  1. Punitive (adjective) — दंडात्मक

Definition: inflicting or intended as punishment

Synonyms: penal, disciplinary, corrective, correctional, retributive

 Antonyms: unpunished, let off, released, not charged

Usage: He called for punitive measures against the Eastern bloc

 

  1. Relent (verb) – परित्याग करना

Definition: abandon or mitigate

Synonyms: change one’s mind, do a U-turn, back-pedal, back down, give way, give in

Antonyms: strengthen, worsen, harden, build up

Usage: she was going to refuse his request, but relented

 

  1. Reconcile (verb) — मेल-मिलाप कराना

Definition: restore friendly relations between.

Synonyms: friendly, come to agreement, end dispute, clear discord

Antonyms: argue, fight, disagree, dispute, discord

Usage: the king and the archbishop were publicly reconciled

 

  1. Contingent (adjective) — आकस्मिक

Definition: subject to chance, dependent on.

Synonyms: chance, accidental, fortuitous, possible, unforeseen, unforeseeable, unexpected

Antonyms: intended, intentional, expected, planned

Usage: his fees were contingent on the success of his search

 

  1. Prudent (adjective) – विवेकी

Definition: acting with or showing care and thought for the future.

Synonyms: wise, well judged, judicious, sagacious, sage, shrewd, advisable, well advised, politic

Antonyms: imprudent, dumb, unintelligent, ill-advised, not advisable

Usage: no prudent money manager would authorize a loan without first knowing its purpose

 

  1. Formative (adjective) — निर्माणात्मक

Definition: serving to form something, especially having a profound influence on a person’s development.

Synonyms: developmental, developing, growing, mouldable, malleable, impressionable

Antonyms: constant, stubborn, not impressionable, adult

Usage: Developmental delays are to be corrected in the formative years of a child’s growth to help them overcome it.

 

  1. Pioneer (noun) — प्रथम अन्वेषक

Definition: a person who is the first to do, use or explore something

Synonyms: develop, introduce, evolve, start, begin, launch, instigate, initiate, put in place, take the initiative in

Antonyms: follower, one of many, repeat, continue

Usage: the technique was pioneered by a Swiss doctor in the 1930s

 

  1. Detention (noun) — नजरबंदी

Definition: the action of detaining someone or the state of being detained in official custody/ punishment of being kept in school after working hours.

Synonyms: custody, imprisonment, confinement, incarceration, internment, captivity, restraint

Antonyms: free, not detained, not restrained, not confined, given freedom, released

Usage: the fifteen people arrested were still in police detention

 

  1. Ensure (verb) — सुनिश्चित करना

Definition: make certain that (something) will occur or be the case.

Synonyms: safeguard, protect, guard, shield, shelter, fortify, make invulnerable

Antonyms: uncertain, vulnerable, unprotected, unsafe

Usage: The legislation is to ensure equal opportunities to all citizens.

 

  1. Tinker (verb) — सुधार करने की कोशिश करना

 Definition: attempt to repair or improve something in a casual or desultory way.

 Synonyms: try to mend/improve, work amateurishly on, fiddle with, play (about/around) with, toy with, trifle with, dally with 

Antonyms: leave alone, not fiddle with, not interfere, break, dismantle

Usage: He spent hours tinkering with the air conditioning system trying to get it to work again.
