SSC Stenographer Application Form 2021

SSC releases online applications for SSC Stenographer 2021. Candidates can fill the application form by following the below-given steps:

Step 1: SSC Registration

  • Visit the official website of SSC and navigate to click on “Apply”
  • Click on the “Steno C & D” tab and click on the “Apply now” link.
  • Enter the details (name, father’s name, date of birth, gender) to register for the SSC Stenographer.
  • Enter text or captcha in the field provided.
  • The new window to enter the personal, basic, and contact details in the SSC Stenographer Application Form
  • Enter the captcha at the end and click on ‘Submit’
  • You will receive an SMS and an Email stating your registration number and password.

Step 2: Upload Photo and Signature

Candidates have to upload scanned images of their color passport size photograph and signature in described specifications:

SSC Stenographer Vacancy 2021

SSC Stenographer 2021 vacancies will be released along with the notification. In 2021, total number of vacancies announced for the SSC Stenographer Grade C & D exam is 1464, out of which 473 are for Stenographer Grade C and 991 for Stenographer Grade D. 

SSC Stenographer Eligibility 2021

Aspirants of SSC Stenographer 2021 will have to fulfill certain eligibility requirements to successfully fill the application form.

Academic Qualification

  • Candidates must have passed 10+2 or any equivalent exam from a recognized board or university as of January 1, 2021.
  • Candidates who have not acquired the essential qualification as of 01.08.2021 will not be eligible and need not apply

Nationality

A candidate must be either:

  1. A citizen of India, or
  2. A subject of Nepal, or
  3. A subject of Bhutan, or
  4. A Tibetan refugee who sought asylum in India before January 1, 1962.
  5. A person with Indian origins who have transferred from one of the following countries: Myanmar, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, etc.

Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (2), (3), (4), and (5) have to produce a certificate of eligibility at the time of offer of appointment.

A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary may be admitted to the
Examination but the offer of appointment will be given only after the necessary eligibility
the certificate has been issued to him by the Government of India.

Age Limit (as of August 1, 2021)

  • Stenographer Grade-C: 18 to 30 years as of 01.08.2021  i.e. candidates born not before 02-08-1990 and not later than 01-08-2002 are eligible to apply.
  • Stenographer Grade-D: 18 to 27 years as of 01.08.2021 i.e. candidates born not before 02-08-1993 and not later than 01-08-2002 are eligible to apply

SSC Stenographer Reservation 2021

Candidates belonging to the SC/ EWS/ ST/ OBC/ Ex-servicemen/ Physically Disabled categories can claim reservations during SSC Stenographer 2020 Selection Process.

  • Persons with One Arm (OA)/One Leg (OL)/Both Legs (BL)/Blind (B) or Low Vision (LV) disabilities can apply for Grade C as per the guidelines of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
  • While for Grade D post can be filled by candidates suffering from One Arm (OA)/One Leg (OL)/One Arm and Leg (OAL)/Both Legs (BL)/Blind (B) or Low Vision (LV) disabilities.
  • Individuals who have adequate Hearing Impairment (HI) are not eligible for the position of SSC Stenographer.

SSC Stenographer Selection Process:

The board will conduct the selection process based on

(i) Online Computer Based Test(CBT)

(ii) Skill Test

(iii) Document Verification

  • Based on the marks scored in the Computer Based Examination, candidates will be shortlisted, category-wise, to appear in the Skill Test(s) for the post(s) they have applied for.
  • Skill Test is mandatory but qualifying in nature. The Commission will fix the category-wise qualifying standard in the Skill Test for each post. The candidates who qualify from the Skill The test will be considered for final selection on basis of their merit in the Computer Based Examination.
  • Final selection and allocation of Ministries/ Departments will be made on the basis of the
    performance of candidates in the Computer Based Examination and the preference of Posts/ Departments exercised by them at the time of Document Verification.

SSC Stenographer Exam Pattern 2021

  • SSC Stenographer 2021 will be a computer-based exam having multiple-choice questions.
  • The question papers will be set in both English and Hindi (except for the English language section).
  • Each question carries 1 mark and 0.25 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer.

SSC Steno Skill Test:

(i) The candidates who are shortlisted in the Computer Based Examination will be required to appear in the Skill Test for Stenography. The candidates will be given one dictation for 10 minutes in English or Hindi (as opted by the candidates in the online Application Form) at the speed of 100 words per minute (w.p.m) for the post of Stenographer Grade-C and 80 w.p.m. for the post of Stenographer Grade-D. The matter will have to be transcribed on a computer.

(ii) Candidates who opt to take the Stenography Test in Hindi will be required to learn English Stenography and vice versa after their appointment, failing which their probation may not be cleared by appointing departments. Candidates have to work as English/ Hindi stenographers as per the functional requirement of the User Office irrespective of the medium of Skill Test of candidate during the examination.

(iii) The Skill Test will be held at the Commission‟s Regional Offices or at other Centre(s) as may be decided by the Commission.

(iv) Detailed instructions, if any, regarding Skill Test will be provided by the concerned
Regional Offices of the Commission to the candidates called for the Skill Test.

SSC Stenographer 2021 Admit Card/ Hall Ticket

SSC will issue SSC Stenographer Admit Card. They can download the SSC Stenographer Call Letter from the official website of SSC. The steps to download the Admit card are given below:

  • Visit the official website of SSC
  • Follow the link ‘download SSC Stenographer Admit Card 2020’
  • Enter the details asked such as roll number, date of birth, candidate’s name, etc.
  • Post verification of the entered details, click on Submit
  • Download the Admit Card if the information mentioned on it is correct.
  • Print admit card for further necessary application.

SSC Stenographer Admit card is available on the website 2 weeks prior to the date of the exam. There is a different SSC Stenographer Admit card for both written examination and skill test. The discrepancies related to the SSC Stenographer Admit card are entertained at the Regional centers for different states.

Documents Needed Along with the SSC Stenographer Admit Card:

  • In addition to the Admission Certificate, it is mandatory to carry at least two passport size recent colour photographs, Original valid Photo-ID proof having the Date of Birth as printed on the Admission Certificate, such as:

SSC Stenographer Exam Centres 2021

Candidates have to mention the center code along with the preferred choice of SSC Stenographer Exam Center while filling up the application form. 

  • The allocated Exam Center is mentioned on the admit card.
  • Candidates must enter the choice of exam center wisely.
  • Once selected, the commission will not approve any changes to the location of the exam center.

In the case where more than one candidate secures equal aggregate marks in the Computer Based on Examination, the tie will be resolved by applying the following methods one after another:

a. Marks in Part-I (i.e. General Intelligence & Reasoning)

c. Date of birth, with an older candidate, placed higher.

SSC Stenographer Result 2021

SSC Stenographer 2021 Result has a separate declaration for the written test and the skill test. SSC Stenographer Result for written test will be declared in May 2021 (tentatively)

SSC Stenographer Tie Breaker

Candidates might obtain equal aggregate marks in the written test of the SSC Stenographer exam. The tie is resolved by considering the following criteria:

  • Candidate with higher marks in Part I of the written exam is given higher marks if the tie persists then;
  • Candidate’s date of birth is considered i.e. older candidate is preferred first, but if the tie still exists;
  • Alphabetical order of the name of a candidate is the final decisive criteria.

SSC Stenographer Skill Test 2021

Candidates who qualify from the written examination of Stenographer 2021 are shortlisted for the skill test.

  • Dictation will be given to them for 10 minutes in English/Hindi.
  • They are required to type the same on a computer at a speed of 100 w.p.m. to be recruited for the post of a Grade C Stenographer, while for Grade D, he/she must type at a speed of 80 w.p.m.
  • Candidates with Visual Impairment have to transcribe the matter in 75 minutes for English or 100 minutes for Hindi Shorthand if they are applying for Grade D Stenographer.
  • For Grade C, the Visually Handicapped candidates have to transcribe the matter in 75 minutes for English or 95 minutes for the Hindi shorthand test. The skill test for SSC Stenographer will be held at Regional or Sub-Regional Offices or other centers as decided by the Commission. The transcription is evaluated electronically post submission.

Important Instructions for the SSC Steno exam

  • Candidates need to carry Aadhaar Card, Passport, Driving License, PAN Card, Voter’s ID Card along with the admit card.
  • Electronic items like mobile phones, calculators, pagers, etc are not allowed inside the exam centre.
  • Candidates are advised to reach the exam centre one hour early to complete the verification process
  • Candidates will not be allowed to leave the exam hall till the completion of the test.

Procedure to Fill the Stenographer Application Form:

The process of filling online application for the examination consists of two parts:

I. One Time Registration

II. Filling of online Application for the Examination

Part-I (One-Time Registration)

1. Read the instructions given in the Notice of Examination carefully before filling up the online ‘Registration Form’ and „Application Form‟.

2. Before proceeding with One-Time Registration, keep the following information/ documents ready:

a. Mobile Number (to be verified through OTP)
b. Email ID (to be verified through OTP)
c. Aadhaar Number. If the Aadhaar Number is not available, please give one of the following ID Numbers. (You will be required to show the original document at a later stage):
i. Voter ID Card
ii. PAN
iii. Passport
iv. Driving License
v. School/ College ID
vi. Employer ID (Govt./ PSU/ Private)
d. Information about the Board, Roll Number, and Year of Passing the Matriculation (10th) Examination.
e. Disability Certificate Number, if you are a person with a benchmark disability.

3. For One-Time Registration, click on the “Register Now‟ link provided in the “Login‟ section on the official site.

4. One-Time Registration process requires filling up of the following information:

a. Basic details
b. Additional and contact details
c. Declaration.

5. For filling up the ‘One-Time Registration Form’, please follow the following steps:

a. Few critical details (e.g. Aadhaar Number, name, father‟s name, mother‟s name, date of birth, etc) are required to be entered twice, in the relevant columns of the Registration Form to avoid any inadvertent mistakes in filling up of the form. If there is the mismatch between the original and verify data columns, it will not be accepted and an indication to this effect will be given in the red text.

b. S No-1, provide information about Aadhaar Number/ Identity Card and its Number. Anyone of these Numbers is required to be given.

c. S No-2: Fill your name exactly as given in the Matriculation (10th Class) Certificate. In case, you have made any changes in your name after matriculation, indicate the same at S No-2c and 2d.

d. S No-3: Fill your father‟s name exactly as given in Matriculation (10th Class) Certificate.

e. S No-4: Fill your mother‟s name exactly as given in Matriculation (10th Class) Certificate.

f. S No-5: Fill your date of birth exactly as given in Matriculation (10th Class) Certificate.

g. S No-6: Matriculation (10th Class) Examination Details which include:
i. Name of Education Board
ii. Roll Number
iii. Year of passing

h. S No-7: Gender

i. S No-8: Level of Educational Qualification (highest).

j. S No-9: Your Mobile Number. This must be a working mobile number as it will be verified through „One Time Password‟ (OTP). It may be noted that any information which the Commission may like to communicate with you, will be sent on this mobile number only. Your mobile number will also be used for retrieval of a password if required.

k. S No-10: Your Email ID. This must be a working Email ID as it will be verified through OTP. It may also be noted that any information which the Commission may like to communicate with you, will be sent on this Email ID only. Your Email ID will also be used for retrieval of password/ Registration Number if required.

l. Provide detail of State/ UT of your Permanent Address.

m. When the Basic Details provided at S No-1 to 10 are saved, you will be required to confirm your mobile number and email ID. On confirmation, your data will be saved and your Registration Number will be displayed on the screen. Your Registration Number and Password will be provided to you on your mobile number and Email ID.

n. You have to complete the Registration Process within 14 days failing which your Registration Details saved so far will be deleted.

o. Login using your Registration Number as username and auto-generated password provided to you on your mobile and email. Change your password, when prompted on the first login.

p. After successful password change, you need to log in again using your Registration Number and changed password.

q. On successful login, information about the „Basic Details‟ so far filled by you will be displayed. You may edit it, if required or proceed further by clicking on the “Next‟ button at the bottom to complete your one-time registration.

r. S No-11: Provide information about your Category.

t. S No-13: Provide information about visible Identification Mark. You may be required to show the above Identification Mark at various stages of examination.

u. S No-14: Provide information about benchmark disabilities, if any. If you are suffering from any specific benchmark disability identified suitable for government jobs, then provide Disability Certification Number.

v. S No: 15 to 18: Provide information about your Permanent and Present Address. Save the data and proceed further to the last part of the Registration Process.

w. Save the information provided. Take a draft printout and review the information filled in the Registration Form carefully, before „Final Submit‟.

x. Read the „Declaration‟ carefully, if you agree with the declaration, click „I Agree‟.

y. Upon clicking „Final Submit‟ different OTPs will be sent on your mobile number and Email ID. You need to enter one of the two OTPs at designated fields to complete the Registration Process.

z. After submission of Basic information, if the registration process is not completed within 14 days, your data will be deleted from the system.

6. After completion of the registration process, „Basic Details‟ can be changed only twice.
Therefore be extremely cautious while making one-time registration.

7. You have advised that name, father’s name, mother’s name, date of birth, matriculation examination datils should be filled exactly as recorded in the matriculation certificate. Your candidature may get canceled in case of incorrect/wrong information.

A. For General/ OBC/ EWS candidates, the application fee is Rs 100. The application fee is exempted for SC/ ST/ PwD/ Ex-servicemen and Female candidates. 

Q. When the admit card is released?

A. The admit card is released two weeks before the exam. The admit card will be available online on the official website. Candidates can download SSC Stenographer 2021 admit card by logging with the required credentials. 

Q. Can I change the Stenographer exam centres?

A. The exam centres cannot be changed after the final submission of the application form. 

Q. What is the exam pattern of SSC Steno Group C & D?

A. The computer-based test as per official notification comprises three sections: General English and Intelligence, General Awareness and English Language and Comprehension. The test paper comprises 200 objective type questions which candidates need to complete within 2 hours. The test carries a total of 200 marks. 

Q. Are there any negative marks in the exam?

A. Yes, there are negative marks in the exam. For each wrong answer, 0.25 marks will be deducted. 

Q. What is the standard of the syllabus?

A. The syllabus comprises the topics that candidates have studied in their class 10 and 12 standards. 

Q. Is there any interview for the SSC Stenographer exam?

A. Candidates qualifying the computer-based test are called for the skill test in stenography. Those who qualify the skill test are called for document verification.
