The International Hydrographic Organization started this World Hydrography Day 2021 Theme as an annual celebration to raise awareness about the work of hydrographers and provide education about the branch of hydrography and the importance it holds in the lives of individuals. World Hydrography Day- History

• In the year 1921, the International Hydrographic Bureau was established with the intention to provide a mechanism for consultation between governments on matters including safe navigation, technical standards, and the protection of the marine environment.
• The name was changed to International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) in the year 1970.
• In 2005, the United Nations General Assembly passed the resolution of celebrating World Hydrography Day on 21st June by the International Hydrographic Organization.
• The global celebration of World Hydrography Day began in the year 2006.
• The day recognizes the work of hydrographers and spreads awareness about the important roles of hydrography in individual lives.
