1) fitful (verb) –

Meaning: Irregular and unsteady, characterized by fits: Not regular, consistent, or equal

Synonyms: broken, spasmodic, intermittent, sporadic, disturbed, Not regular, consistent, or equal

Antonyms: constant, regular, steady

Usage : Rahul  Gandhi’s  fitful  detours  into politics continue to excite his opponents  and  supporters

 

2) obtuse (verb) –

Meaning: Annoyingly insensitive or slow to understand; Insensitive to criticism or insults

Synonyms: stupid, dull, slow, dense insensitive, tough, unfeeling,

Antonyms: bright, clever, astute, keen, pronged

Usage: An expert argument that the Gandhi‘s are the sole reason for the absence of a viable non BJP politics is obtuse.

Usage: What  are  those who cannot walk over a withered dynasty worth in taking on the BJP and its  formidable  leader  Narendra  Modi

 

5) preordained  (verb) –

Meaning: Determined in advance; Involving divine foresight or providence

Synonyms: fated, predetermined, destined, doomed, providential, divine

Antonyms: avoidable, preventable, evadable, evitable

Usage: An aspiring re­bel trapped in the body and privilege of  a  preordained  dynast,  Mr.  Gandhi’s  infectious  confusions  have  disoriented  his  opponents,  supporters and observers alike

 

6) strident (verb) –

Meaning: Loud and harsh; Showing strong feeling; forceful, passionate, or intense; Interfering or meddling in the affairs of others

Synonyms: vehement, ardent, fervent, intense, raucous, discordant, screeching obtrusive, officious, presumptuous

Antonyms: soft, dulcet, gentle harmonious, quiet, inaudible

Usage:  If  Mr.  Modi  remains  as  or  more  popular  than  he was  in  2014,  the  only  explanation could be the strident cultural agenda that  he  has  delivered  on

 

7) laurels (adj) –

Meaning: Public acknowledgment or admiration; Positive outcome from the achievement of one’s goals

Synonyms: praise, acclaim, accolades, awards, success, prosperity, affluence

Antonyms: blame, criticism, disapproval, misfortune, sadness

Usage: He bears the cross for all the sins of his forebears but gets no laurels for their contributions.

 

8) whining (verb) –

Meaning: having or showing an irritable disposition; Disposed to complaining, especially in a petulant or whining manner; a long, high-pitched unpleasant sound: Complaining excessively

Synonyms: complaining, grouchy, grumbling, moaning

Antonyms: friendly, amiable, kind, agreeable

Usage: The challenge to his authority within the party can be tackled  only  through  attaining that strength, not by whining about the  old  guard.

 

7) emaciation (verb) –

Meaning: The act of making very lean

Synonyms: attenuation, thinness, gauntness, haggardness

Antonyms: obesity, plumpness, grossness, fleshiness

Usage: as the Gandhis are res­ponsible for the emaciation of opposition politics in India
