  1. Lynch (verb) — बिना मुकदमे मार डालना

Definition: to kill (someone) for an alleged offence without a legal trial, especially by hanging.

Synonyms: hang, hang by the neck; execute, put to death, kill, murder

Antonyms: create, bear, tolerate

Usage: Six policemen were lynched by angry crowds.

 

  1. Vigilante (noun) – सतर्कता

Definition: a member of a self-appointed group of citizens who undertake law enforcement in their community without legal authority, typically because the legal agencies are thought to be inadequate

Synonyms: avenger, castigator, chastiser, nemesis, punisher

Antonyms: ransomer, redeemer, vindicator.

Usage: He was a moral vigilante and wanted to bring justice to those who erred.

 

  1. Disquiet (noun) – परेशानी या बेचैनी

Definition: a feeling of worry or unease.

Synonyms: unease, uneasiness, worry, anxiety, anxiousness, distress, concern

Antonyms: calm, at ease, peaceful

Usage: There was public disquiet about the animal testing.

 

  1. Indictment (noun/verb) – अभियोग

Definition: a formal charge or accusation of a serious crime.

Synonyms: charge, accusation, arraignment, citation, summons

Antonyms: acquittal, released, cleared (of charges)

Usage: They were indicted for conspiracy.

 

  1. Preponderance (noun) – प्रमुखता

Defiition: to outweigh in importance, to overburden

Synonyms: predominance, prevalence, overburden, important, special

Antonyms: ordinary, common, equal, unimportant

Usage: There is an implicit indictment of the preponderant mood of the times when it says that “hate crimes as a product of intolerance, ideological dominance and prejudice ought not to be tolerated”.

 

  1. Onus (noun) – जिम्मेदारी

Definition: something that is one’s duty or responsibility.

Synonyms: burden, responsibility, liability, obligation, duty, weight, load, charge, mantle, encumbrance

Antonyms: blamelessness, unaccountable, irresponsibility

Usage: The onus is on you to show that you have suffered loss

 

  1. Credible (adjective) — विश्वसनीय

Definition: able to be believed; convincing

Synonyms: acceptable, trustworthy, reliable, dependable, sure, good, valid

Antonyms: unacceptable, untrustworthy, unreliable, invalid

Usage: People found his story credible and decided to support him.

 

  1. Institutionalise (verb) – संस्थागत करना

Definition: establish (something, typically a practice or activity) as a convention or norm in an organization or culture.

Synonyms: regulate, order, systemize, make official, norm

Antonyms: disorder, disorganized, unusual, out of ordinary

Usage: He institutionalized the practice of collaborative research on a grand scale

 

  1. Stifle (verb) — रोकना

Definition: to suffocate or restrain (an emotion)

Synonyms: suppress, smother, restrain, keep back, hold back, hold in, fight back, choke back, gulp back, withhold

Antonyms: let out, release, emit, disclose, give away

Usage: Those in the streets during the attacks were stifled by the fumes.

 

  1. Profess (verb) – दावा करना

Definition: claim or affirm one’s faith or feeling

Synonyms: declare, announce, proclaim, assert, state, affirm, avow, maintain, protest, aver, vow

Antonyms: conceal, deny, disavow, hide, renounce
