flash floods on Sunday continued on the third day.

The first statement says, rescue operation in the aftermath. This means that although the “Surging waters on Sunday washed away homes” but the “rescue operation in the aftermath continued”. This makes sense and is correct.

Statement II: the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) recovered five more bodies from the Alaknanda river.

Statement II says, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) recovered five more bodies, This also looks consistent but is not correct with the context.

Statement III:  The worst disaster to hit the region in eight years struck the country’s second-highest peak.

The last statement, however, does not match with the original statement. So both the statements II and III are a mismatch with each other rather than agreement.

Therefore, option A is the correct answer choice to this question.

7) Answer: B

The statement states that “on Monday night, 26 bodies were recovered”. It starts with “Officials said earlier” which implies, 26 bodies were recovered and the next statement should be in consonance with the one given.

Statement I: The state police have released a list of 185 missing people.

The first statement says, list of missing people. This means that “on Monday night, 26 bodies were recovered” but the “state police have released a list of 185 missing people”. This makes a contradictory sense and is not correct.

Statement II and III: agree with the original statement and are correct.

Therefore, option B is the correct answer choice to this question.

8) Answer: C

The original statement, which gives us a clue that the second fragment should be a contradiction.

Statement I: He said the major rescue work is still on in the 1.7km long tunnel at the NTPC project site.

This makes sense as it depicts Government no longer indulges only in copycatting, else there would not be so much rescue work in “1.7km long tunnel at the NTPC project site”. This is a correct statement contextually.

Statement II: The statement does not have any meaning and is grammatically incorrect.

Statement III: The SDRF teams are continuously scanning the river and riverside to search bodies for any relief work, needed for them, which is correct. It shows that Government is well concerned to those trapped on the riverside and save as many lives as possible.

Therefore, option C is the correct answer choice to this question.

9) Answer: D

No matter what conveys that whatever action one may take with respect to something, the result would be inadequate/ there would be some issue.

Statement I:  A joint team of ITBP, army, NDRF and SDRF entered the Tapovan tunnel.

No matter how much we mitigate, some amount of climate change is unavoidable and that is why
this statement is correct.

Statement II: 16 firemen are deployed at the site along with 26 personnel of police.

This is also a correct statement as both statements are in agreement with each other contextually.

Statement III: Officials have said that nearly 100 kits of ration have been supplied.

Again, this statement is in contradiction and hence incorrect.

Therefore, option D is the correct answer choice to this question.

10) Answer: E

All the statements agree with the original statement and are correct.

Therefore, option E is the correct answer choice to this question.
