UGC NET Syllabus – The University Grants Commission conducts UGC Net Exam twice in a year. The candidates with the Post graduation qualification can apply for the UGC Net Examination. This UGC NET Examination is a National level examination for recruiting Asst Professor and Junior Research Fellow for the Universities. The recruitment is based on the written examination on Paper 1 & 2.
Paper 1 examination is primarily designed to test reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness of the candidate. And Paper 2 is completely based on the Subject for which candidate has applied for. The exam pattern and UGC NET Syllabus for both exams are given below. The UGC NET Exam Syllabus Paper 1 and 2 helps the candidates to focus on the required from the vast topics.
UGC NET Exam Syllabus 2018
Exam Pattern:

- UGC Net Exams conducted twice in a year.
- The recruitment process is based on Paper 1 & 2.
- Candidates applied for the examination has to choose compulsorily 4 cities for the exam center.
- Objective type questions for both UGC NET Paper 1 and 2.
- Multiple-choice questions and each carries 2 marks.
- There is no negative marking for the wrong answers.
- It is compulsory to attendant all the questions.
- The questions are asked in the bilingual language (English & Hindi) .
- UGC Net Exam Paper 1, shift 1 begins at 9.30 AM and the Paper 2 will be conducted continuously after half an hour.
- The candidates are not allowed to exit the examination hall after the completion of UGC Net Paper 1.
UGC NET Syllabus Paper 1
The questions will be generic in nature, intending to assess the teaching/research aptitude of the candidate. It will primarily be designed to test reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness of the candidate.
Unit I – Teaching Aptitude
Teaching : Nature, objectives, characteristics and basic requirements; Learner’s characteristics; Factors affecting teaching; Methods of teaching; Teaching aids; Evaluation systems.
Unit II – Research Aptitude
Research : Meaning, characteristics and types; Steps of research; Methods of research; Research Ethics; Paper, article, workshop, seminar, conference and symposium; Thesis writing: its characteristics and format.
Unit III – Reading Comprehension
A passage to be set with questions to be answered.
Unit IV – Communication
Communication : Nature, characteristics, types, barriers and effective classroom communication.
Unit V – Reasoning (Including Mathematical)
Number series; letter series; codes; > Relationships; classification.
Unit VI – Logical Reasoning
Understanding the structure of arguments; Evaluating and distinguishing deductive and inductive reasoning; Verbal analogies : Word analogy — Applied analogy; Verbal classification.
Reasoning Logical Diagrams : Simple diagrammatic relationship, multi diagrammatic relationship;
Venn diagram; Analytical Reasoning.
Unit VII – Data Interpretation
Sources, acquisition and interpretation of datag. ‘P Quantitative and qualitative data; > Graphical representation and mapping of data.
Unit VIII – Information and Communicating Technology (ICT)
ICT : meaning, advantages, disadvantages and uses; > General abbreviations and terminology; > Basics of internet and e-mailing.
Unit IX – People and Environment
People and environment interaction;
Sources of pollution;
Pollutants and their impact on human life, exploitation of natural and energy
resources;
Natural hazards and mitigation.
Unit X – Higher Education System : Governance Polity And Administration;
Structure of the institutions for higher learning and research in India; formal and distance education; professional/technical and general education; value education: governance, polity and administration; concept, institutions and their interactions.
UGC NET Syllabus 2018 Paper 2
UGC NET Exam Syllabus Paper 2 is consists of 100 objective type questions. The questions are based on the subject chosen by the candidates. The time duration for the examination is 2 hours.
